During the switch campaign, all of the folks that I saw in the adds were the all blck wearing, pierced noses, and other younger folks who looked really cool. I didn't see any folks in business suits talking about ROI or how it made their organization much more profitable - like you see in IBM, Oracle, SAP, etc... ads.

And next you will blame Apple for your insufficient eyesight, right?

Actually even the new mini has a grpahics card that has been optimized for things like Core Image - it's not that great at 3D stuff sure, but for the kind of UI accelleration that OS X and Vista need it's more powerful than you would think. After all, if I can play 1080p video on the mini what else do I need?

But Core image and the UI accelleration use the 3D stuff, while playing 1080p video only needs bandwidth - and lots of CPU power if the GPU (like that in the Mini) doesn't have video decoding support.

  4. Re:OS X requires the same on Apple Joins BAPCo · · Score: 1
OS X is starting to base more things on top of Core Image (like iPhoto and Aperture) and other technologies that rely pretty heavily on the video card - which is why in the new imacs and Macbook Pro Apple included a halfway decent video card for once. So I think in fact Apple computers will be able to run Vista better than most cut-rate $500 computers.

Not the Core Mac Mini - what were they thinking.

What you and Ars Technica fail to realize is that the French law will make things like Hymn illegal. Not only that, but the law also ultimately requires DRMed songs to play on all portable media players (and OSs) without loss of quality (no re-ripping). IOW unless you force all makers of MP3 players to actually make WMA-10/Fairplay players, this can't be done. IYOW: only non-DRMed music can be sold legally - I'll spell it out for you: no major music label will sell music online anymore.

So what happens? People will have to use illegal means to get Music on their MP3 players (in case you forgot, ripping music from CDs will be illegal under that law).
