Mapping the eye can be done with either technique but as I understood it only affected the small imperfections you could see prior to the operation anyways (with glasses on a sunny day looking at the clear blue sky).
As for using the word "scarring" I'm not sure I'm using the correct term here but it's what I remember hearing as an explanation.
Both methods have pretty much the same risk and the same side effects except LASIK has two more on their list and make the other ones more difficult to avoid.
The first problem that only LASIK has is free flapping (ie: flap detaches itself for any reason at all... hit to the face with a volleyball is common, falling in water at high speed is another but there are plenty of other ways to detach the flap and these can have dire consequences for your eyes. The second is epithelial ingrowth which cannot happen with PRK because there is no place where the epitelium can grow under.
All other side effects are shared but PRK is starting to show possibilities which LASIK cannot. Let me explain.
In France an eye doctor discovered that applying a medication to slow down the natural healing process of the eye actually removed lots of the problems with scars which caused imperfections in the eye after the surgery(haze, dots, etc...). He actually used this "slow healing" method for other surgeries but decided to apply them to laser surgery as well to see the benefits.
He discovered that applying this medication at the time of surgery decreased the chances of halos and other problems from happening later on. Applying once is great and can be done with LASIK but PRK allows you to slow the healing process for longer by applying the same medication for several days after the initial operation.
Doing so requires patients to be well... more patient but the results are stellar and getting approval.
I was one of his patients and let me tell you I'm ever so glad I met the guy;-D
There are less side effects and the results are almost always better with PRK. It also is easier to do touch ups as needed.
The reason why it isn't as popular in the states is that it requires people to take a few days off so their eyes recover. I could afford a week off in countries where you can get more than 2 weeks of vacation.;-P
Brought to you by the Vacation for everyone lobby.
Well macro viruses from the original definition do exist. Many of them would launch when opening a word file, infect all other word files on the computer and send an attachment to everyone in the address book. Of course these only work on MS Office.
Pardon me for asking but doesn't the definition of a virus include duplication? All I hear is that some code can download a picture. How does it "reproduce" itself and infect other stations?
Oh get over yourself! No one is perfect! The USA has been condemned by NGOs for as long as they exist on their lack of respect for human rights too. Ask a Chinese man what country is doing horrible as far as human rights is concerned and he might point you to the USA.
That being said we can all improve and if these lawsuits bring to light what needs to be fixed then it can only be good for us in the long run!
To be honest with you ODF is slower on Linux as well and nothing stops us from speeding things up on an open source OS.
The truth is ODF is made to be portable and they didn't really consider making it fast loading when they built it. I'm not scared though. A second version could speed things up considerably. The beauty of collaboration!!:-D
Each time you get sent back to the back of the line it grows bigger each time. And when the movie starts the power goes out and someone yells "Leeroy!!! NOT AGAIN!!!"
the high school tendency to make fun of anyone interested in something other than sports?
I'm asking honestly. Why do we encourage sports so much and not higher arts?
This has nothing to do with Wine or Linux.
If he had been using the keyboard and macros but been able to respond when asked a question it wouldn't have been a problem.
The problem is this guy was not at his computer for all intent and purpose and leveling his character's skill through automation. He was close to his computer but not on it while leveling his skills.
Bannable.
Moral would dip if they knew just how much we don't like Oil Wars.
Support the troops! Let them believe they are doing the right thing and do not under any circumstance question the motives of your leaders.
Illegal war.
What class, person or profession does GTA respect? Are prostitutes especially targetted? I'm sure running over lawyers would be more fun but they aren't street workers.
But I'm younger than most of the/. crowd!:-P
Seriously that thing was amazing... I learned BASIC in there so I could cheat on games.
My cousin couldn't understand how I got such a high score!! mwaaaa hahahahah aahaaahaahaha
Actually in Canada if you refuse service you would otherwise give to someone else on the basis of sexuality you are in for some fun legal trouble.
But that's not what Blizzard is doing. They're just asking people to be reasonable about their recruitement so they don't attract too much trouble from intolerant biggots. You are allowed to be a group of any type, just be quiet about it in game when recruiting. You can post on your guild web site that you are gay or christian friendly but you cannot recruit in-game with that as your billboard.
I believe the whole story is a storm in a tea cup.
I'm an avid Open Source Software fan. I distribute linux cds for free at work, to friends and neighboors. I also install Firefox and Open Office to show friends how nice those packages work.
The Gimp? No way in hell will I confuse anyone I love with it. I'm sad to see such a nicely programmed application suffer so much from a delusionary view that the interface they have is the right one. So far they don't want to fix it and to me that represents the biggest hurdle for OSS to reach more people.
The Gimp being so frustrating is the reason I still use Photoshop.
We joked about France being cowards telling us we shouldn't go to Irak.
Reasons given by France were:
1) no links to Al-Quaeda or 9/11 2) it will cause havoc in the middle east and the rest of the world 3) WMDs aren't present like they used to
Today we still haven't found WMDs, it's clear that Bush and Co lied about Saddam Hussein's ties to Al-Quaeda and it did cause havoc and cost billions.
France now fights for people's rights to use the music they payed for in ways they should be free to do so. They also legitimise the use of the p2p technology rather than attempt to make it illegal like some senators in the US.
Sadly friends it seems the US is falling behind both on a freedom level and a moral level.
So to all those people with their surrender jokes that aren't funny I say at least France isn't selling it's soul. It remains true to Freedom. More so in actions than in speech.
http://www.wowdetox.com/ is a place where plenty people disapointed in Blizzard have expressed their reasons why.
And honestly the games suck right now. http://www.wowdetox.com/

Why do we have to compete?

What are you doing in the big blue room? Get back inside before you get skin cancer!

Again... /sigh
Imagine if some slob with long uncombed hair vented the merits of a sandwich... would you eat this sandwhich?
Please get a hair cut and some real shoes. That goes for anyone who's working on GPL3 especially.

does it run World of Warcraft nicely?
Cause a Mac Mini sure would look nice in my sitting room. :-D
Just to see how well it would run... Cause honestly it's the only thing worth benchmarking for me.
