    As a Mac user, he recognised what my machine was but had no software that he could install on it. What a shame. He then hung around asking me questions about OSX while I made sure I could get to my email servers, various websites, ftp servers and while I pinged a few game servers. Security through obscurity wins again!

    you've got that WAY wrong. Jobs WAS forced out, and always provided an ambition and a strategy for what an Apple product COULD be. His reverse takeover at Apple is a thing to be marvelled at - and Apple's strategy toward conventional business practice is perfectly expressed in the .mac "debacle". Rather than destroy a highly functional suite of internet services because it's losing the company money, simply charge users for it so the thing can at least LIVE. Innovation is alive and well at Apple, and long may it remain so.

    who cares if you don't actually get 1000M (that's MEGA) bits per second? Even if you only get 300Mbps, you're still cutting your file xfer time by two thirds. Our Gig E setup gives between 300 and 400Mbps usually, and we fucking LOVE it.

    Sorry, you seem to be correct. I just checked dabs.com (where I normally buy my parts) and the fastest Athlon XP they've got in stock is the 1.8Ghz 2200+. Still, back to the original point, this is WELL OVER the 1500Mhz threshold. That means Motorola are "only" 550Mhz behind AMD! woohoo!
