what? I'll agree that guy's an idiot but not for thinking a mini would play PSX games.
I used to play PSX games on a ~500mhz P3 back in the day. I'm not sure what options are available for the mac as far PSX emulators but assuming that one exists I'd guess the mini would play them fine.
I have to say that I suck at both but I've read and played enough DoA to know that there is more to the fighting system than just "counters" and "holds". If you are actually interested learning a little of what is involved in DoA, I'm sure there in a wealth of info in the forums over at http://www.doacentral.com.
I haven't been playing much doa4 the last month, so I'm not sure what they've figured out but last I checked they did have some frame data that they grabbed out of the japanese guide. Unfortunately they left that info out of the US strategy guide.
Its not just EA Sports game, NBA 2k6 is pretty easy to max out points on too. Seriously, turn the game time to max and play through one game, if you pay attention to what you need to do and make a point of getting in those extra assists, rebounds and 3-pointers then its pretty easy to get all achievements with only playing one game.
Most games I've played have been pretty good about making a good portion of the achievements a little hard to get but the sports games seem to lack any imagination.
But didn't KOTOR let you save mid fight? IIRC, after the 2nd or 3rd time fighting him I managed to remember to save at the beginning of the battle, not a huge deal and it certainly didn't ruin a great game.
Naw, multi disc games isn't the problem. We still need to get up to change games. What we need is someone to wise up and make a game machine with built in 300 disc changer.
Not only are the vast number of games not interesting but, as G4 showed, gamers don't watch TV, they play games. It might be interesting to see what tactics some team might use on a game of Assault on Zanzibar but can 4 2 minute rounds really capture attention the same way a Basketball game does?
Also, remember that a great deal of sports are athlete/star driven. Sure I'm from Detroit and a Pistons fan but I also like most of the players and admire their physical ability to play the game. Is there anything that would really make one player's style stand out from another's to someone not already intimately familiar with a game? Could a gamer really be a star to non-gamers?
Actually in this country its nothing like that. See, in the USA the legislature makes the laws, not the executive branch, which the president is part of. So at no point is what the US President says "the law".
Did you fail your high school civics class or are you just conveniently forgetting it so you can make some outlandish comparisons? Oh yeah, cause we all know taking the leash off the NSA is the same thing as indiscriminately killing your own citizens.
Actually they do this to an extent. Most video game hardware is sold at a loss for a long period of time. I would assume the difference is the cost of making an xbox 360 and a cable box.
Also you have to remember that unlike a satelite tv service, video game hardware makers aren't the exclusive content providers. Sure MS makes some games but 3rd parties like EA and Ubi also make games and those games probably only give MS $5-10 a piece. Moreover there is no guarantee as to how many games someone will buy, when you get that free satelite hardware dtv or dish knows you'll be a customer for at least a year or whatever the contract was for.
They are basically 2 completely different industries and in the end the real reason MS charges for the xbox is that they can.
Oh yeah, I remember that. Mine usually worked fine upside down but occasionally my buddy needed to grab a bag of frozen pees and set that on the bottom while it was turned upside down. On warmer days I think he would even have to toss it in the freezer for a little bit to cool it down. I actually ended up getting a new PSOne when I picked up FFIX and throwing out the old one. I have no clue how I delt with it that long though.
But the PSX wasn't the first console to have problems, remember blowing on nintendo games and wiggling it to try to get the perfect connection so your copy of contra would start up.
But I can understand waiting, Gears of War looks like it could be a big game and with PDZ not getting the best press it might not be a bad idea to wait.
Actually, depending on how many console Norway and other countries get at launch it could matter. At the moment, MS makes no money on the consoles themselves, every bit of profit will come from the software and accessories and, believe it or not, consoles sitting on the shelves of stores don't move software or accessories..
If those consoles would have sold in say Denmark or Germany and sold 2 games at launch with the possibility of more before the end of the year then MS has lost an opportunity to make more money by miss allocating units to a country with lower demand.
Interesting, my buddy picked up a like 3 of the tetris/clone wars games from gamestop.com and I've got one of the Sega GT/JSR discs from them as well. They all looked pretty used to me.
If they got them for free, then I guess that $5 I payed was a ripoff. I hope they at least handed out a buck for them, JSR was pretty sweet on the Dreamcast.
Very true about Halo, I never even thought of dragging a PS2 to a friends house. The only time I had ever done system link was once or twice with the original Armor Core on PSX. But there was a period where every couple weeks my friends and I would drag an extra XBox to my friends apartment and play some Halo and maybe PGR2 or Crimson Skies.
I'm sure the fact that we had several hundred feet of "link cable" already set up around the apartment made things easier but Halo was really what had us give it a shot.
I think silver being added in an effort to increase the sales of payed DLC. Not only does it let you reach a wider audience by not requiring them to pay a subscription first but it also separates the Live payment from the DLC value in the users mind.
At them moment a lot of users probably feel like developers are double dipping by charging for DLC. Now they are being more explicit, multiplayer is $50/year while DLC and friends lists are free. Now even though I pay my $50/year, I don't see that DLC as being part of what I'm paying for and I don't feel like I already payed for that PGR3 PDLC ($5) when I payed for my live subscription.
I guess if you look at it like that they are raising the price. You are getting fewer additional services for the same price.
I remember hearing that at one point there were more AF1 dvd's sold than DVD players, although I don't think they were counting DVD drives in computers. So the movie may have sucked but it did sell very well for an early dvd release.
At least we still saw Halo on the Mac in the end. And looking back at Halo, how long do you really think that company was going to stay a primarily mac developer. If they weren't bought out be MS something would have happened to have them making games for PC or consoles where there is more money.
Look at it this way, at least they didn't get bought by EA.

Yes, Ninja Gaiden is worth it :)

Having not bothered to continue reading past this statement I don't understand how this post could get modded 'insightful'

Don't forget the Sega CD & 32X!
Yes! Competitive Lawn Mowing! Up next on ESPN 8, The Ocho!

What about PDR3? You girls can drive poorly and not have to worry about causing damage to real cars! ;)

PGR3 and DOA4, that was all I needed to hear :p

I guess it depends on how much that guy brought to the table on day 1. More money or more sweat, he may have deserved that 41%.
Scroll to the bottom for god's chariot :D.
The online play is not free, that is what Gold is for. They will have free weekends for Silver members to play for free but those won't be the norm.
:)
From what I understand Silver only gives you access to a friends list, voice chat, and downloadable content (some of which must be purchased).
BTW, as an xbox live subscriber, I'm quite satisfied with the service that I get for $50 a year

Not a bad idea but I would just suggest that developers try to make games that hold a players attention for more than 60 days...
