That is so true, I saw a guy put a voodoo 3 in a p1 120 and it played Unreal Tournament! Ya i think it all comes down to the "It is new so I need it because It must be better and I can really tell the difference between 100fps and 120fps, i really can, i mean it" syndrome. Just like a friend and I were talking about the other day, people buys these new computers with 2.5ghz procs 512 ram, 120gig hd and they run word and read email. They could of paid $400 at Walmart and go everthing they would of needed.
Ya but how much longer are you going to be able to use that voodoo card? I have all sorts of friends with left over 3dfx cards and they have more problems then anyone I know, I know there are some people writing their own drivers for them now but these newer games seem to not be too friendly with the voodoo's.
Well said. I just finished my first year at a real college (NDSU). For the two previous years I was going to a community college in my hometown. Talk about black and white. I thought I hadn't graduated from high school for the first year. Any class you take at a 2 year school will require half the effort, half the time and will teach you about 1/4 as much as taking it at 4 year university. Plus the point about "Math with a calculator" hit the nail on the head. If you don't buy a TI-86, 89, or 92 you will not be able to take alot of these math classes. That is definitely what we spend most of our time doing, learning how to graph functions and things on the TI. There is one benefit of that though, if you teacher is a real dope and you get bored, you can install tetris or some other game on your calc, just sit in the back and wheeeew, that hour went by fast!
If you are farmiliar up to pathagorean theorms then I would recomend starting at either Trig or the first level of Calc. Being a EE major I have to take through Diff Eq. It is sad to think how far i have to go!. Well, Good luck man!
Ya, that one wasn't too bad, but I must say that season 6 as a whole was just too "Soap Operay" for me and everyone else I know that is a fan. My girlfriend and I just bought season 2 on DVD and that was really good. Up to season 5 it was good, 6 kinda stunk. They only have one more season then it is gone, and they decided to make Britney Spears a Demon in a few episodes next year. A plus I guess, more T and A to watch! Maybe Willow will kick the wica crap.
In North Dakota where, we had a total of 5 murders last year, they are installing cameras all over, privacy is gone in public. Noone really even put up a fuss either, strange. On a good note we just approved a law preventing all banks from selling any of your information. First in the nation from what I understand, to be approved in a proposition.
In the example I used, Audi's tech manuals cost well over an order of magnitude more than the "consumer" level manuals cost.
Well, do I need to even tell you why this is a problem? I don't ever deal with foreign cars, just the big 3 and their manuals aren't that much, about $100 a piece.
Yeah, thats a pretty common excuse stated by people who want to spout off and make people think they know what they're talking about
Senator Paul Welstone (D) MN had a press conference for the very purpose of pushing this issue yesturday. It just so happens he is running for re-election this year.
The manuals that we end users have access to have the very bare minimum of information to perform very basic maintennance on the car
You are right about this, that is why you make friends with a guy at a dealership and get access to the books with the info. 99%of end users don't need that information and shouldn't have it. It is just like computers, they just take it to someone who can fix it and pay the bill, then pretend to know what the guy is talking about when he explains what was wrong, (smile and nod). The information is out there if you want it, and you whining about an AUDI is just sad, BUY AMERICAN NEXT TIME.
After reading about 20 posts and noone else saying it, I feel I need to set the record straight.
1. These codes are available to anyone who wants them for very cheap, all they have to do is purchase a book from the manufacturer or from a dealer, I know I own 3 at home for OBD2 systems. OBD2 = On board diagnostics Second Generation
2. The car companies do not want to protect their IP, they make this information public to anyone, the real reason for this bill is that,
A. It is an election year and anyone pushing
this wants to look like he is out for the
little guy, against big corporations.
B. Backyard mechanics are complaining because
they have to re-invest in their education
more and more frequently now because
automotive technology is changing about
500 times faster then it used to. They
have to spend thousands to buy equiptment
to service the vehicals and they don't
want to.
