Here's a tip on the iBook. When installing the OS, MAKE SURE that right before you finally install that you click customize and uncheck all the languages and printer options you don't need.

This will save you at least a gig and your install should take 15 mins to 1/2 an hour.

    Cheers.

    1. There are tools to remap keys. I'm sure the command and control keys can be switched as well. Yes, you do need to look for the tool or option.

    2. Idiotic. Command S is not easy enough? Tool bars are generally evidence of poor design. You memorize the shortcut keys for your frequent options. Yes, there can be designs where there are too many keys to remember but SAVE? Oh command S people.

    3. control click anyone? why a multi button mouse when control click works just as well and doesn't confuse new users?

    4. Interesting, I'll agree.

    5. This is horrible. Totally completely stupid and horrible. You sort by name and just TYPE the name of your folder and then press command down arrow to open it. Why in hell do people want an alphabetical sort to separate any files from folders? How do you know when the folders stop and the files start? What if you have more than one screen of folders? Folders at the top is something I really really think is pretty damn stupid as it breaks the metaphor of alphabetical sorting. Oh, if you want it, PathFinder, a finder replacement, has it

    6. Um, ok. Software authors heed to increase their budget to have a copywriter write the context sensetive help.

And on : - Existing files selectable in Save dialog
This sucks. I want to click in the file list to set my focus there so i can command up or command down arrow into and out of folders. But now, when I click to set focus, if I hit a file name, I mistakenly replace my current file's filename with that of another file and if I press save, I run the risk of overwriting it and deleting that other file. Super lame.

The heavy handed threatening and bodily injury tactics of the Mafia work for a reason. In fact, my father an uncle had to scare away a convicted child molester from one of our adult female family members with exactly that - the threat of severe bodily harm.

Guess what. It worked. You might not like it but it worked.

Of course the US's heavy handed military approach doesn't work that well (even though the US does give a shtload of humanitarian aid in the world) because it runs the risk of creating those who will grow up to defeat those who bring this policy to bear on them. And it's exxxpensive.

Who demoed it : For a short time, Apple's Phil Schiller worked at Macromedia. He was the guy. Took it to some meeting, was super cool.

And the apps: Bingo! You got 50% of it. Back then when we were working on Shockwave Audio, SWA really was MP3 - but even we didn't know it. To the best of my knowledge, Macromedia was the first major licensee of Fraunhoffer's technology and it was used in Director, Shockwave and SoundEdit 16. The Audio was recorded and compressed with SoundEdit 16. The player was created in Director and was cross platform from the get go.

I mentioned this to our VP, Norm and he instantly thought of issues with the MPAA so nothing became of my creation. Too bad we were a few years ahead of our time. Others, like Buzz Kettles on the SoundEdit team created simple players as well. I'm pretty sure mine was the first to create a playlist and allow songs to be selected from a list. A few months ago at a bar in San Francisco, a guy came in, recognized me and said "Zav! Hey, Do you remember when we wrote the first mp3 player ever?" Man, I had totally forgotten about it. I wish to point out a quote that is favared among the Linux crowd, "free as in beer". To a no Linux user, this will appear strange since they know that everyone except bar owners and cute girls must pay for their peer. Therefore, people look at that term and go "what the hell? That's not true."

It is inherently confusing and should be steered away from when addressing people outside the club.

The email included this sentence near its beginning:
"To exploit a cliche - free as in speech, as well as free as in beer."

This is a poor idea as the author is asking for members of a community who might not be Linux users to "get" their message. this is not the correct way to address that audience. Talk to them in terms thay are likely to already understand instead of using the parlance of the Linux community that is probably poorly understoof outside of it.
