Speaking of kazaa... Is the linux client officially dead? Can it be downloaded from anywhere? Does it work anymore? Am I the only person that used/remembers this buggy little text client?
All I'm saying is this: IBM has donated oodles of money to the OSS cause. However, all of their ads are rather modest. IBM has EVERY right to come out swinging with anti-microsoft ads. They could be bastards, too, but -- as always -- Microsoft beat them to the bastard boat.
What's happening is this: Microsoft is getting the shit beat out of them in the server market (or, rather, they see the onslaught approaching) and they're floundering, doing anything they can to prolong the inevitable. I agree, what they're doing isn't illegal.
Nice business practices, MS. You'd think you could prove that your product is superior through example, not slander. If these ads are half as bad as they seem, I say IBM starts making commercials full of BSoD's and says explicitly: "You will never see a blue screen of death with Unix".
You might want to stray from saying It's far better than any other UNIX browser if you don't have any evidence to back it up.
Those windows-inside-of-windows in Opera make me SICK. And the GUI is reprehensible. There's my reasons for hating Opera, what are your reasons for loving it?
I use guns because I'm in impressionable 16 yr old. I played WAY too much DOOM when I was younger, and now I play all sorts of "shoot-em-ups". I own a complete arsenal and one day I will kill you all! Mwahaha.
Seriously, guns are legal. They will stay that way. Making guns illegal does nothing. Last time I checked, murder was illegal, doing (insert drug of choice here) was illegal, rape was illegal, and yet these things continue to go on EVERY DAY OF MY NATURAL LIFE.
Illegalization stops nothing, except keeping guns out of the hands of LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS.
Criminals don't care about laws, hence the name "CRIMINAL"
You rule! I wish more people could see things the way you (and I ) see them. Seriously, it's painfully obvious that linux will replace windows on the desktop. I'd wager that nearly half of current engineering students (of which, I am one) use Linux as their primary OS. Obviously, we will have an influence on the industry when we jump into it. For example, I won't work somewhere where I'm forced to use windows or mac. And others, I'm sure, feel the same.
Trying to use gnome on a low-end box? Uh, yeah, sure:P Might as well run windoze on it.
For low end systems we have WindowMaker, FVWM, and best of all, Blackbox.
{ Blackbox 0wns j00:) }
Not saying anything bad about gnome, it's a great product, so is KDE, but it's for people that like eyecandy and windows-like features. Either buy new hardware or use a slimmer windowmanager. Gnome, KDE, and windows don't cut it.
1) Dialup sucks ass.
2) You advertise your ISP. Once your ISP goes under (and it will), or you decide to stop putting up with (1), you'll lose it. So then you phone all your friends and let them know you're now at somewhere_else@some_other_ISP.com
3)webspace? eh? You mean a 1M chunk on a unix server that doesn't support any dynamic content whatsoever? Cuz that's usually what they include when they say "webspace".
WHAT??? Are you serious? That would be devastating. I noticed the other day, however, that www.yaoo.com dropped off the map. Maybe they are having issues. As for the POP3 service, I just got submitting my $20. It's only $20/year, no big deal. Also, they claim that it will reduce spam and it will. This is why: people that use the yahoo webUI have their spam sent to their "Bulk mail folder", however, us poor saps that use/used the pop3 service for free never had the email get dropped into the bulk mail. It all came to us. Thank God I use linux exclusively, because I get about 1 virus per week.
w00t.
So apparently, they'll start to apply a filter to people that pay for the pop3.
Let's just hope that MS realizes to stop using a SINGLE QUOTE as a comment marker. Or else, a lazy programmer might forget to fix them. Then when you perform INSERT into FS (home) values ("Let's all jump for joy at SQL filesystems") it comes out like this:
------------- | id | home | | 1 | Let | -------------
Music should be free, just like software. IP is a sham, it's something greedy people came up to make them more money. Real musicians don't behave this way. Go to a punk show. It will cost you ten dollars. You can hang out with the band after the show. They do it for the love, not the money.
Also, in this whole discussion of naming conventions, I haven't seen anyone mention animal names. That's what I've been using. Depending on the function, you can give it a suitable animal name. For example, my primary workstation is named "Wolverine" because it's fast, fierce, and smallish. My laptop is "Python" because it's small and slow. My last workstation was "Raven" because it was evil. Damn you, AMD Irongate chipset, YOU SUCK. By the way, Raven's guts are for sale.;)
Blah. You're a troll. If you never wrote your precious documents in Word you wouldn't have that problem. It's all a matter of perspective. For example, I sure as hell wouldn't switch to micro$hit, because then I wouldn't be able to use: 1) my bash aliases 2) my custom blackbox styles 3) more than one window manager (even simultaneously) 4)Q3/Urban Terror without losing performance and occassionaly crashing the entire OS 5) I don't have enough time to list them all.
Windows is inferior. Period. Once you make the switch, you'll wonder how you could have been such a troll.
Does it include the new *nSync song on the trailer!? Does (insert some nsync guy's name here) have a new haircut!? Ooh ooh, I gotta get my hands on that sexy sell-out flavah!
Star Wars 1,2,3 Good stuff. It's all downhill from here; geeks and 14 yr old boy bands don't mix.
I have spoken blashpheme against ye geekdom; mod me as troll.
I could really see this happening. However, you forgot to mention the fact that AOL will bundle their version of Linux on those annoying CDs *cough* -- coasters -- that are constantly in my mailbox. If they did that, that would be one hell of an inroads to the desktop, IMO. All you have to do is print "FREE OPERATING SYSTEM THAT DOESN'T CRASH ON THIS CD-ROM! Install now!" and you've got them ALL hooked. Then employ about a thousand tech support and you have the world.
Bah.
What a bunch of dicks.
Why would they make that client and then just stop supporting it?
Speaking of kazaa...
Is the linux client officially dead? Can it be downloaded from anywhere? Does it work anymore? Am I the only person that used/remembers this buggy little text client?
And I thought Microsoft was the only company that consisted solely of pigeon-brained species =/
I didn't say they were illegal.
All I'm saying is this:

