    It's called medical power of attorney, and you do not need to be married to do this.

    True, but it helps if there's someone you trust to do that.

    Hell, that's about the same as a CD rate, so why lock your money away in one?

  9. Many elderly people have health problems, that would interfere with "doing something". They also may have limited money, which also makes it harder to "do something".

    Considering the fact that she won more than 50% of the vote, I think it's a stretch to call her "unelectable." She just had the wrong 50%.

    Hilary was definitely unelectable. But, since Trump was also unelectable, it was the classic unstoppable force vs immovable object. Someone had to get in.

    I don't know much about my dad's side of the family, but though my maternal grandparents died in their 70s, one of my aunts lived to 89, the other got just short of the century mark (97). My mom's still going strong at 82.

    No, it's not. 1,000 poor people can buy 1,000 1 dollar burgers. One rich person might have more money than the 1,000 combined, but he's not going to buy 1,000 burgers.

  15. The only "understanding" I got from my foreign languages in HS was just how terrible foreign language learning is! Though, TBF, my own experience was unusually bad, even by American HS foreign language standards.

    Unless I misunderstand how it works in the US, if both Trump and Pence were removed from office this very moment the presidency would fall to the president pro tempore of the senate, who is currently Senator Orrin Hatch (A Republican).

    I know nothing of his politics or whether he'd be for or against h1b reform though.

    Actually, it would go to Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan. President Pro-Tempre (not sure about spelling) of the Senate is #4.

    Just because you can't name an ad doesn't mean it hasn't affected you. Recognition is many times more powerful than recall. Advertisers know that. That Domino's ad that started playing as you got up to take a crap still -reminded- you that Domino's exists and it's an easy option for getting pizza when you want it right away. The next time you think pizza, you may be more likely to think Domino's. The next time you see a Domino's delivery car or pass a Domino's shop, the same neural pathways in your brain are getting reinforced, that were reinforced by each ad you -think- you ignored.

    Maybe you're the special snowflake that really doesn't end up buying things due to advertiser influence. Or perhaps you're just a cheap bastard like I am and you stick with cheap crap instead of name brands. But advertising works on most people more than they admit -or- realize.

    It's possible that I'll subconsciously remember Domino's when I want pizza. Or, I might associate it with taking a crap! It could go either way.

    Advertising can make the difference where I buy the things I do need.

    Me too, but not always a positive difference. I've also decided against places due to bad ads.

    Often, ignoring is the best case for them. There are several companies that I won't do business with because their ads make me barf.

    The last time I tried making a phone call in my car, it didn't understand half of what I was trying to say. Luckily, I was still in the driveway, because if I'd been driving, I probably would have crashed into a tree while yelling at my !@#$ phone. For me, at least, it's fine for receiving calls, but terrible at making them.

    I couldn't even watch at set time when I DIDN'T have a DVR. I recorded on my VCR like crazy in the 90s when I was too busy to watch many evenings.

    It is good to have a bunch of shows on Netflix right now during the winter break when regular TV is even crappier than usual.