The reason cars are much more complicated and computerized then they used to be is that the enviromental regulations placed on vehicals neccesitate them. These draconian laws force the big 3 to make their cars more and more complex every model change to keep up.
The problem with alot of people is that they just believe what they read. Don't ever do that. This law is political and nothing more. It is a waste of time that adds more burocracy to a fat cat.
Ya, I got two paragraphs into reading that link and quit, he doesn't site any of his sources, he could just be making it all up to bitch about the country that he doesn't understand.
Ok, Stupid error, I know we didn't stop the Nazi's twice, I was thinking Germany and wrote Nazi's, my bad. Still I want to see someone refute this argument i just placed forth, better yet would be another flame of the ignoramus I posted it to, hehe.
How many lives have we saved by intervening in countries that can't control themselves? Many Many millions. We stopped the Nazi's twice and prevented more killing on their part, pushed back the Japanesse an stopped their slaughters. Just in the last 20 years we helped stop fighting in Bosnia and saved many lives, Stopped ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, overthrew a dictator in Panama, stopped a madman from taking over the Arabian Peninsula and slaughtering many people.
When people like you say things like what you just said it makes me sick, you have no idea what you are saying and how good of a country you live in. Do you see anyone else going around the world to save so many people? I think not.
So if we don't keep up with our military hardware how are we going to be able to do that in the future?
Ya know, after thinking about this more I started to wonder if the DEMAND is even out there for these fast connections. Sure the schools want them but does anyone else? I know ALOT of farmers out there and not one of them has ever said that they wanted a better internet connection. Even people in the small towns that I have met don't want them. Maybe a few kids here and there and the town GEEK, but most people in towns I have been to don't seem to be making it a priority. Seems more like a political thing. Bring North Dakota into the 21st century type deal. I mean almost everyone can get Dial-up out there can't they? You keep hearing about all these companies trying to roll out cable and dsl that are going broke, and that is in cities, there is no way they are going to make it in the rural areas. I don't know. North Dakota is destined to fall off the map anyway. We aren't even on it for most people in the US
Ya, that is a problem in the western half of the state, some guys in Bismarck tried to get wireless going, they should of just put all the transmitters on the water towers, I don't think they could pull if off though, everyone their has DSL and Cable or Dial-up through BTI
I have been thinking about the statewide problem. I remember when Schafer said he was going to run t1's to every school in the state and spend a few million doing it. I thought, ok, way too expensive to lay cable to every small town in the state, there has go to be a better way. So you either use wireless or existing cables in the ground. Every small town obviously has a phone line and a power line running to it. Phone line is out, dsl is way to hard to get to everyone so that leaves powerline networking. I don't know too much about it but I hear it is offered all over. That would seem to make sense to me. Everyone already has the line running right into their house and all you would have to do is setup switches at the junction boxes from what I understand, teaching farmers how to use computers is a whole nother problem.
The sad part is places like ND, SD, MT, etc.. We are just too spread out, and to be honest with you 50 years from now most of the towns 500 will be gone. The people left could just get satelite internet. The Idea with the cell towers is pretty good though, those are everywhere around us.
You are up in Watford? Good deer hunting, I was offered a contract job up by there one time, in Williston I think. Installing about 40 pc's for a car dealership and setting up a simple little network for them, They only wanted to pay me $8 an hour and give me 3 hours driving time total to go from Bismarck up there. I told them to shove it. Some east coast company.
I'm in Fargo, grew up in Bismarck. This kind of stuff would be perfect up here. We actually can get wireless at T1 speeds for fairly cheap, around 50 bucks a month. It is so flat that there are no obstacles to worry about.
I work for a dial-up company now and most of our customers are actually from out of the towns, within local calling range. We tried wireless but it was just too unreliable.
ya, so does your microwave, your garage door opener, bluetooth, maybe one of your portable phones, and about 100 other things. You just gotta stay one steap ahead of the game, 802.11a, that works on the 5ghz garbage range. That is still pretty clean. Linksys just made a wireless networking product that works on 5ghz and gets 75mb/s... It is backward compatible with the 802.11a standard.
