I don't think so. Win98 is almost as slow as RH 7.3 with KDE3 on my 64MB box. And it's much flakier than RH. Of course, if you want speed, Slackware with Xfce kicks all their @$$es.
LOL! No, just mentioning that the distros that Joe Winpack is exposed to are too bloated. The fact that you can get certain distros on old hardware is irrelevant.
Unfortunately, the consumer distros ARE getting bloated. That means that Joe Winpack, after hearing that Linux will work on his obsolete hardware, will buy RH 8.0 at the local CompUsa, install it, and gripe because it's slower than Doze! He probably hasn't even heard of Debian or Slackware, let alone LFS.
The reason I choose Slackware over Debian is that it's easier to understand, and harder to break. Automated apt-get tools are a great convienence when they work right, but a system-breaker when they don't. If I break something with Slackware, it's pretty clear what I did, and much easier to undo it.
Slackware's package management is less sophisticated than RH or Debian, but it works! I've borked my Debian system more than once. I didn't do much fiddling with RH because it's known to break easily. I fiddle with Slackware all the time and I've never broken it. I DID break X-Windows once, but I was able to fix it without reinstalling the SOB.
How resource intensive is it? I remember reading on the original Sourceror site about needing a gig of RAM + swap, and 8G hard drive. Is that true for Lunar? If so, I'm SOL on my system.
Yes, but they'd only have to pay the outrageous price once. This way, the drug companies can charge semi-outrageous prices that each patient has to pay the rest of his life!
IMO, much of Debian's "preferrence" for Gnome is a question of bad timing (from KDE's view). IIRC, QT went GPL too late to get into 2.2 (Potato), which kept KDE out of Debian stable for years. And KDE 3 missed Woody's release, so Debian's KDE is old.
Frankly, I don't recommend either one on low-end machines. Saying Gnome is faster than KDE is like saying a snail is faster than a slug. Xfce is much faster than either of the Big 2 desktops.
Teachers are teaching the students "bossspeak" When I talk/write to the boss, I have to use "bossspeak". The boss does NOT need to learn "geekspeak"! If I cannot communicate in his language, I can be replaced with someone who will!
It's like people who use a lot of slang. All of the heavy-slang users I've ever hung out with know it's slang they're using, and can stop when the situation warrants.
I agree. I've often commented on something being "kewl" on several message boards. But I've never used "kewl" in a report to my boss. Actually, I don't think I've ever used "cool" unless I was talking about the weather, but U know what I mean.

Didn't they have anything better to do than stare at Uranus?
That pronunciation really pisses me off!
But what if BitMover changes its mind and decides CVS IS competition?

I find it interesting that insurance companies - said by some to be the devil - don't cover acts of God!
I'm sure RH 7.2 will still be supported. Don't know about 6.2.
Is there life on Uranus?

NOOOO!!!
Actually, the main question IS frequently asked. "Why the !@#$% should I call the ^&*( thing GNU?"
No, there aren't!
Batman's not real? I don't believe it! Next you'll be telling me Superman's not real!
Why should you be loyal to the company, when said company will cut you loose at the first sign of bigger profits? You're right, it DOES cut both ways.
Yeah, but you see, Bush was so incompatent that just by running for president, he crashed the economy!

ROTFL! I blew Coke out my nose reading that!
