I would add two things to this, to be fair. First, the cost of XP Pro should be added (which will offer the same range of software and usability (sort of on usability) as OS X). Second, the keyboard should be of the highest quality you can get for a PC, as Apple keyboards are very well built.

But that's the thing...when you start discussing alternatives to the Mac Mini, you are implying that the features of the Mini, including its size, are a consideration. You're paying a premium for the small size, as you would pay a premium for the small size of a laptop. The Mini (and other SFF PC's) are a distinct line of products than regular towers.

It's the equivalent of comparing a compact car to a pickup truck, when your needs can only be met in the first place by a pickup truck. In which case, you should have been comparing various truck lines to one another in the first place.

We're pretty much addicted to Bloomberg since we use them for lots of other purposes (ie preferred stock analysis, regular equity analysis, MA transaction searches). We do valuations of privately held companies and largely use publicly traded companies as valuation guidelines. If you go to my website (see sig), I've got links to some publicly available projects I've worked on using Bloomberg and Excel; namely our dividend policy study and my voting stock premium study.

A really fun thing to do wit Bloomberg is to create marketing lists since they give you the names of corporate officers. The corporate officer list (and company address for that matter) are only available as bulk fields, but I figured out how to break them up to create mail merge fields. The only downside is that I still need a secretary to add "Mr." or "Ms." to the spreadsheets!

I'm probably on the Excel crack pipe more than most people here and I would never call anything I do with it "development." I'm just building different types of models for financial analysis. The most complicated stuff I do involves linking to the Bloomberg DDE server to download closed end fund data and running Crystal Ball (a commercial Excel add-in) now and then for Monte Carlo simulations. Furthermore, I only use Excel to store limited types of data, such as weekly dumps of closed end fund data.

When the crystal is subsequently heated, a very large large electric field is produced at the end of the tugsten tip, ~25 billion volts per meter. This field gradient is so high that it strips the electrons from nearby deuterium atoms. The ionized deuterium atoms then accelerated by this field towards a solid target of erbium deuteride (ErD2). They collide with it at such high energies that some fuse with the target. A measurement of almost 900 neutrons per second was observer. This is 400 times the background!"
