Get Opera 7.10 browser and you can select what they call Author Mode by a single button click, makes it an instant text only view (after you turn off graphics). It maintains some of the layout but not the annoying colours and such.
We'll modify ourselves to the point where we're no longer recognisably human. At that point, "we" are dead, and a new species will have taken our place. Yes, I mean that -- eventually, the genetically modified will not be able to interbreed with the unmodified.
and people will still be trying to get FP on slashdot:)
And Slashdot will still look the same (ugly) as it does now.

How about instead of sending waste into space, we re-use this (recycle!) waste. All the waste we currently create (nuclear waste is an exception) can and should be recycled. If we just send it to space, we lose those valuable resources. Just a thought:)
Nobody without loads of cash to blow is ever going to buy one of these unless the price was in the sub $500 range. You can buy a powered scooter for that price ($500 or cheaper) that will take you to your destination just as fast if not faster and you can actually carry it as it doesn't weigh more than 20-30 pounds if that. A $50 bike will just as much and are generally accepted in most places and most people learn how to ride a bike during childhood so its not such a hard thing to do. I'm sorry, but the Segway will never work like they hoped as its just not what people need.

This is a very good point. Slashdot should implement some sort of policy about such things. The/. effect can be very detrimental to these small sites and can have them shut down as a result. Yet again the idea of having a/. cache of the site is valid, I'm sure they will not sue for copyright violations if/. is saving them a ton of money.
Oh well, I expect this post to be ignored like all the rest by the Slashdot editors. They are not very professional when it comes to these things, but here I am again preaching to the choir.
Why did they not talk (assuming they did not) with Opera to use their tech for the web browser? It rocks, its TINY and v.7 is standards compliant and its fast. I use it daily and it has some great features for web developers.
Not to mention that in taking a standard flatbed truck they ignored the truck that was specially designed for the military (one of many), the Hummer! Instead of taking a bullet resistant, offroad capable, already have tons of them trucks they pick some piece of crap civilian vehicle that wont last 2 weeks in combat. Way to waste tax dollars. Hosers.
This may have been modded as funny, but krazyninja makes some good points. Why do windows/dialogs/forms have to constantly pop in front of me when I'm busy in some other application? This is a big problem and there is usually no way in a program to turn off these popups.
... if it doesn't play in my one and only CD player (my computer) then it will go back to the store and they will hear my complaints. I have also taken up writing (paper version) letters to these companies when something like this doesn't work. I guess I wont be buying any music from BMG from now on, should save me some effort. Although I will write them a letter about it.
Although I consider the parent thread flamebait, I will respond anyway. The book is not just about DHTML, it is in fact a very good reference for HTML, CSS, and Javascript which are used every day by most web developers. The book outlines which tags are supported by what browsers and thus allows you to create a site that is accessable by all. The book is good for anyone who does or doesnt use DHTML just due to the fact that is is a general reference book.
As I just stated, the first edition was a great book and it has never left my desk since the day I bought it. If your a serious web developer or just a part time page monkey, this book (the first or I guess now the second edition) is for you. Hard to go wrong buying an O'Reilly book.
What they do to make the image seem that much sharper/clearer is to make the rest of the image blury or out of focus. This results in their new TV looking super sharp on your not so sharp TV. Simple, but it works.

We have that now, there called geeks.

This could be refered to as "Server Suicide"!

Now, your forgetting a little something; this is Slashdot, most of the members haven't been able to do this for years!
Not one eye was put out that summer.
:)
Three, then? Four? Five?
No, your missing the significance of the line. It was "Not one eye was put out that summer", as in it happened during some other summer.

Good point...
This stories QOTD as seen at the bottom of the page couldn't be more on topic!
I sat down beside her, said hello, offered to buy her a drink... and then natural selection reared its ugly head.
There have been other Slashdot stories on this topic, but this could be the last one.
;)
Not if past history tells us anything! I'm sure this story will be seen again at least once
I was replying to the parent of my post... heh, I guess it doesn't look that way without the parent there.
First: Those quiet generators can't run inside due to toxic fumes (suck on an tailpipe:)
Second: New tech, not sure how long these things last yet. (yeah, lame excuse, but its one they use)
Third: Wooh... hydrogen is flammable, so is gas (petrol), alcohol, methane, propane... many others. Just use caution as normal when handling.

Gaaahh! How could you forget DVD, cell phone and digital camera! Oh and a GPS! ;)
