How would selling something at a loss help to offset investment? They sell it at a loss in order to spur sales, so they can sell the games. The money is made from the games, and that profit is what recoups the investment.
Sure, I guess you could say 'Well if they gave it away for free they'd recoup that much less', but the point is that they do not sell them at a loss in order to recoup anything. It is to drive sales, plain and simple.
You don't consider a major player in the industry adopting Linux support for its DSP's to be newsworthy? Interesting. Its certainly more interesting than articles posted about this or that new Distribution Du Jour.
A typical liberal who calls anything he doesn't agree with an 'attack on free expression'.
Why should it be incumbent on the victim of libel to fix things? It never should have happened in the first place.
Wikipedia is flawed as a credible source of information. It has its uses but its model is flawed if this sort of thing can happen. The damage to him is already done, and here you are saying that it was up to him to fix it? Strange logic.
You should be modded as insightful. The place to play is on your own machine. If you don't like the standards at your workplace you should find a new job. I'm all for running whatever works on the desktop, but it's the perogative of the *owner* of the hardware (in this case the employer) to decided what is to be run on it.
This reminds me of my teenager who has a habit of decided on her own that certain rules shouldn't apply to her so she'll just do as she pleases. Buy a machine and play with Linux at home. If you feel strongly about running it at work then propose it to your boss.
Yes, and we all know that designing video and other chipsets wouldn't cost them anything at all...I think you dropped your clue, you can pick it up at the Lost and Found.
That's the point, you won't miss the show if you've told your Tivo to grab it;) It's called a 'Season Pass', and it will pick the show up even if it is moved to a new time.
1) Go to library 2) Find quote(s) you are interested in 3) Photocopy said pages under fair use, or take notes the old fashioned way 4)... 5) Save money (profit?)
Hardly anybody is watching it for free over their air or cable TV. Why should this get anyone else to watch it? Their ratings keep sliding into a black hole for good reasons...
Get some facts...our unemployment is less than half that of most EU countries, and *despite* fuel prices our GDP is still steadily growing. The US economy is just fine.
I am not sure that anyone would care during war if end user wireless access goes. They aren't talking about replacing copper and fibre infrastructure with this. Those will remain.
Try replying to the right post. I didn't say RMS needed a shower. I was simply agreeing with the parent of my reply about the hero worship here. As another reply to my post put it, there is a difference between appreciating someone's accomplishments and worshiping them.
As for my accomplishments, I'm quite satisfied with them both professionally and personally. Maybe that's why I can admire others without worshiping them.
Not really in this case. It is common practice for console vendors to sell at or below cost, for reasons I already mentioned (i.e., game sales)

You forgot VMWare!
Um. Have you used Google Desktop? Have you looked at it, read the privacy policy, looked into it's 'Advanced Features'?
Oh. I didn't think so.

Gee, maybe you should go to the manufacturer's site for that kind of detail, instead of whining that a news article didn't publish tech specs.

But d00d, you know that Myth TV is far more l337 than Media Center!
You mean like that?
I think you misunderstood his point. The IPC gap that used to be hugely in favor of AMD isn't so big anymore. That was his point.
Diseases like West Nile Virus kill people every year in non Tropical climates as well.
I for one...oh forget it.

Someone has set us up the mailbomb!

DSL and it's variants are digital, hence the "D" for digital.

No, but it is the most important organ in college...in case you actually *did* let grandparent's joke go *whooosh* over your head.

Gee, who would've thunk it.
Apparantly Congress isn't. Then again they probably all already have LCD's.

It's a shame you were modded as funny instead of insightful, because you are dead right.
It's a manifestation of low self esteem really. Some people are sheep and *need* to have heros to follow.