I agree, what they're doing isn't illegal.
It's just lame.
Nice business practices, MS. You'd think you could prove that your product is superior through example, not slander. If these ads are half as bad as they seem, I say IBM starts making commercials full of BSoD's and says explicitly: "You will never see a blue screen of death with Unix".
The single coolest thing I've seen done with mozilla:
http://oeone.com/
This is a little iMAC-ish PC that uses -- get this -- Mozilla code as it's GUI WM!
These are very cute, check them out.
Care to back up your #3?
You might want to stray from saying It's far better than any other UNIX browser if you don't have any evidence to back it up.
Those windows-inside-of-windows in Opera make me SICK. And the GUI is reprehensible. There's my reasons for hating Opera, what are your reasons for loving it?
Besides the fact that it's $20.
I use guns because I'm in impressionable 16 yr old. I played WAY too much DOOM when I was younger, and now I play all sorts of "shoot-em-ups". I own a complete arsenal and one day I will kill you all!

Because they have self-respect?
Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
You make it too easy.
R-rated cut of the film
Naked Frodo?
C'mon, you want to see it too.
Contra owns j00!
Ahh, the spread gun.
Sweet, sweet, memories.

It's not FTP.
Money is tight nowadays.
And nothing is stopping you from buying a OC3 pipe, and setting up your own FTP mirror for KDE/mandrake/whatever.
Oh, except money.
"can we find a decent place to mirror anything? "
I guess I just answered your question.
Hm...here's some reasons:
1) Dialup sucks ass.
2) You advertise your ISP. Once your ISP goes under (and it will), or you decide to stop putting up with (1), you'll lose it. So then you phone all your friends and let them know you're now at somewhere_else@some_other_ISP.com

Maybe.
...Couldn't agree more.
2 words:

Lucas is a whore, and he's not even sexy. What a waste of a perfectly good whore.
MS is retarded.
--another angry Vbscript/ASP slave.
ROFL
:)
This is great stuff, thanx for brightening my lunch break
....grrr...
I hit submit and then:
It's been 19 seconds since you hit 'reply'!
What, I'm being punished for typing 120words/minute?
Blow me.

They just can't catch a break. What happened is very unfortunate...but at least those employees got to work on one HELL of a project.
