I've been waiting for something nice to finally come out so that I can read pdf's and ps files without having to lug my laptop around, not that I do, or print them out.
If the windows version they are running is as good as w2k that's enough for me.
Granted my laptop is about 2.5 years old, but it came with a 12 GB HD and well I really hope that they'll be 100 GB ones I can swap out for with with new technology, or at least something half decent if I buy a new system

Exactly how many Nuclear power plants would it take to deflect a meteor that's of any real global harm?
What employer is seriously going to pay $35/employee to monitor their IM usage? Especially when most people use IM for personal reasons.
There is a much cheaper solution. If you don't show a need to use an IM client at work, then you don't get too.
I think one problem with current games is that their story lines are just lame. For some reason in my experience making a game for the computer is much different than a console. For a console having a simple side scroller where you just have to make it past the baddies and to the end is okay, but on a computer it is not.
One reason is probably that a key board interface is much worse than a game pad and proportionatly very few computer game players own game pads. So on a computer game you have to have some type of good/unique interface, but that alone is not enough, you have to have an actually genuine story line. I would even go as far as to say that for most games you could put more necessity into the story than the graphics. It's the whole book vs. movie idea. The mind can make much more vivid images than a screen if given a good story. This is one reason that I think the Myst line made out so well. The interface was Ok at best compared to a lot of other games, but the visuals and the story really did suck you in. It really did become your world as the game tag line went.
I'm not saying that this goes for all games but it _definetly helps_. For instance First person shooters don't really require a plot, ie. Doom, or even much of an intracate one, i.e. Half Life. But a really nice one that has everything the other games has will do better. Marathon was this. It was an amazing game and I think one of the few reasions it didn't catch on quite as well as say doom is that it started out on the Mac.
It's like a really good movie. It isn't all flashy and smooth graphics, it's the good story along with all that.
When I read about the second Space Station coming out soon, I had the thought that they really should have regular shuttles between the two. There may not be a real good reason for it, but it seems that the only real way to get all this space exploration/inhabitation really going is to make it appealing to the average guy on the ground. Imagine how people will become interested if they read about people taking regular trips between the two stations, just like they do between places on earth. Unfortunatly, it will take a certain amount of commercialization to get all this really going.
My idea may sound a little silly, and I admit it is but I think it has some saving grace.
If MS looses. Their price will plummet, much more in magnitude than it will go up if they win. Additionally, the price will stay low for a long time.
If MS is broken up, I think it will take a long time till people believe they can be profitable individually, and even a long time till they are actually profitable. So I guess it's a matter of short term or long term gains, and how much you agree with me.:)
Why not use the Terraserver? should be high enough resolution, I can even find my apartment on the thing. It is MS though, if that happens to not be you thing.
What if it were a directory that you wanted to be able to browse? You can't get a directory listing unless the dir is +x, 7 is more universally usable than 6. It's not that important, the last two digits are.
hehe, yes yes I know SG was a movie to start with, I even own it!:O
Movie to TV seems to be a lot more sucessful than TV to Movie. For one thing Movies are usually stand alone, in that a movie is not usually written with any sequal in mind so it has the freedom to use it's cast of characters however it sees fit and even to completely close the plot line off. They don't always do this which leaves room for TV series spin offs.
However the opposite is harder as part of the reasion the series was sucessful is that is _was_ a serial, and porting that to a movie is simply bad. If they made the movie as a really big all out Series finale to SG-1 where they could kill everyone or part of the cast etc.. that would be good, however, if they try to do it like the X-Files it'll just be mediocre.
This, they hope, will segue directly into filimg a 'feature'. Smith said this a couple of times, but he emphasised the feature is not yet 100% certain. After that, the spinoff.
I really think loosing Shanks was a horrible blow to the show and the story, but you have to admit they have been doing well with the direction things are going.
I wonder though how well they can do a movie. Very very few TV->Movie moves have gone well if not simply OK, I would hate to see them fall into this pit. I'm starting to wonder if it's possible to do the TV->Movie transition.
As for the spinoff I don't think it will go anywhere. I watch SG-1 but I don't think I would watch it if not for the current cast. Guess I'll see...

Wouldn't all that be part of the contract the employee is highered under? I do DoD work but I'm not part of the government. I'm pretty sure all those forms I signed say they own anything I write. I'm not certain though:P

Your safety isn't enough? There is a lot that is better that the public not know, purely so it doesn't get to those few that would be a threat with it. Another issue is that there is both Classified and Unclassified code. It's better to have one development strategy for everything, and you DO NOT want your classified code to be GPL'd.

Now only if we could get people to use Dvorak layouts, then they could be faster than faster than handwriting.

OSs, compilers, languages etc.... are simply tools. Use the best tool or combination of tools for what you need to do.

You hook it up to your TV, there you go. $300 is very resonable for an external CD-RW/DVD alone. Let alone all the portable features of mp3 etc..
