argghh, I think they should have left the stickers on. I know it implies for them that it's religion intruding on state school but what it actually says is nothing of the sort. "The material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully, and critically considered" - That should be put on ALL science books - this is probably the most important thing for a scientist to do anyway and this is the only example of a science book I can remember that actually SAYS it. What it really implies is "question everything" which is sensible.
Oh, plus, everyone in western societies seems to believe that the theory of evolution is a fact so what's wrong to point out that it is a theory - my school teachers certainly didn't. Why does it get evolutionists so upset?
yey! I've wanted this for a while in order to create connections to the cars around me and tell them (using VoIP) to get out of the way/stop tailgaiting! At least, that's all it'd be used for if it did get VoIP running on it, maybe a standard hack for the first versions:)
I'm guessing it's a paranoid move to prevent any possible DDOS attacks from... well anywhere outside the US. There's been a reasonable amount of US election coverage in the UK so far, hence why the BBC have picked this up already.
Superbly sensible concept. I think they should do the opposite to other devices that are already running on female logic such as the washing machine (what on earth is a delicates pre-wash anyway?)
Exactly. The USSR had a quality space shuttle that seemed to be WAY better than the US one, plus was cheaper to develop.
They made 12 of them to test all the avionics and one of them made it into space as a test flight and on AUTOPILOT landed only 5 feet off it's target (well impressive).
Alas that was it's last flight as it was cancelled cos of lack of cash.
They could use it as a starting point for a new one and hope it doesn't end up as another flight sim ride in Gorky Park
I built mine from the frame of an old road sign I, er, found. It's basically 1 foot high and made of 1inch rectangle steel welded together which means it's a PAIN taking to friends houses for gaming (ie HEAVY). Not a problem if it's just for networking but watch your back.
For the next version I'll be trying to find a lighter metal and DEFINATELY buy some rack stripping rather than drilling holes in the frame to attach kit, as this really doesn't work well. I'd also think more about how to mount the power sockets which was trickyer than I thought and how to get cold cathodes into it without snapping them all this time:)
I saw a program a couple years ago (I think it was Tomorrow's World) that said they were getting air bags for American Football players. Did it ever catch on?
It's a great idea - though I'd also like a few along the frame to protect my legs from the skidding down the road that follows.
Yep, it's the laziness (and games). I've always thought it'd be great to do my day to day stuff on linux because of the ability to hack out the features that were annoying. But I reckon I'd spend all my time doing that rather than working, hence win2k is more productive (for now).
Sure it does look slightly different, but although it's always hassle developing on more than one browser I find Opera faster and less annoying than IE. Less stress is far better than the best looking 'still-in-development' pages I think. The tabbed feature alone makes the whole process less stressful (I'm not sure why when you can just switch between windows but it just does) even if you have to then check complex things in IE and tweak the lot when you're finished.
not bad... I drew a network diagram the other day and was rather impressed - it's cat 5 throughout (which incidently we 'open sourced' from uni skips (yoink!)) We have 100Mbs switches on every one of the 3 floors, ADSL going to a smoothwall firewall , a file server (running samba) for our mp3's and sometime in the future we're going to add a wireless router (so we can check email whilst down our local).
Unfortunately we didn't have the luxury of wiring the house from scratch so it's all carefully placed under carpets. If we did however, we'd DEFFINATELY have cat 5 going to things like lights and heaters and stuff. How cool would it be to get a radio system with some server that does voice recognition - so you could walk in and just say "computer, lights!" (sorry I'm back onboard Voyager).
In our place we hardly talk which took a lot of getting used to at first (only graduated to real life 4 months ago) but this is really cos you can't stare blankly at that function you've re-written twenty times already AND carry on a conversation.
That said when we do stop we have the same sense of humour too (if your clients were superheros, who would win in a fight?)
I think there were a few episodes of Voyager when they did this after someone tried to delete stuff... of course in the 23rd century everyone's an expert in quantum mechanics. I guess it has to happen eventually.
(mmmm holodecks too)
