    when I learned that I needed to buy the boxed windows version to play the Linux version I went to my local HMV had no problem finding the game, took it home ran the linux install from the web site and spent the next couple of weeks enjoying a really cool game.
    It worked first time, was interesting, different and engaging.
    Perfect learning curve, envolved the longer you played and well worth the money.
    Its a pity that HMV will rack it up as another windows sale :(
    And the retro winks really added to the experience

    I have a Sony 14" Tv from 1991 that is still going strong.
    I had it just to use my Amiga 500, now it is used for gamecube.
    And just for the record I hate Sony for killing the Saturn and Dreamcast and for high priced incompatable hardware and lack of imaginative games.

    Even before tabbed browsing I would often have well over 10 browser windows open, if they measure what I have open for the time the window is open then they will get VERY scewed results.

    Also I have two monitors so windows in the foreground do not always translate to windows I am focusing on. (also high resolution monitors could produce the same effect)

    I wish them luck becuase they need it.

    The odd Sega Seaman voice activated game(!?) used to know all the major dates (although mainly USA based) and your birthday, if you told him correctly in the first place.

    offer the asverage consumer two computers for the same price, one slow but secure and the other noticably faster and booting windows or opening outlook and they will (unfortunately) choose the later.
    I for one, run a dual screen machine quite happily on an AMD 1.2Ghz machine but then linux lets me do that and securely.

    and what about at the other end ?
    If an attacker has access to a router beyond your isp/backbone but before the signals reciever then the contents can be subverted.
    Admittedly, if all you do is argue about the sports scores then there is not much risk.
    But if you were using VOIP as a transparent replacement to POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) and were ordering a new car or dicussing your new pin number with the bank then things are quite different.

    if you have 0wn3d ANY of the routers between the target and the host then you can sniff/redirect any traffic you wish, including the return packets from the target to the host, sort of man in the middle (but technically thats different).

    once apon a time I worked with apple support UK when the iMac was released.
    We soon started getting calls about the built in modem not working.
    Turned out the modem was set to find a US dial tone and couldn't on a UK phone line.
    We contacted Apple head office UK to get a resolution.
    Their resolution, tell customers to download a fix from the internet...
    via the non-functioning modem.
    "No problem we will send the fix via snailmail on floppy disk"
    Small problem iMacs do not come with floppy disks...

    you are talking about the Vx scene 10 years ago when viri were not afraid to decimate your hard disk, they just waited a short time before doing so.
    The infection spread regardless of how they treated the host (after atleast one copy was made).
    Most viri back then were transmitted by floppy disk boot blocks.

    interesting, I find it more easy to read (though I do admit maybe I went a bit overboard this time).

    I also enjoy putting brackets around unnecessary conditional statements (various languages), ignoring the rules of precidents.

    for instance the above sentence makes sense with out the additional information the brackets.

    but the additional information helps a reader understand further, that I was talking about langauges.

    I tried taking all the bracketed information out of article and it still makes sense.
    the parenthsis is there to help the reader but only if they want that help.

    It does say what LPI stands for just a bit further down,
    It is (currently) the only (up to date) printed guide for the Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) Level 1 exam.

    I had to get enough information about the LPI that the book would make sense and vise versa, it was tough to juggle.

    just a quick note:
    I have never coded in Lisp, Java is my prefered language, but c,c++,perl,python and a few others do contribute now and then.
    Nor have a written anything for publication before, maybe I need a proof reader.

    I did pass the two exams making up the Level 1 certification (Still waiting for certificate).
    Compaines in the UK do not appear to be interested in the LPICs at the moment.
    But the US and else where seem to be slowly picking up on the value.

    Meanwhile, people will get one of the new players, record the movie off the video output, redigitize and distribute. It is easer than smuggling a video camera into the theatre.
    except when analog connectors vanish completely and digital ones are full encoded.
    Have you ever tried recording via a video camera pointed at a TV screen ?

    I will buy this the moment its released on Linux, I played the demo on a windows machine at work and loved it, just the right level of difficulty.

    This would be a great game for the more capable handhelds like the new Nintendo DS or old GBA.

    I do agree the jump system could be easier, but its still fun

    A rather fun program that has been running in the uk for a while is "Brainics", attempting to bring science to the masses in a fun and usualy explosive way, setup the following.
    An old caravan heavily satuarted with petrol (insuring lots of fumes were trapped) with 6 mobile phones.
    These mobiles were all called at the same time and live camera inside the caravan clearly showed them ringing, flashing , vibrating.
    The presenters expected a big explosion, but nothing.
    To rectifiy the issue of poor TV, they had one guy, dance in a shell-suit within a plastic bowl who then touched a bare wire attached to the inside of the caravan.
    Static electricity wins the day !
    of course this was not really scientific but fun to watch none the less.

    The current fix for the flickering is

    in the X config file..

    Option "HWCursor" "0"
    Option "SWCursor" "1"

    but some (read 1 so far) have reported that they then get redraw artifacts in openGL apps.

    I have a very happy 2560x960 X/KDE setup accross two monitors using a FX5700

    ecco _ defender of the future best game ever bar none !
    Played if from begining to end and I have never found any other game that gives such a feeling of emersion and mood.
    Music 10/10
    graphics 10/10
    game play 10/10
    Only thing it did not have (and did not need) was replayerbility.
    I remember bringing it to work over xmas with a VGA box and showing some shmuck who had brought in his playstation2 and ssx
    He was blown away, i thought he might bin his ps2 then and there !
    of and the controls were very intuitive as well.
    Anything bad about this game? hmmm maybe the last level was a little to hard but the difficulty level throughout was good.

    I never did get the football game cheat to work :(

    I was dissapointed when two thirds of the way through the book ended (it was a small paer back to start with) the last third was notes etc.
    But regardless it was a fun read, turned a few heads on the train ;)

    if you want me to work on B then I can not work on A, do you have the authorisation to stop me working on A if so I will work on B otherwise seek approval.
    They then usualy can not get approval and I work on A until it is completed or not a priority.

    How long before someone fudges the kernel source to just work on single processors then?
    That would sort out most home users then SCO can charge busineses liciencing to use the multi-processor code.
    'corse that still screws over the universities running clusters of quad CPU machines.
