    I got an email from Yahoo that said that there would be something "special" on the homepage on March 2nd. Given the sucsess of Google, maybe they are going to do just that, give a simple homepage, with a new navigation system to all their differnet areas. The page is WAY too complicated to be useful to anyone as it is.

    XBox 3: The Controllers will have removable hard drives in them. They can also double as rumble packs that way.

    ... my continued holding out for one of these guys is paying off. $350 for the 30 GB iPod Photo is not a bad deal.

    But it just makes me want to hold off longer so I really get my money's worth.

    It didn't matter... as long as it had an order that carried out of my office, she would come running from where ever, seeing what I had. She never quite asked me for any. If she had, I would have killed her considering the hours I was forced to work and the low pay.

    Of course, then we got screamed at by her for not thinking and making more screw ups than normal.

    She was also more concerned with what I was having for lunch than what I was doing for the company.

    Content aggregation sounds like a great idea, but remember that cable companies have a lot of exisiting ties with the media companies that actually produce the content. Even if Tivo starts doing this, the second they turn profitable the cable companies will play their relationships (I've worked in entertainment... the whole industry is about the relationships) with the media companies to undercut Tivo and get them out. I like the idea of Tivo, but I think the company is fighting an uphill battle.

    I say they get bought by Comcast or Time Warner before the end of the decade.

    Hey, not such a bad idea. Here in New York I've set up Wi-Fi enabled laptops for friends and just had them piggy back on an open network... Just about anywhere you go in New York you can pick up at least a couple open networks (I once saw 20 at once). A friend of mine actually put a Wi-Fi card in his desktop and canceled his cable modem, and now he just piggy-backs off someone in his building.

    Better yet, move to someplace like Philly that is going to have free Wi-FI city wide soon.

    unless you have the budget of LOTR (which I don't think this movie has) making a CGI character look real is pretty hard.

    plus, if your character looks as simple as Marvin does, why not use a guy in a suit for it?

    I remember seeing something on the making of X-Men, and one of the designers said yellow spandex looks great in a comic book, but it looks stupid on screen.

    If you stick to the original at every instance, your final product might follow the rules perfectly, but not work as well. That's why they did the thumb thing... it looks good (IMO) and drives the story quickly. Anyone watching that will know that the thumb is a communication tool for hitchhicking, even if they don't know the books. It's an OK addition in my book.

    I await fanboy flames.

    Seriously... who IS buying all those DVDs? I go to the store to look at movies frequently, but more and more I'm just tempted to get stuff through NetFlix. There are very few movies that I actually want to own anymore. I just rent what I missed at the theatres.

    In 10 years, it's not going to matter, as On-Demand channels will start carying every movie under the sun.

    That's like saying a coke addict can quit with willpower. I fully admit that I have a computer addiciton problem. No amount of "willpower" is going to get me away from the computer. Posting on /., sending short emails to 20 different people constantly throughout the day and checking (but never buy) products from different websites gives me that little "jolt" of happiness every couple of minutes to get me through the day.

    My attention span has gotten to the point that I can't watch a half hour TV show anymore. Renting movies is pointless because I can't finish them. Books? Ha.

    It's all coming from my dependance on computers, and, since I work in computer related feild, getting away from computers is hard. Imagine telling a coke addict to quit when he runs a trafficing business. Never going to happen.

    Now, everyone reply to this so I'll have lots to read (and get my jolt) next time I check /., which will be in 35 seconds.

    I remember Jobs saying that we would never see an OS X port to x86 because Apple was a hardware company first, and then software...

    if he's changing his tune, maybe that's a sign that OS X could make an x86 debut?? (doubtful, but hopeful)

    mmm... yeah, PCs have dropped, but what about PCs that can produce the same graphics as one of these new consoles? I think the price for one of those is still going to be AT LEAST $500...

    I think consoles can go as high as $300, maybe $350 before they they need to worry about PC competition.

    I suppose that in the interest of competition, all three are rushing to put something "showable" together, regaurdless of how close they are to market. I'd take anything I see with a grain of salt, knowing that these consoles were probably go through some big changes between E3 and market.

    Doesn't this put SBC dangerously close to becoming a monopoly, not unlike what AT&T was, some 20 years ago?
