I have seen lots of in game footage on various review programs in the UK and the quaility seems far better than just a well setup camera, lighting, studio etc. It looks like direct feed from the console. Now my first thought would be that the manufacturers are distributing videos to promote their product but often the reviewers are talking as if the action on screen is directly resulting from their actions. is it all just fake ? or do they all have dev kits with direct video out ?
With current "grayed out items" I know I have not completed all of the required steps to make use of that feature. So I check the help/google and jump through all the necessary hoops and make use of that item, easy.
in the glide world I will not even know that function exists so never try and change what I am doing to make it available. I just assume that the glide app does not provide the feature i need.
In an ideal world all the possible features/options I want to use will be painfully obvious based on the steps I have taken so far but this world is far from ideal.
I just hope that either the apps never have much functionality, in which case I will not need to use it or there is a "show me grayed out items" button (that is itself not grayed out)
so let me get this straight, if you have a TV connected to a MCE system and XBox360 connected to another TV then you can view apps running on the MCE system ? Why not just look at the other TV ?
To nit-pickers, when I say TV I mean any video output device.
I am not sure the Slashdot community is respective of the console buying community judging by the percentage of posts on GAME marked articles vs the main stream geek culture topics. That said how many people are going to vote (in a fun poll) for "NEVER" just becuase its Microsoft ? I am most did but I definitely getting one early next year after the price drops.
One of the big problems with AJAX is surfers will not know that content is being refreshed. If I visit a slow non-AJAX web page and click a button I can see that the request has been sent for the page and often something will come back pretty soon, like the page title to let me know that the server is producing the content (hopefuly) followed by the new page content. If a non-AJAX web page fails i.e. a server timeout or internal error then I get an error. With AJAX the programmer is going to have to impliment a BUSY and ERROR GUI interface for ever app and every surcumstance, and my guess is most will be to lazy to do so. Bye bye user experience unless you run big ass servers with loads of developers/support like maps.google.com
zenmoo you could only win by doing nothing but by doing nothing you almost certainly lost. I still treasure the telnet log that shows my entry in the top 10
I was using my laptop to transfer old CDROMs onto an USB hardisk and the unit was getting so hot the disk when ejected almost burned the skin. I created a lego four sided wall (four blocks high) just smaller than the base of the laptop and added lots of holes, the heat was reduced tremndously.
I used to write assembly code on the Amiga on 68000 10+ years ago. When I started writing 8086 (pc assembly code) all my executables were detected by antivirus as infected (i think it was FProt).
Turns out that my prefered location of storing data in my code looked like it was a virus burrowing its way into legitimate code.
So considering the number of people that code and the amount of code that is out there in the wild how the hell would you ID good code and bad code ?
another case in point I downloaded tiny VNC onto a windows machine and AV blocked the install. (that was the auto installer, downloading the ZIP and manually extracting worked fine.
I do have a the same linksys WAP with a winXP SP2 laptop and it works fine.
So if this was me I would try knoppix as a live CD, but be aware you may need the driver files for the wifi card on USB drive or a mountable drive. I run this on an old PC cos I am not ready to wipe the Harddrive yet, just saved the windows drivers to usb and set knoppix to save my settings to said usb drive each time I use the machine.
if windows finds the AP but you do not get an IP try entering one manualy and THEN PINGING the router, it is quite different to says I can not get a valid IP vs I can not connect to the internet ! IF you can ping the router then check the DNS/routing table.
Although I can understand them not wanting to market this to average consumers, why not offer it to geeks for a higher price ? I for one would happily pay more than $100 for a $100 laptop just for the geek factor. Not to mention the free qa service they would get !?
all the encoding I have done of the last two years has been to ogg. why not make all this plays ogg compatable, the cost can not be much comapred to implimenting wma or even mp3 ?

so it only says "Watching Film" to other xbox live users what is to say it does NOT say "watching dirty film" on the mircosoft servers.

use JavaScript to poll the server, when you get the response that a new page is available use standard Javscript to update the Iframe.
good thing everyone has static IP addresses and spoofing is impossible in email ...
problem solved, this issue of trust is a problem in SMTP, TCP/IP and even the physical wires !
