I plan to live forever.
Based on my, so far very successful, plan to live forever it is a near certainty that it will hit the earth within my life time. That Bastard is messing up my planet!
Mint on the desktop. Debian on the server. Makes life easy.
They are alike enough that you don't need to relearn every time you need to do something, but philosophically they are different in ways that make sense.
Linux Mint (cinnamon) installs basically all the software you will need for a desktop, this gets you up and running quickly and easily.
On the other hand Debian installs just about nothing then you add the features and services you need. Making for a more secure install out of the box.
This is a winning combination in my book. I am even starting to get used to systemd.
People are not buying PCs for home use. People may have a PC kicking around, but MOST people are using an iPad or (more rarely) an Android tablet at home.
In business a computer is still needed. Most regular home users (Slashdot users excepted) do not need or want a PC at home, tablet device does everything they need.
Argue with me all you want, you will still be wrong.
If you ever wanted a road map to alienate all your customers Microsoft has provided it.
Personally, I gave up on them years ago, but if they keep going the way they have been, they will start driving mainstream users away. Is it any wonder the home PC market is nearly dead already.
Good luck with the licencing on that £5 copy of Office.
I would bet you have trouble with it.
I am currently contracted to a very large multi national company, I use LibreOffice on Linux to do my job everyday. I share documents with others, and never have any problems. In fact I have occasionally used LibreOffice to fix documents that MS Office had corrupted. It also opens a very large selection of file formats that MS Office will not open. As the project I am currently maintaining has been running a very long time, this is quite handy for some of our historic documents.
Is this more or less a game on paper to get an infusion of cash for Dell, or could this actually have an effect on the VMWare business where I should be prepared for a chance of VMWare dying off?
If VMWare dies, check out https://www.proxmox.com/ . Not a drop in replacement I admit, but a very impressive open-source VM server. Something to keep in mind for emergencies.
4. She overcharges you for the coffee and covers that fact by being extra-friendly so you'd only think of scenarios 1 to 3.
I had not thought of that. But as I am rather OCD, and thus naturally always order the same thing, and the price never changes, I think you might be off base.
People I deal with all the time I recognize by facial features alone, but I've had people come up and talk to me like we've met before and I have no idea who they are. That is usually only people I spoke to for less than an hour or so, except for people in memorable circumstances, like interviews.
I have this all the time. An example: I ride the train to work, and there is a woman I buy coffee from several times a week. She greets me like we are old friends, and I have no idea who she is, other than the coffee lady. I thought maybe she was one of those overly friendly people, but I have observed that she is not like this with all customers.
I have concluded that there are three possibilities:
1. She knows me from somewhere.
2. She has mistaken me for someone else.
3. She is really, really into me.
As I am old and decrepit, I would have to bet on 1 or 2.
Can we send all the "Religious Fundamentalists" from any and all religions.
In my experience Religious Fundamentalism causes far more problems than it solves. (I am not sure it solves anything.)
Of course they will probably start a "Religious War" not long after they get there. But I don't have a huge problem with that either.
I know several people who work in Law enforcement and this topic has come up a few times. They are all in agreement that there are a class of "Smart Criminals" out there who do not get caught, and are seldom, if ever, on the police radar.
We are not talking Super Villains here. but regular people smart enough to wear gloves, not talk about the crimes they committed, not go on a shopping spree the day after a major crime, and destroy as much evidence as possible.
It is a pretty low bar to be a "Smart Criminal".
It has been a VERY long times since I was a teenager. (An ungodly long time if I am honest.) But as I recall teenagers were never a particularly happy group. In fact most of the teenagers I knew were pretty depressed and moody most of the time.
Nobody had smart phones. There were no smartphones. There were no cel phones. Also, get off my lawn.
China has strict environmental regulation... but they only enforce it for foreign companies. The result is that a LOT of people are getting lung cancer which means they are mass producing subjects to experiment on.
Sounds like a win - win to me.:)
Why yes, I am a sociopath. Why do you ask?
Since I never jumped on the crypto currency bandwagon, it is kind of fun to watch the entire crypto currency ecosystem implode.

You can install the Windows subsystem for Linux.
You can wack yourself over the head with a 2x4 as well, but a discussion of the merits of 2x4 wacking, does not belong in this thread either.

Words can not explain how much I do not want this.
I know it is only Tuesday, but I am calling this as worst tech idea of the week.
Not free.
Damn cheap, but not free. I pay $75 a month. Also Americans could have decent healthcare if they would just stop being so stupid about it.
Damn, I need a raise.
Vancouver Canada, almost as expensive as SF.
You mean that wasn't Scarlett Johansson in that video I watched.
You mean that wasn't Scarlett Johansson I f___ed in that video you watched?
As I said before, you can argue with me all you want, but you will still be wrong. Take a look at PC sales the past 5 years.

That is a very cromulent point you made there.
Windows 11, for when you need that extra push over the cliff.

...you buy a key in good faith and that Microsoft validates it, hard to see how you can be considered to be in the wrong.
Have you never met a lawyer?
You can get genuine office for £5 on eBay.
Good luck with the licencing on that £5 copy of Office.

This is all well and good, but the real question is what was his score on Desert Bus.

But I my ego prefers to believe it is number 3.
... is a depressing rabbit hole.
You misspelled "shithole"
Maybe that was what Trump was trying to say...

Yes, it was irritating but worth it for the dancing hamster.
Is that a euphemism?