I don't remember the name but there was a big hacker conference (2600 type stuff) over in the Netherlands that had soo many guys using wifi that they maxed out the spectrum. They also raised a weather balloon with ethernet attached and did a bunch of other wierd stuff.
When I did tech support for Gateway I got a guy who worked for APC, he had a UPS on his Fridge, his microwave, his TV, his stereo, and his pc but forgot to protect his phone line, Lightning struck by his house and took out his modem, along with his mobo. After he told me all that I laughed so hard he hung up, I wonder what ever happened to him, hehe
How am I ignorant? If you are going to say something like that at least back it up with reasons. How do you propose we heat our homes? Generate our electricity? Power our vehicles? Should we all switch to solar and wind, watch our electricity bills go up by 4 or 5 times? What about the poor people who can barely pay their bills now? How are they supposed to come up with the money to pay for your mandate? Let me guess, you are obviously a liberal so I guess you want the government (the people) to pay for it.
I encourage people to critique my posts and argue my points, but when someone just calls me ignorant and wrong but doesn't say why that is just poor taste.
Environmentalist have been saying that we were going to run out of Oil for years, yet right now in the Gulf of Mexico drilling sites that were previously out of oil are re-filling themselves, allowing us to pump out more for next to nothing. Every time the price of oil goes up more becomes available because it is economically feasable to drill it and sell it. There are HUNDREDS of capped oil lines where I live (North Dakota) because it isn't feasible to pump it up unless oil is around $25 a barrel, if oil was to go up that high you can bet they would be outthere sucking it up.
Many of you probobly don't know that during WWII Nazi Germany found a way to make Oil from Coal at around $40 a barrel (changed for inflation) we have enough coal in the ground to last 500 years.
Now this really isn't that big of a deal, because in 30 years it is predicted that most cars were be electric/fuel cell driven, we won't need gasoline for our cars/trucks. In their homes they can use electric heat, they have numerous geo-thermal plants that generate an enourmous amount of electricity cheaply.
Infact the entire theory of where oil comes from is under attack, Hyrdocarbons were thought to come from decaying plant matter in the ground but some scientist now think they come from methane deposits in the earth, methane is one of the most abundant gasses in the earth's mantle.
Don't take this for much, it is just crap. Just like the rest of the environmental jibberish
1. Not to worry because no matter how hard you try you will withdraw from some or all of you classes at least one semester due to
A. Counter-Strike/EverCrack/Mist
B. Excessive Binge drinking that
carries over to the middle of the
week, and by then you realise you blew
that hole week so might as well
keep drinking until you sober up the
next wednesday, repeat...
C. The fact that you thought it would be

semester
2. Yes the people in the dorm room next door can hear you, and yes they know you are a screamer/moaner/barker, etc..
3. If you really try hard enough, you can live soley off roman and beer..
4. Don't worry if you switch majors 6 times your freshman year, it is normal everyone does it, then they stick with that last major until they are about halfway through their senior year and decide to switch again and they realise none of their credits will transfer except "Dress in world cultures" and "Modern Feminism" (everyone has to take those classes, they don't make you take english anymore, just look at my spelling)
I own the Black Hydraulic case reviewed by Tom. Overall it is an "OK" case, I wouldn't recommend it though, the internal hardware is way too cheap, and I had to become a contortionist to fit 4 harddrives, 5 pci cards, 1 agp card, 4 sticks of ram and two processors in there. Granted it is a mid-tower. Modding is pretty easy, i had to carve a hole in the side to put in an extra fan, and one in the back. Overall beware, for $36, you get what you pay for...

Fark parties are just a big get drunk fest, not saying that /. parties won't be :)
Here in Fargo, ND it will probobly just be everyone that shows up at the 2600 meetings.

Didn't see a damn thing in North Dakota
Didn't think I would anyway, but had to look
