A prime number is a natural number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself.
That is how I remember reading and hearing the definition of a prime number. So judging the statement semantically, 1 is a prime because it is divisible by 1 (duh) and itself (which is 1).
This is exactly what I was getting at. The GPL does not allow for anything under it's copyright to propagate anything that would restrict anyone downstream (outside of GPL restrictions obviously!)
Linux is GPL'd code. Unless Nokia releases all of it's patents to everyone, this statement means nothing. The GPL does not allow for a sleeper patent attachment (one might say viral, oh the irony) such as this.
.. would drop you [sic] "entire" day...down to about 30 minutes..
yes, but how long would it take to make said image ?
i'd never read of slipstreaming until this thread but i imagine the process takes a couple hours at least. granted, in a business setting the upfront investment in time is well worth it so your argumentative point has merit within that particular context.
It's been like this since I started reading slashdot ('98 I think) and I assume before, get over it. It's Friday and it's April Fools, stop being a curmudgeon.
Empower \Em*pow"er\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Empowered; p. pr. &
vb. n. Empowering.]
1. To give authority to; to delegate power to; to commission;
to authorize (having commonly a legal force); as, the
Supreme Court is empowered to try and decide cases, civil
or criminal; the attorney is empowered to sign an
acquittance, and discharge the debtor.
Guess what - Microsoft's SmartTags were far less evil. Bullshit.
The website owner had complete control over the SmartTags.
And this is why your opening statement is bullshit. Google's solution empowers the user/consumer whereas Microsoft's empowered Microsoft and any it could co-opt into using Smart Tags.
What is even worse is how programs with splash screens tend to be Java, meaning this splash screen stays on top for many seconds, perhaps up to 30 seconds while the program loads.
Eh, not really. While not attempting to deny you the fun of yanking random opinions from your ass and stating such as facts, I would have to disagree; splash screens cover the spectrum of apps out there.
As to sucking, I generally disapprove of gratuitous splash screens but I really dig the apps that incorporate progress indicators such as naming modules being loaded or the ever-ubiquitous progress meter. Oh, and since the Gimp is a tool primarily for artistic endeavors, it would seem reasonable to show off a little work that can be done with the tool while said tool loads. I always look forward to Gimp's new splash screens.
Hello mister reviewer, you mentioned you consider yourself a writer. Well, I have something to show you; here is something you should have read. And if you have not read Strunk & White, please do so. Reread and refer it often. Reading that review induced my eyes to bleed... profusely.
I agree. The post is inflamatory at best. I just re-read clause 6 in its entirety and don't see the problem. But maybe thats because I consider a jar equivalent to a dll. *shrug*
i was forced to learn pascal in high school, and quickbasic in college. having learned and thouroughly disliked those languages i came upon C and was joyous. semicolons and bracers make sense out of one's code. but hey, it's just my opinion.
As a rule, people who bitch about whitespace in Python are the people who have never coded in Python.
Uhm, yeah. Isn't that what I said? And "looking the fool" is neither new to me nor anathema.
Sorry, but I really dislike languages where what you do with your whitespace is part of the syntax. It's a gimp requirement.

Sure, it is useless in general. But specifically useful to those living in China that can think for themselves and have a hard time abiding by their government's censorship.
forgive me if memory fails, but doesn't python require tabs or whitespacing in certain ways as part of its syntax requirements? i HATE that shit. i have a b.s. in physics, fortran is lingua franca among physicists, i refused to learn it (among other reasons) because of it's lame-assed spacing requirements. i think alot of other people feel the same way.
not to take away from your point, which is valid, just an aside picking on your particular choice of language for your example. =)

Also, the bug sounds more supernatural than realistic. Sure I haven't read the book but judging by the description I'd just as soon pass over it.
