With consoles the games develop and get better to use the systems hardware.

With PCs the hardware is eventually upgraded to run the games that require faster processors, better video cards, etc.

  4. Waiting for just the motherboard now. on Gamers, Upgrade your Systems · · Score: 1

Ive finally decided to upgrade my system after about 3 years.
Back in 2000 I got one of the first P3 500Mhz processors released. My motherboard is an ABIT BX6 ver 2.0 with a Hercules 64MB video card and 512MB ram. I had to update the BIOS to allow me to upgrade the speed to P3 700 and thats the highest it will go(not overclocked.)

I finally ordered a Gigabyte GA-8INXP and it will be arriving sometime next week. Ive been trying to get this motherboard for a full month now. I think the company shortshipped it not anticipating that it would be that popular.

I have 512MB DDR 266 memory, an ATI 9700 agp 8X, and a 2.53 Ghz processor waiting to go into it. I cant wait until that thing gets here. Hopefully it wont be a dud.

  5. Timeline by Michael Crichton on Improvements in Teleportation · · Score: 2, Interesting

This talk of teleportation reminds me of Timeline. Its totally fictional but pretty interesting.

    Spoilers....

This company stumbles onto time travel through experiments in teleportation. They attempt to send some drones through a teleportation device and some do not come through on the receiving end. They discover the drone was sent to another dimension. They then strap a camera to one of them and find out its been sent to another time(by aiming the camera towards the sky and checking out the star positions.) the story unfolds as an adventure where someone wanders to far from a time travel device and his friends go back to rescue him.

They are making a movie for this also and it comes out later this spring. Hopefully it will stay pretty close to the book.

  6. My take on Taken on Spielberg's Taken · · Score: 2, Interesting

I watched both the 9-11 and 11-1am showing and I thought it was pretty interesting. I have always been intrigued and felt a sense of strangeness while watching it. Especially scenes like the plane going down and the lights engulfing it.

One scene that stood out was when the woman was walking through the ship wreckage and discovers the alien metal. I was waiting for something to either jump out and attack her or she was going to discover a body. Instead we see her walk off and the camera zooms in on the tree revealing an alien. That was eerie.

The rest of the episode was brief flashbacks and intricate character developement. I also noticed they tried to keep with the Area 51 crash and weather balloon coverup, these were blended into the story quite well. Dont forget the bits with the alien drivebys and cars/electrical equipment shutting off.

I will be tuning in the check out more....

I bought a system with Windows 98 loaded on it. When I got to the counter to pay for it I told the lady I didnt want the Windows 98 CD and she knocked 80 bucks off the price of the system. Was she supposed to do that, was the machine supposed to be wiped(which I did when I got home), or was she supposed to wipe the harddrive before I left the store??

  12. Interesting blend on Square and Disney Team Up for Kingdom Hearts · · Score: 1

Some might think a game that is 50% Squaresoft/50% Disney might be the same thing as a game that is 50% Capcom/50% Barney but I dont think it will be too bad. Ive been curiously watching the Gia over the past few months and the screenshots look somewhat interesting. I think the two companies are trying to draw in the younger crowd to play more RPGs. I think they will succeed with the extremely crisp graphics and similar battle system to the Final Fantasy series. Im used to such games Final Fantasy, Persona, and Dragon Warrior and this will be a unique addition to my collection of games. I dont mind Disney that much just as long as Pokemon doesnt make a cameo in the game somewhere. :)

  13. Replying to SPAM on Spam Increases Make Things Tough For Companies · · Score: 1

I dont know if this is true or not. When I get some spam email at the bottom is has a button that says something like "click to remove". It takes you to a webpage to enter your email address and click a REMOVE button. I heard a rumor that if you do that your email address gets sold and/or forwarded to other spammers. I guess what I'm trying to say is should one just ignore these spam emails or is it safe to keep doing the "click to remove" thing??

I used to read the anti-scientology newsgroups from time to time. Now and then someone claiming they were a scientologist would come in and discuss Xenu or auditing. Not too many were there though. I think the "true" scientologists are told to stay quiet about their religion. Think about it, if someone went on there that was a supporter and started talking about Xenu and OT levels, people inside the religion might start giving them problems....

  16. Quite Scary on Resident Evil · · Score: 0

I goto the movies many times(my roommate is the manager) and I noticed during RE the volume was turned up really loud. That plus creatures and zombies jumping out will make anyone jump out of their seat. I remember the train scenes from the game Resident Evil 2. The way the movie concluded it made way for a pretty interesting sequal(if this movie does good enough.)

I dont feel like registering at NY Times, but lets see, the harddrive, memory, battery, cd drive, floppy drive, and motherboard can all be removed. Im thinking maybe a tracking device can be placed behind the screen or somewhere underneath the keyboard. Maybe it can be burned in behind the power on switch and if it gets stolen and a thief tries to mess with it it screws the laptop up and makes it useless.

They will need actors/actresses that have strong voices so they can vocalize the "Kkkkk, kkkkkk, grrrrrr, Ahhhhhaaaa!!!!!!"

  22. My prediction on ESR Says as PCs Get Cheaper, Windows Will Die · · Score: 0

I predict that as computers get cheaper and cheaper prices of Windows licensing will increase to take up the slack.
This time next year you have a system that costs 899.99. The PC itself cost 599.99 but the license for the Windows OS will be 399.99. :(

  23. Games with endings on 40th Anniversary of Video Games · · Score: 1

One of the main events IMO was when games like Zelda, Dragon Warrior, and Final Fantasy came out. Most of the games before these were mainly score breakers. You played and played for hours to see if you could get the highest score or get to the last level. Games like Final Fantasy added a broad story element to the game and when you beat the game it finished the story. Ahhh thank god for RPGS. :)

  24. Radio stations on RIAA Almost Down To Pre-Napster Revenues · · Score: 0

What is up with them anyway??? Slipknot sold over 500,000 copies of their debut CD with out crappy MTV and radio play. The radio stations around here are really strange. For instance, Static-X has a song called "Bled for Days." This one station always plays their guitar riff in the background while talking to each other. So I call them up one day and ask them to play that very song and the DJ turns into a wuss and starts whining about how his Program Director will yell at him for playing it. I dont listen to radio as much as I used to, I basically have about 30 CDs in my car that I listen to because the radio stations overplay Nirvana, Janes Addiction, Green Day, and Pearl Jam.

I wonder what XM(Satellite Radio with no commercials) is like...300 bucks for the car unit and 10 bucks a month for a subscription.

  25. Players make the game(pretty much) on The Challenges of Making a Multiplayer Game · · Score: 0

I can remember when Ultima Online was in Beta. Richard Garriot had it geared toward the mature 18+ Roleplaying community. He had no idea what would happen only a few months after the game was released. People who had no previous roleplaying/AD&D experience started playing the game and started player killing other players. The development team left it in but after a few more months it got out of control. Eventually they ended up splitting the servers so people had a choice for player vs. player.
