Those companies sell chips to motherboard manufacturers, along with 3-5 other companies. Motherboards are made in Asia, where English is not the primary language spoken. Maybe I am just biased having worked at Symbol in their lab testing these, before the flood of cheap, apparently can't do two things at once wireless devices came out. 3. Review? Gimme a break on Linksys WET11: Bridge 30 Devices To Any Wi-Fi Network · · Score: 1

This article was full of more 'you coulds' and not ANY 'I dids'. Had he ever thought that the 'costly' versions of access points have actual stress tests ran on them in bridging mode, that there are limits on how many nodes for a reason (actual processing power inside the access points). All any access point does is acts as a bridge. It is a wireless bridge between wired and wireless devices. Anyone who has access points has them wired into a switch to begin with if they have muliple devices. Ad-hoc mode was designed for connecting two actual clients together, never for connecting access points together. Just looking at the configuration screen and seeing that you can only change the channel when in ad-hoc mode made me feel like they had no clue what the hell they were doing. This product is not an AP. APs work with IPX, Netbeui, IP, etc.. already, what the hell is this protocol independence crap he is saying they don't do. Get a clue, go buy a real access point (Symbol, Cisco, Lucent) or even better just go to their sites and RTFM before posting a less-than-Tech TV worthy 'review' and submitting yourself to slashdot.

Call to power is the worst Civ game ever made. I didn't bother spending over 3 hours playing in it windows, there was 0 chance I would spend a penny playing it on linux. I wouldn't be surprised if Loki sold more Civ:CTP copies for linux than were sold in the whole windows market. You really have to pick your games to be profitable, enough computer gamers have been ripped off / bought crap that they are very skeptical to buy games anymore. I know the warez community was full of many of these people, who just would not purchase a game until they'd played it. X is flaky enough that I never had the slightest inclination to get wine / winex running in the first place. It's sad that Loki went under, but you saw first-hand how a community who prides itself on 'free' really doesn't come together to put money where it is needed. In their defense, publicity isn't what your company should have been wasting money on. Word of mouth / slashdot and other key outlets should be enough to get something needed (and supposedly wanted) out there.

A friend of mine approached me about doing this same thing just 2 weeks ago. We did some research after hearing about the 'baangs' in South Korea. You pay $50 to become an 'honorary' member, and get access to their forum, which will tell you the sort of things you'd like to know (other than it won't work, save your money, etc..) We went up to Broad Ripple (THE cool suburb) in Indianapolis, and checked out netheads. (www.netheads.com) They have a really nice place set up, 28 computers on 2 stories, bar grub, nice imported beer, free wireless lan (donated even) tons of sponsors, a nice atmosphere, comfy furniture, geeks playing D&D, and kick ass machines on 21" monitors. Each computer had about 60 games on it as well.

Age of Empires (published by Microsoft) was one of the best selling PC games in history. The same goes for Turn-base strategy games as well. Civ3 anyone? I am all for RMS's ideology, but until I see a great RTS/TBS game on linux I will stick with Win2k. Console are fine for driving, sports, and fighting games, but when you need maximum control and aim, a PC is the ONLY way to go.
