    Yes, and they serve up files. They won't go near doing all that Apache does. It's very easy to write a webserver to simply serve files but to do everything else (plug-in architecture, security framework, etc) it takes a lot.

    Not that somebody else couldn't do it. But why if it's done quite well already.

    How does this harm regular consumers? Are we talking that price on players will go up? Or price on media?

    Or is this new scheme something that requires a whole new player to understand it?

    The CDFreaks link is down and I couldn't find anything on a quick google other than the specs. And I don't want to read a spec sheet!

    Or is it worth all that extra cash and fuel for 2 trips a year? For the hauling, get it delivered. For the trip where 4-wheel drive is required...go somewhere less muddy ;)

    But seriously, saying "twice a year I need to do something with a truck so I *need* one" seems a bit...odd.

    How the hell do you actually estimate that something will cost 6 trillion dollars? Trying to get an estimate for something that can run upwards of a million dollars would be extremely hard.

    I mean, sure, if you're off by a couple million then it's not a big deal in the scheme of things but has there ever been a more "pulled out of our ass" estimate ever?

    Sounds like saying "We don't know but it'll be lots!"

    You're an "interesting" in my book but I'm out of points.

    The main thing is it doesn't say exactly how they track this number. If I do both legal and illegal ways, where does that count me in the percentages? Does it just get crossed out as "even"? That falls into the logical fallacy you mentioned. Conversely, if I'm just counted as one or the other, then the results are going to be skewed there as well.

    Basically, we need their spreadsheet to see ;)

    I was listening up until here:

    LCD screen does not have that same metabolism & brain-slowing effect that the cathode ray tube does.

    And that made me do a double-take. Where does this come from? Seriously, I'd be interested in reading it.

    It said Knoppix was the first "major" live CD. So you're correct on your correction but that's based on an incorrect interpretation.

    Right but it doesn't keep "Office" in RAM. It keeps some pieces loaded up but to say that Office was preloaded is incorrect

    That's not necessarily keeping Office in RAM. It's preloading some shared DLLs that other applications use as well. And osa.exe is no more in the latest releases (I know he said "never")

    Every technological advancement will hurt the poor the most. We can cry all day about it if we want but that's the way it is. New stuff == more expensive. In time, prices will come down and $200 TVs will be sitting on the shelves just begging to be bought.

    Well, it wasn't clear from the article but from some reading I assume they mean March 1...2006. Yeah sure, may seem obvious to some but a date with no year can mean many things.

    I agree. I'm not a huge fan of Pamela Anderson but this show is actually entertaining. It's not ideal but it makes me laugh and want to watch it (for obvious reasons)

    I agree on it being bizarre someone modded you interesting. And I find it unfortunate that you were going for +5 Funny. At best, this is -2 OLD JOKE.

    Over a year ago people found out how to "uninstall" IE from Windows. As soon as he said it couldn't be done you know everyone went nuts trying to do it.

    So let's stop using an old joke to try and get boosted up with other possibly relevant posts.

    Adjusted for the split? The historical price is yes. But once the split happens, it's half what it used to be at that point if you don't go back historically and split the price. If it was at $60 and they split 2-1, it's "down" to $30.

    I believe that's what the poster was talking about.
