  1. Well heck.. on UN Says Tasers Are a Form of Torture · · Score: 1

Why don't we just ask criminals nicely to surrender and stop their attempt to run away. We could use mean looks and stare at them angrily. If they don't comply we can repeat our request for them surrender and add the words "or else". Ever see the movie "Demolition Man"? We could even shine flash lights in their face. That'll stop them! I don't support cops tasing grandmothers in wheelchairs. However, I'm amazed at the liberal compassion for hard criminals. There's a reason why it's called law enforcement. They must be armed in a manner which will enable them to neutralize their aggressors, or they will be of no use. That might actually cause pain to the law breaker. But we can't let the man who just raped an 11 year old girl experience any pain while we try to stop him from running away, no, that would be torture.

  4. Annoyingly different on 90% of IT Professionals Don't Want Vista · · Score: 2, Insightful
Vista is annoyingly different than XP. They've moved and renamed common windows folders with no reason, they've taken the menus off the windows. And while you can put them back on a) menus have been a fundamental part of the gui interface for like 30 years. People are going to miss them. and b) Grandma isn't going to know how to put them back. On top of this the windows classic theme does not resemble XP, it resembles 9x/2000!!!!! Again, if grandma got her first computer with XP this is going to confuse her. The lack of an XP like theme is bogus.

Also, why is it necessary for a computer to ask my permission 4 freaking times to create a folder? How is that more secure?

I probably didn't like the changes in XP when it first came out. But I've had a few years to get use to them, and they weren't this annoying. I'm in no hurry to upgrade to 2 gigs of RAM and install Vista any time soon in 256 colors because I can't find a video driver. I'll stick to XP for now.

Most of that stuff is to be expected. Also you can use sound recorder to record as long as you want. Just record a 60 second blank wav file, paste as many of them together as you want, Set it back to the beginning of the file, record what you want, then delete all the blank sound after the end of what you recorded. Very handy since Sound Recorder "hears" every sound your computer makes and some of those sounds have a DRM or are only available through a streaming webcast. Now, as far as having no windows on a PC thats dumb. Grandma isn't going to want to load an OS after she gets home with her $400 HP she bought at Walmart.

The 24th century was left wide open in the trek universe. DS9 was left open ended and so was TNG. Even though Nemesis was not the best movie ever it was still left open ended. They have enough open endedness in the 24th century to make an awesome sequel before they go backwards. A movie including the return of Sisco, Riker on the Titan, the return of Odo, a peace treaty with the Romulans and Data being resurrected through the memory transfer with the B4 unit would all make a great movie even if Patrick Steward thinks he's too big for Picard's britches. There need not be any Enterprise involvement if we had all this in a movie. That is unless we're going to be given a Star Trek:Titan TV show. Now I'd watch that.

When did I say God didn't allow bad things to happen? As for the nut case groups like the KKK it makes little since to say you hate racial groups like the Jews and then say you're based on Christianity when Jesus Christ is a Jew. And when the bible says that there is no more Jew or Gentile for we are all one in Christ. Racism is a very anti-biblical concept.

  21. Re:It wasn't religion, it was Islam; on Two Ways Not To Handle Free Speech · · Score: 1

I my self being a Christian but not a Catholic will admit although I love my Catholic brothers and sisters there are plenty beliefs we disagree on.

Baptism for example is an act of obedience acknowledging publicly that you belong to Christ, not the washing of any sins. Christ washes all sins when you repent and claim him has Lord. Without the initial faith in Christ you're just getting wet. There are also many ceremonial acts that I find not necessary.

As for Muslims yes, a tenent of the muslim faith is that you get to heaven by preforming more good deeds than bad. When you die if your good deeds outweigh your bad you go to heaven. There is no way to erase your sins unless you die in a Jihad. You then get to go to heaven and bring several friends and relatives with you. I heard this straight from the horses mouth. An ex-muslim by the name of Ergun Caner http://www.erguncaner.com/ . He came from Turkey at a young age and became a Christian himself. His father disowned him.

Getting to heaven for muslims is an act of your own merits. If you are good enough you're in. By contrast Heaven for a Christian is based on the merits of Christ. He preformed all the works necessary to enter heaven. Through him our sins are forgiven. It is as if his sinless life was substituted for our sinful lives and his penalty on the Cross counted toward our sins. Therefore a true Christian is someone who is saved by the merits of Christ. This transforms someone to the point of where we WILL not resort to such violent acts. Sure we mess up at times, but we always are snapped back in our place. The mark of a true Christian is someone who can not continue in a lifestyle of sin because God won't let us.
The most miserable person isn't so much a person who does not know Jesus. It's the person who does know him and tries to live a sinful lifestyle. Not really something I can explain clearly to someone who does not believe. Kinda like explaining blue to a blind man.
It's just not in the new nature given to us by Christ. God is the one doing it all through us. It's not by our own human effort that we are trying to be "good". Still we are flesh and blood and can make mistakes.
