If their terminal uses red text, they are definately evil black hats... but if it is green or blue then they are on the side of good and justice and are white hats.
The old analogy of the unlocked house might be good, but not quite right. Try this analogy if you will.
A homeowner is trying to sell a house and puts out a sign saying that his house is open for tours. You can request a key at the door. Well say he finishes the open house, but leaves the sign and still gives keys to people. Is it their fault that he did not remove the sign and did not stop issuing keys?
You don't understand, unless you married like I am,... no this aint another April Fool's joke, I am really married... but it is important this comes out in December. My birthday is December 18th, so I kinda get a free pass with my wife on picking a movie to see. If it is moved to May, I may be forced to divorce my wife and quit my job just to go see the last movie in the series!!!!!
For some of us old enough to remember, Intel once sold processors without a math coprocessor. The main catch was that there really was a coprocessor in each chip, it was just disabled. The point was to make many of the same chip, but then sell the normal chip for more money than the one with the disabled math coprocessor. More details on this can be found easily.
Now imagine Intel cranking out all the same processor capable of 3 Ghz+, but then using this technique to basically sell you a "lesser" version. It makes sense in a way, but I somehow feel that the customer is being taken advantage if this occurs.
Now now, calm down my precious Voodoo 3 3500 with TV In/Out. He didn't really mean those nasty things he said. I know that one day you will run Neverwinter Nights correctly.
Muds were an early form of most things we take for granted on the internet today. Chat rooms, Instant message,... fear even cybersex where you actually have a "body" to use if you wish. The community is from the feeling that you are living and dying together with your friends.
I still frequent one of the old muds I used to play. The main thing I am interested in is that many muds are good places to sharpen coding skills. LP muds for instance are beautiful examples of object oriented programming, and a simple way to "experience" what you are coding. The mixture of pre-compiled and interpreted code sections will make it interesting for many years to come, if only in an *ack* educational sense.
I don't know if the computers can sort out the good pr0n you want to see, but I imagine they could with the right filters sort them by breast size, hair color, and number of people involved. Even this small bit might really help you utilize your time in "this most important area" much more effectively.
Karaoke just aint good enough any more...
on
Beer and Bluetooth

Karaoke used to be the thing, but that is no so "lame". Watching other drunk people might be more interesting.
This sounds so much like the argument that once a software company has made enough money on a version of software that they should/could give it away or open source it so that people who would have never bought it can benefit from it.
The part that gets me is that there has to be a "trusted entity" that ensures that the release occurs once this mysterious threshold is reached.
I think there is a great parallel here in the pharmaceutical industry. After all, we all know that drug companies don't fight for extended patent rights to drugs that improve peoples lives. They are always real nice about making their "threshold" amount then releasing their drug(s) to generic and whole-saler manufacturers so that the majority of the people can benefit.
Sorry for this slightly tangent to the article. Most replies I have seen for this type of article all speak to the difficulties of developing for Linux and how easy Microsoft development is. I am not claiming to be some Linux-Guru ( or GNUru for that matter ), but I am learning. Having spent the last few years working as an administrator of both Windows and Linux machines, I have seen some of this shifting taking place. Having also been taking the last few courses for my degree in Computer Science, I have also seen the trend of the next generation programmers and I am not impressed. The majority want easy, simple, "something that does the thinking for them" type of software either to administer or develop with. Too many people jumped on the IT bandwagon when it was a quick path to wealth and stability. A small percentage of students in Computer Science today, of which I would be proud to be considered a part of, tend more towards the "old-school Hacker mentality" that is so missing today. Fully understanding the basics so that you can build up to the more advanced areas is once again becoming more important. Linux development is a prime example of where for many people the bar is too high, because they have never been challenged either in school or in their personal endeavors to learn their craft. I know my limitations, which I why I am more critical of myself and my limited skills than anyone. But, I am learning, and will always be learning so as to improve myself and my skills. Somebody will be able to develop the next generation applications. The question now, is will that be you? Simple answer, only if you prepare. Simple to say, much harder to do. The best things in life are not easy. And experience takes time, not a cram-session and a single exam.
Once I get my map together, I can track down those people I associate with who know other people I associate with without my permission. I mean damn people, who the hell said you could know each other without me, "THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!" introducing you!!!!!!
It seems to me that everytime I code for 6 weeks straight without going outside, that when I finally do go outside something seems to cause me great discomfort and pain. I am not sure what it is, its so bright out there. Hard to figure out what it could be with that damnable "day-star" burning the hell out of me.
I followed the Boycott link... interesting and well presented, but the part here:
IBM, please buy out SCO and take their so called UNIX intellectual property and make it public domain. Then terminate the employment of those who remained with SCO.
Seems a bit harsh to terminate rank and file employees just because they worked for SCO. Evaluate them individually, might be they are good people with valuable skills. It might be a small point, but it imediately turned me off to the rest of the message.
Hopefully the Lindows ordeal will make Microsoft less eager to challenge the use of "butterfly" in a domain name of a competitor. I do not know if Microsoft has a copyright on "butterfly" in regards to MSN, but they have spent a bit on advertising their "Friendly but Tough Butterfly" mascot for their internet service.
My favorite versioning technique is to save the piece of source that was so "Brilliant and Sweet" that I don't want to loose it, but for some reason just stopped working correctly. I usually save this as code_bugFucked.cpp and hope while I am cursing and rewriting it hope that the stupid error become obvious. Rewriting code from scratch after you understand a problem more fully can often yield better results. You can also rewrite it all only to find the problem was totally unrelated to the part you are rewriting!

Damn, if you just want to talk a woman will suffice... err.. oh wait, this is Slashdot...
Save robots for the meaningful stuff, like battlebots and cool stuff like that.

I am sure they will continue to support all Linksys products. It's not like anyone ever buys the competition just to kill them.
Just me, the Voodoo owner... yes yes... I can and will write my own freaking drivers *grin*

Just send a picture of yourself pointing at your empty bottle to the screen, get your next one quick!
Blue teeth are one thing in a bar... just don't want to see the other blue parts that might be hiding out in a bar late at night.
I mean gee whiz, not even Spiderman should be carrying around 11 million pounds in cash!!!
Why is 6 afraid of 7 ?
Because ( say it out loud ) seven, eight, nine !
Still funny!!!
It only took me 4 times in my second Calculus class to get a pass grade and get the hell out!!!

It is not ALWAYS about money.

Since the rural people might have to power these by "BICYCLE POWER" generators, the low power consumption might be a good thing.
Just like the Sith lords ( ie. bad guys ) always have a red light saber, and the Jedi ( ie. good guys ) have blue.
:) , only those who want power fast use the red lasers.
Easier, is the dark side.
It takes real skill and devotion to use blue ( or green
I'm all for NT 4.0 seeing as they how bad they suck, but it would be a bit funny if they said they ran BEOS or something like that *grin*.
Maybe a poll would be good,
option D. Cylons are just Cowboy Neal in Metal-Drag
