    - cheaper than getting something equivalent in laptop form

The only downside is that I love laptop keyboards. If anyone knew of a place where I could buy a plugable USB keyboard the size and shape similar to what you would find on a laptop it would make me really happy for xmas.

You can blame many people for the English tradition (yes English tradition, not American) but Americans are only part of the reason why Halloween appeared in France.

According to this link: http://french.about.com/library/bl-halloweeninfran ce.htm France Télécom has about as much to do with the tradition spanning to France as American television did. The first I saw of Halloween was in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon in 1990. I hear from friends in Bretagne that in Rennes locals are resisting the tradition.

The first I heard about Halloween in mainland France was when Orange (France Telecom partnership with the English operator) decided to put thousands of pumpkins around the trocadero to sell their new phone. http://www.humanite.fr/journal/1999-10-30/1999-10- 30-298586 I was in Canada at the time but could tell that France was going through some deep changes from the looks of it.

I'm not sure Halloween should be something to "blame" on the USA on and actually come to think of it France should concentrate on American cultural memes which disfavor some of France's finest achievements. I'd be more scared of the commercial beers, process cheese and fast food crap that does inroads on the French market. All of these things replace to some extent the fine wines, liquors and ciders, outsanding cheeses and excellent restaurants that are unequaled world wide (IMHO).

If anything France should adapt with Halloween and use it to market their nougats, papillotes, guenots and other local candies. I believe 99% of what French people ingest is of better quality than what crap we eat here in North America. Chocolate bars in France don't have wax in them, MSG is illegal in restaurants, etc...

France still has a lot of fronts to defend their qualities on. Not having Halloween isn't imho a quality.

How is that modded to insightful?

France does not hate America and doesn't really care about the anglicization of the French language. Only a few really vocal conservatives care about anglicization and they go "shopping" and "park" their cars next to the "building".

Also your comment about a French version of Windows being poorly translated is false. It is very easy to have a completely French computer if all you install is French versions of the software you want. Mix and match your software and you could see Korean and Elbonian on your computer.

Please stop with that fallacy about France hating America. The only thing France hates about America is now at record lows in approval ratings. Seems you have more in common with the French than you might expect.

From history we see lots of diseases come on very strongly until it then reaches its "apogée" (influenza, common cold in North America ~1600, syphillis post columbus, etc...). Wether it be that humans are adapting (like chimps have to SIV) or that the disease is simply softening up to be better at spreading is unclear. His hypothesis does make sense though.

the pvp rank system doesn't work in such a way as normal RPGs do. It sets the mantra of RPGs that whenever you do something good with your char it gets some benefit. Here the rank system is capped and it doesn't matter if you play for 12 years @ 2 hours a day. If someone can play 3 hours a day he'll keep your rank lower because you don't have as much honor as he does. It is a horrible system and it's pissing people off. 22. Re:Sometimes I wished that we were limited here to on Malaysia Gamers Face Night Curfew · · Score: 1

in RPGs your character level and his gear determine a huge amount of your chance to beat challenges. In PVP (player vs player) someone with rank 12 gear does better than someone with rank 6 gear 99% of the time. Unless the rank 12's keyboard batteries die on him at the same time the pizza arrives and the mother tells him he needs to wash. If you play against higher level players you get a bit more honor. In the grand scale of things the added bonus you get gives you next to nothing if you don't have the 16 hours required a day to get anywhere. Playing just for fun works but losing consistently because you have crappy gear becomes old. It's like racing a car with a bicycle. Sure the ride might be fun but the result will always be the same.

  23. Sometimes I wished that we were limited here too on Malaysia Gamers Face Night Curfew · · Score: 5, Insightful

Too many games give huge benefits to people who can play longer hours instead of rewarding skills.

Take world of warcraft pvp ranks for example. It's the worst bloody time sink ever. Everyone is up in arms about how little skill it takes to get to high warlord except that jobless-27-year-old-live-at-home-in-parents-baseme nt types. Only people with 16 hours a day have a chance to reach rank 14 and even skill less people have been able to do so just by having more time on their hands.

As a married man with a job and a social life I'd love it if I could play with skills and get rewarded. Instead may games reward time spent.

If we were limited to 2 hours a day of gameplay (or at least no advantage whatsoever to play more than 3 hours in a day) the pvp ranking system would be way less skewed in favor of people with more time.
