"You're not one of those people who actually believes that security and liberty are opposite sides of the coin, are you?"
Security and liberty are often at odds.
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." --Thomas Jefferson to Archibald Stuart, 1791. ME 8:276
"It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others; or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own." --Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Rush, 1803. ME 10:381
"Developers are not permitted to build Custom Clients that are multi-headed or interoperable with any other IM network."
How are they going to stop people from building multi-headed clients? It would be nice if they would work toward standardizing or creating a common protocol for IM instead always trying to fragment it.
You hit the nail right on the head. Unfortunately many larger companies find it cheaper to pay a licensing fee than to fight it in court. Who loses is the little guy who can't afford a defense or the licensing fee.
Shame on Balthasar. I remember when they were a small start-up doing good work. Hopefully they are only doing this to protect themselves.
No, I keep my eyes peeled for those Christian religous nuts trying to influence/raise my children and telling me what I can and can't buy at my favorite store.
Where are these "Christian" extremists exactly, and whose embassies are they burning?
They are too busy killing doctors and burning clinics. Not to mention the amount of time you waste during an occasional Crusade or a Spanish Inquisition.
"The fact is suicidal behaviour has increased from social changes, and does not appear to be related much if anything to genetical heritage."
Your post just proved the parent's position. "Social changes" are part of the environment:
"Natural selection is the metaphor Charles Darwin used in 1859 to name the process he postulated to drive the adaptation of organisms to their environments and the origin of new species." (source)
So yes, this is good example of natural selection, but maybe not inheritance, which is probably what you are thing of.
Another example of how modern technology is undermining core business plans. You'd think they would've seen the writing on the wall... in, oh lets say, 1875?
Price goes up, sales go down. Find the happy medium. Your pricepoint is about $25 above it right now. $15 if it's actually decent.
No please, they deserve their money for their work. And we have the right to purchase those rights from someomne else (ianal). Sorry if I misread you, but we need to pay for what we play.
The happy medium is that players want to keep the games they purchase (prorperty). Being an old fart I still keep my old cartidge games in air-tight baggies.
To David Jaffe from game consumers: "With the polished turds your industry has been throwing against the wall lately... You know what? Why the **** should we even buy anymore?"
If you created decent games, we wouldn't mind paying full price and guess what? We'd actually keep them rather than sell them as second hand. Wow! What a novel solution.
It's better than being named after a crater at Baghdad international airport.

Can I join? I don't make enough money to be republican.
"Shame it has to be such an expensive process."

You mean like the entire Catholic church did to Hitler in the 30's and 40's?
Where are these "Christian" extremists exactly, and whose embassies are they burning?

I think the theory for this method of transportation was disproved by Wile E Coyote a few years ago.
