So if I invest in a 3G-enabled phone, the quality of my service is at the mercy of masturbating perverts, and whether they keep up payments to these pornographic businesses?
I think I'll stay with what I've got, thanks.
Still, I guess the perverts will have access to 'better' content, if they're getting corporate sponsorship.
As long as pure capitalism reigns supreme, nothing can happen.
If capitalism is done away with then I don't really see any other way around it:
"Enough" will only be when the entire corporation is completely dissolved and the board of directors are banned for life from any further involvement in the technology industry. Of course, the companies vast reserves (including those of other business ventures run by Gates) will be siezed and distributed evenly between companies who have been burned by MS in the past, and benefactors of the Gates Foundation.
So they're reverse-engineering architectural features for the purpose of making replacement copies. I wonder if this falls under the jurisdiction of the DMCA?
Hopefully it would fall under 'fair use' as it is (reportedly) for backup purposes.
Not all of us have DivX either. True, but DivX is an open format. Quicktime isn't.
I suspect there are more media players that can handle DivX media than Quicktime media (off-hand, I can think of only two that support QT format: The hideously cumbersome "QuickTime Player" which is only available on two platforms, and mplayer (but only with various hacks applied))
Does anyone have these in a format other than Quicktime?
Something like DivX would be nice.

A good way to observe (well, simulate) some of these effects is to download lightspeed and have a play. Effects such as Lorentz contraction, doppler shift, headlight effects and optical aberrations can be observed. Very cool with the add-on Starship Voyager model.
There's also some very nice mpegs floating around the net of tram cars and flashing lamp posts in a world where the speed of light is slowed to a couple of meters per second. Now if only I could dig up the URL...
At no point do I recall being told of the day when my bottle broke in a pot of hot water, but I vividly remember looking up at my worried parents who were trying to find me another bottle. I was barely walking.
There is much about our minds that is not understood by current scientific schools of thought.
Uh, doesn't the fact that hotmail accounts that are unused get tons of spam suggest that they're not listening to their customers as much as they are selling their customer lists to spammers?
Since Micrsoft is trying to kill off gaming on the PC in favor of their DRM-friendly XBox, this could be a great opportunity for game developers to further their efforts in making games for the Linux platform.
Microsoft puts less effort into gaming in their PC software; soon windows no longer a viable gaming platform; people still want to play games on their PC's.
If they're told they have to buy another piece of hardware (an Xbox) to play their favorite games, why not suggest Linux?
... and watch, with blissful ignorance, as your freedom slowly erodes away...
What's the mile high club?
I don't totally disbelieve what you are saying, but it would help many ill-informed people if you would please state your source for this information.
My apologies, I did not realise this discussion was confined to the North American corner of the world.
Please show me where in the article it was stated that the issue was exclusive to the US, so I can avoid making the same mistake in the future.
No, a flag does not count.
When taxes are lower people have more money to put back into the companies that power the economy
This is only true as long as people actually do put it back into their local economy, not someone else's.
Buy local goods where possible; shop in locally-owned establishments (forget monolithic places like Wal-Mart and McDonalds).
Perhaps then we'll start seeing the gap between rich and poor narrowing.
It is unreasonable to require each retaler to file and keep track of all 50 states rules/laws/tax amounts.
I'm sure you are already aware of this, but I feel the need to remind you:
There are more than 50 states on planet Earth.

You really think freemasons (oops I meant stonecutters) might have something to do with it?

Don't worry. Slashdot karma is just a ficticious as the concept of karma in the cosmos.
Therefore, people buying the X-box then not buying any games is pretty devestating.
Not really. Even given that MS is selling the unit for less than it costs them to make it, you're still giving them money.
Say it costs MS $250 to produce an XBox. They then sell it for $200. If you buy it, MS loses $50. If you *don't* buy it, MS loses $250.
If you don't like MS, it would be much more devastating if you just didn't bother with the XBox and instead invested in a PS2 or GameCube.
...lifted the temporary stay on the California Supreme Court's ruling that Pavlovich can not be tried in California courts...
So... they negated a negation of a negation of ability to try the case?
No wonder lawyers get paid so much.

I assume you're not familiar with the concept of operant conditioning.
You don't know, do you?
It's tuesday, hence we hate the MPAA and live the RIAA. Or is it the other way around?
No, every day is "oppose entities/legislations such as the MPA*, RIA*, DMCA, Microsoft" day.
Please don't make the mistake that people oppose such evil forces based on fashion or a whim.
A computer without Microsoft is like ice cream without ketchup.
*LOL*, I love it!
Although, on a totally unrelated note, I do recall at one point in my life enjoying a little ketchup with my ice cream.
I fail to see what an openssh vulnerability has to do with the topic at hand.
Send him Linus to cheer him up.

What does AOL have to do with hotmail?
