I quite agree. Evolution is no more science than creationism and it's every bit as much a religion*. Both sides have a bias on how they look at the evidence around them and both sides use scientific evidence to try to back up thier beliefs based on what? their ideals. Both sides accept those ideals by faith alone. Evolution is a General Postulate. It's not a scientific law.

*Religion - A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe. - The Randomhouse Dictionary.

Science is the persuit of truth whatever it might be, not the pursuit of truth as long as it fits our ideals. This is a concept the creationists have excepted because it was from them I learned it in the first place.

  4. I think it is a right. on Playing CDs a Privilege Not A Right · · Score: 1

If I'm hearing music for free legally on the radio then it is a privalege. But, if I have actually payed money to purchase a physical CD then I think it then becomes a right. And if I choose to play it in a computer and the CD won't play in that particular computer for whatever reason then I want my money back. My player of choice might not play the CD but it sure will play a downloaded MP3. And once I've downloaded the MP3 I can make my own universally playable CD.

What the music industry needs to understand is if they want people to buy and not download then they have to make it cheap and compatible. Otherwise I can make it free and compatible and not bother with paying for it.

And, I've said this a thousand times but... CD sales don't suffer because people are downloading the music. CD sales suffer because people have heard the songs twice every hour for the past 6 months on the radio for free. They are sick of it so why would they pay for it? It makes good songs crap because people get sick of them, and it exposes crappy songs (which most are lately) that people aren't going to buy anyway. I guess you could say it warns them before they pay. Furthermore most music these days isn't worth paying for. It hasn't been for a while.

Extended warranties are worth it. I use to work the tech bench at best buy. Trust me if it were a rip off I wouldn't give it a second thought. For sometihng cheap like a printer I'd say don't worry about it. You can get a printer for $30 at walmart. But, for a high dollar item like a PC, big screen TV, appliance or some high end car stereos I wouldn't buy those without an extended warranty. I've seen plenty of customers come up to the desk with something a year and a half old that broke and they had to shell out some major cash to get it fixed because their warranty is run out. That happens once and it's payed for itself. And I'm not sure about other places but I know at best buy if it breaks more than 3 times and you have the extended warranty they will replace it. Not only that but when it runs out you can renew it! True it's mostly profit. Without them they couldn't stay in business. But saying they aren't worth it is pure bull crap. Lets see someone pay $8000 for a big screen plasma tv and have to pay to fix it in 1.5 years and see if he doesn't think $100 extra for the extended warranty was worth it.

There are some that have reached the rank of IT manager without having any actual skils. Still also there are IT Managers that depend on the Human Resource staff to hire IT professionals. The idea is that these people are so unskilled at what they are hiring for that they must rely on the cerifications to make their hiring decision. Now I for one agree with you. All a certification tells you is that I payed the money and took the test and happen to do well on it. It's a piece of paper. Example. Many years ago I worked at Best Buy as a computer tech. This was before I obtained my A+ certification. Why did I wait so long? I thought it was pointless. There were several A+ certified techs there that broke computers on a regular basis and didn't know their butthole from a hole in the ground. When they did break computers I had to go behind them and fix them. After that job I know people would be looking for that certification as pointless as it is. So I got it. I agree though that education and experience mean far more than certifications ever will.

  8. Re:Here we go again... on Equal Time For Creationism · · Score: 1
If matters of faith have no place in the schools then evolution should be removed. It is not only unproven but unprovable. By it's very nature it is nothing more than a faith with no diety. I am a Christian myself, and also believe Jesus is the way to salvation but the assumption that creationism is religion while evolution is science is dogma at it's finest. Science is the search for the truth, no matter what that might be, not the search for the truth as long as it's evolution. I'm not trying to get in to debate here but if you want to keep science and science only in the class room that's fine. Teach pure proven science like the laws of thermodynamics which conflicts with puddle-to-people evolution and let students make their own decissions, otherwise both models of origin should be welcome. After all no one is suggesting we teach which God made the universe or that students should worship him, but that we teach that there may be an intellect behind it's design. Are we so worried about people getting offended that it's ok to offend someone who belives in creation by teaching an opposing view, but not ok to offend an evolutionist by doing the same? The truth is both sides see the same evidence with different points of view and their reasoning comes to a conclusion based on the assumptions associated with that point of view. How bout some videos.

    http://www.nwcreation.net/media/astronomy_and_bibl e.wmv

    http://www.nwcreation.net/media/astronomy_and_bibl e.wmv

Now bear in mind these are creationist videos. Most people on here will instantly reject them because they have a strong faith in what they believe. You and I on the other hand look at them with an open mind because we believe in God and have no doubts that there is evidence of his handywork. Also, There is a difference between creationism and intelligent design which has been mentioned before. Creationism is specifically a mostly Christian area of research. Intelligent design can be but it doesn't have to be, it's more along the lines of it can be God, It can be "the force" but in any case it's an intellect larger than our own powerful enough to create the universe. Also there are plenty more but I think these are the best and I didn't post the ones in realvideo format. The quality is terrible and we all know real video is crap. But, if we want to stick to what the first ammendment has become, that the government shall not respect the establishment of any religion, then evolution counts and the government should not respect it's teachings. If it does than equal time is fair.

  15. i'm not fond ot the ACLU on The Pseudoscience of Intelligent Design · · Score: 1
First of all if any of you knew what Creationists truely believe you'd see that the fossil record does support creationism. The difference is that both camps view the world with their own set of assumptions and beliefs. We both have the same facts we just assume different things about them. Therefore to both camps the facts seem to fit our view of the world. Which is why we can argue for hours over the same facts and not understand why the other can't see it our way.

Second of all, Seperation of Church and State is a myth. The first amendment does not say that there is a seperation of church and state nor does it disallow government agencies from acknoledging an all mighty God. It says:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

it does not say that the government employee or agentcy can not mention or acknoledge a creator.

Therefore, since schools aren't congress and teaching creationism isn't passing a law respecting the establishment of religion and could be considered free exercise and free speech then it is NOT unconstitutional. The first amendment is not vague. It's plain english! The ACLU should change their name because restriction the rights of the majority of americans their constitutional right to free exercise of religion and free speech is no way protecting civil liberties.

Furthermore i'm offended that this would be slashdot worthy. Not only by the content but also by the assumption that geeks must be athiests. I for one am not. I not only believe in a mighty creator but one of mercy and love who gives his mercy freely to anyone who would come and take it, and his love to everyone unconditionally.

  16. marketing. on What Ever Happened to Virtual Reality? · · Score: 1
Simply put, the word "virtual" stopped making money. It was attached to so many things that weren't virtual reality that the market for the buzz word peaked. For example all the "virtua" games for the Genesis. None of which were actually virtual reality, just 3D video games. The word was overused. Just like the "low carb" craze. It peaked and is now on the decline. It was just a fad. I'm sure in many forms the technology is still there. But the only time i've ever been able to play a virtual reality game was at the mall and there were 2 games. $5 a pop to either walk and shoot things or to box in an environment I could barely see or control that lasted only a few minutes probably had it's toll on the industry as well. I think also it's simply a case of the technology didn't meet the requirements of the concept. The equipment was cumbersome, the graphics were sub standard and the controls were difficult to use because the experience took too much processing power to implement given the technology that was around 10 years ago.

By the way also there is a sorry excuse for VR at Six Flags over mid america. You have no control over it at all. You're just told to scream at certain times. your controls have no bearing on the outcome of the experience. You're just watching it basicly. I was disapointed that I payed money for it.
