  1. Not a Sony Game on BioShock Installs a Rootkit · · Score: 2, Insightful

Why is Sony being blamed again? This isn't published by Sony. It's not on a Sony system. In fact, it's a direct competitor with no indication of cross-platform coming in the future. The article doesn't mention Sony until the comments. Does no one on /. play games?

Agreed, the challenge is missing from the new one. It's boring and EA-ified. We went back to B3 and got more life out of it, and we played it nonstop last year!

...or they don't want alternate drivers being written to REPLACE the ones they already created. For example, the Linksys Win2000 drivers for my dad's wireless adapter were crap. I would have installed those in a second.

However, I'm not sure what disadvantage this would have if they don't have ads in the drivers (ala Gaim/Trillian over M$N/AIM/Yahoo). I'm sure the lawyers could come up with something though.

However, I do believe it's an all-or-none scenerio, you have to get off of everybody's list or they will just propogate you before you can remove. If you're going to try and remove, hit those unsubscribe links/emails as soon as you get the message!

No you don't. An ISP never has as many IP's in their pool at they have customers. They only have to keep as many as they will ever have connected at one time. With cable and DSL that's a higher percentage than it used to be with dial-up, but it's excess cost to keep an IP for each customer.

Think of Gmail: no way does Google have a gig of storage for each account. They know about how much each person is really using, then just keep ahead of the total usage.

I do the same thing with account quotas in my lab. If everyone used the full amount, we'd be use 7 times what we have, but we're currently at less than half capacity!

I would like to point out that the 356, the original Porsche, was NOT a sports car. It was actually really cheap when it came out. It evolved into more sport with the 356 Speedster, and eventually turned into the 911, Porsche's first real sports car.

The 356 is remembered as a sports car because of the history that it spawned, and because of its good qualities in handling, etc.

Also, autocross racing demands tight cornering and acceleration, the two most improved aspects of automobile performance.

Haven't the last 3 games been "the all-new, revamped, never before seen, you won't believe the difference" Tomb Raider? The only thing that sucks more than the beaten-to-death gameplay is the sad attempts to rekindle it.

I think the next /. poll should be "worst undead franchise". I suggest Lara Croft, Star Wars, and (I know you disagree) Matrix.

However, I decided to go ahead and return the one I have. Turns out my workplace gets an employee discount at Apple, so I may save a little money!

So I purchased a Gen3 15GB iPod from Amazon less than 30 days ago. I'm thinking about returning it, then ordering a Gen4 20GB as soon as it's listed. The one I've got is in perfect condition, other than a minor scuff on the wheel (I'm anal, so most wouldn't even notice it). I don't really need more space or the different controls, but the "shuffle playlist" and longer battery are nice, as is the included USB2 cable.

I can't decide. Is it worth the hassle? Would Amazon do it, or am I out of luck?

The first game I bought for the NES was Batman (based off the movie). That was in no way the first game based off a movie, nor was it as the beginning of this "trend". LucasArts wouldn't exist as it is today if they didn't make movies into games.

The trend to make games from movies has been around about as long as we've had games at home.

Yes, they are a hardware company. And the best way to sell hardware is to make it the obvious choice. If Apple released MacOS for x86, they have the opportunity to win over customers with less than $200 instead of $3000. The choice of machine is obvious once they're already on the OS, the hard part is getting them there.

It's like releasing iTunes to the general public. If you get someone using iTunes as a media player, then that's one more BIG reason to buy the iPod over Brand X. If you have to own the iPod first, iTunes is just another proprietary app.

If you want to stare at all those at once, plus every other model, the environments setup stuff, and THEN start your project you might want to check yourself into a clinic.
