A couple years ago I was working at a design firm that was part of the clean up process for downtown. We were not privy to details, but one of the plans for the WTC includes almost a "modern" Grand Central, that would be used to connect busses, ferry's, subway and PATH. Part of the plan included starting to set up an automated system, but it was going to be a gigantic job.
The Subways are huge, and old, and it's easy to forget that. Adding such a system is a huge undertaking. I bet we see the 2nd ave line first.
The L line is terrible. I have friends that live on it in Brooklyn, and they frequently can't into Manhattan on the week-ends, since that line is really the only way in or out (there is a bus, but it's SLOOOOWWWW). I predict that this is just going to lead to more troubles.
On the other hand, maybe all the hipsters in Williamsburg will just stay there...
If you look really closely during the fight scene where Vader takes out the Jedi temple, one of the Jedis in the background is actually a Domo Kunk, and he's fighting a kitten that looks like Drew Curtis covered in mustard, making jokes about soviet Russia and profits.
That reminds me- Remember the wizard that shows up in the clip of Triumph making fun of the Star Wars geeks? I was on the subway coming back from Coney Island one day last year (after the Mermaid Parade) and that guy was on the car with me
All I could do was chuckle to myself while he read proclimations from scrolls.
Better yet: Have them work on their more advanced systems that they have put years and years into, while kicking some money to the private sector so they can get up and running, and incorporate whatever the private sector comes up with.
in essence, NASA should create a "competitor". Not so much that they would be competing as much as chipping away at the same block from a different angle.
BUT, NASA has a lot they have to balance right now... the ISS, gettin gthe shuttle back up, replacing the shuttle, and now, thanks to Bush, look at getting back to the moon and Mars (I think they are worth while, just not the way Bush has laid them out)... let's not forget the rovers, too.
There is some amazing data that might get lost, but you pick some programs to cut from that budget, while being expected to further new programs...
Or maybe we could sell it to the ESA, or even GIVE it to them?
I worked at a small company that ran on Macs. Whenever we needed a new one, we would add it to this lease. We only had about 15 machines purchased over the course of about 4 years. Nothing top of the line, but adaquate for Photoshop and Illustrator.
When I left, the leasing payments were nearly $1,500 a month, which works out to almost the cost of a new machine.
I know a guy that was Vanessa's agent for a short time. She apparently really did have terrible, terrible skin (makeup and photoshop to wonders) and the Proactiv helped her a lot. I actually swear by it myself.
...is clean up their homepage. There is so much going on on I get scared just looking at it. Who can digest that much info? You almost need a search engine for the Yahoo homepage.
You raise a point- one of the worst natural disasters on record happened not three months ago, and we have people pledging money in the MILLIONS OF DOLLARS for a commercial TV show to stay on the air. Give me a break. What about 3 Million for education? Scientific research? Hell, even Iraqi freedom!
To quote Milo Bloom in response to Opus the Penguin spending $79 on shoes for walking in a mall: You realize this is why the Roman Empire fell
I did something like this once. Back in 2001 I worked at a company that had Internet Kiosks across Manhattan. I went to a cafe to upgrade a machine. There was a certain attractive young lady on the terminal when I got there. I called my manager (who was a friend) and told him it would be a few minutes before I could get on, and mentioned the cute girl.
He did a query of the database to get her name from the credit card she swiped. As she was getting up I said "have a good day, Jen". Scared the CRAP out of her until I explained how I did it. We are now married and have three lovely children
From my standpoint, the piracy fire has not been put out yet. Increasing the cost of music is just going to push people away from paying for music.

I bet it's more than that... your typical computer user is never going to need high-end graphics the way a gamer is (not until GUIs start taking advantage and interfaces change (think SphereXP). PC gaming is becoming similar to car racing as far as I am concerned. It's going to turn it into an industry for a small niche market. Watch games like Half-life go up in price to the $100 range in the next 5 years, as their margins drop and they become products only for this niche market of gamers that seem to have no problem throwing money at hardware/computers.

My good sir, this might be the funniest thing I ever read on /. well done.

It starts off like a traditional review, but their discussion of color accuracy is the best I've ever seen
You mean they use pr0n images for testing?

No no - Gelf magazine. Like an adult Gelfling, from The Dark Crystal. It's the magazine for those with the essence of life.
Why they are covering it is beyond me.
Dude, If Hillary Clinton sees this, you are totally fucked. You'll be in some mental ward within the hour.

Im a Linux Novice, and I managed to get this CD working in no time. Well done!
I've only played the demo, but expect this one to turn a few heads in 2005.
My company uses vonage... anyone else notice their service went out at around 3:00 EST? www.vonage.com went down, too.

He beat me to it! Guess I owe him a dollar.
I'm still looking for a publisher, actually. All the ones that I took it to originally have taken out restraining orders against me.
134 and counting, baby!

Ok, that last part isn't true.
Hey, the dartgun will go through Windows, too, assuming they write drivers for it.
this horrible pun brought to you by Monday.
