  1. From What I've Heard... on The End of Non-Widescreen Laptops? · · Score: 1

...from a Lenovo account manager that gave a presentation in one of my classes 6mos ago, they can't find the glass for standard ratio screens from their suppliers. If they can't find the glass from their suppliers, they can't really offer that product line. I'm assuming that Lenovo is finally retiring the line because they ran out of their inventory of standard aspect ratio glass for their screens.

There aren't any problems, there isn't any software to program, and because of that, there's no risk of having any software errors that cost you money! It's plain and simple.

By her logic, that's like saying that DRM is like putting a speed camera every 100 yards or so on every road in the country. It's not practical, and it doesn't work!

  11. #4???? on Space.com's Top 10 Space Movies of All Time · · Score: 1

How the hell is 2001 at #4? That makes no sense to me at all. Granted Apollo 13 was a great film to see at a drive-in (that's where I saw it for the first time) amongst the stars, it had a great effect of expanding the screen essentially. I can see Empire at #1, but there's no way that Apollo 13 should be above 2001.

Um...the Insight doesn't have that great of handling. If I remember right, teh Insight only had .77g of lateral grip on a 300ft-diameter skidpad test. That is a number that is usually shared with above average SUV's, let alone a car.

It seems to me that the idea of targeting desktop Linux users is a marketing ploy to a niche market.

However, you can already use a service like this. It's called AllOfMp3. You choose the format (MP3, WMA, OGG Vorbis, MPEG-4 AAC, MPC) and the bitrate (even lossless), and you're charged a penny per meg (well, 2 pennies per meg after Jan. 15).

I honestly doubt most of us would be able to operate an F1 car at all. You have to keep the engine revved above 6000 RPM or it will get too cold and die. You have to regulate the fuel mixture or it won't get enough of either air or gas and die.

How about launching the car itself? With the clutch on the steering wheel itself, drivers in any other racing series other than F1 have troubles. Ask Jeff Gordon when he drove Juan Montoya's ride last year @ Indy for the "Tradin' Paint" publicity stunt.

Well if it weren't for Mercedes bailing out Chrysler and doing all the hard engineering work for them, you wouldn't see rear-drive, Hemi-powered Mopars today. The rear ends are all Mercedes' work, and all they had to do was drop them onto their own platforms. Where does Mercedes get a bit of their tech. data from? Their F1 team.

  20. Watch out for the Evo... on Car Hacks & Mods for Dummies · · Score: 1

    1) The car's transmission is not exactly one of the most solid-built car components in the world. I know someone who had a GTI, traded it in for an Evo, had multiple transmission problems, sold the Evo back to the dealer, and got his GTI back. Another friend of mine has a Lancer Ralliart, which is the non-turbo, front wheel drive version with the same transmission, and he went in for his second transmission rebuild earlier this week after buying the car in June.
    2) Be careful with modding the Evo. There were stories in both Car and Driver and Motor Trend about Evo owners having their warranty violated because of modding and/or evidence of racing.
