I installed it this morning before the/.ing and lost all my 0.8 firefox bookmarks (bug 246018) when Firefox auto-imported (no prompt; bug 170869) all the IE bookmarks on my PC. I now have all my son's bookmarks. aargh!
Thanks swillden; that works (although I'm a little uncomfortable dealing with the Russian business community). For a buck it's not worth the hassle to try to figure out how to rip it, but if (when?) prices go up at allofmp3 then I may need to look for another solution.
Given that they haven't yet managed to create a CD that is uncopyable
I haven't had any luck ripping the latest Dandy Warhol's "Welcome to the Monkey House" and I can't find any mp3s from the CD on Kazaa so it seems difficult to copy for everyone out there. The CD contains specialized player software that the win autorun must install before you play it. Inserting the CD into the drive while booted to RH 9 makes a god-awful sound (jokes here will be ignored) in my combo drive and grip loops through the tracks but I can't do anything with it. The CD plays fine in all my CD players. Any/all ideas welcome.
Comments on the music I (want to) listen to will be ignored:).
I thought the point of the Google dutch auction was to reduce/eliminate the effect of IPO insiders. Normally at IPO the brokerage sets an artificially low price for the IPO that insiders can buy in at. When the stock starts trading then the market sets a realistic price (normally way higher; google for Cobalt, for example) so the insiders can cash in on opening day. With the dutch auction you either have shares or not, AFAICT there's no advantage to being an insider.
Since there's no advantage to being an insider, then it seems to me that the Kasner family hs no clue as to what's happeing with the IPO. That's seems to be a reasonable assumption since they're stupid enough to sue over this.
I don't think anyone is defending copying; I think the main point is that the RIAA claims that pirated music costs them money when the facts seem to point to the opposite.
Didn't CD sales go down after Napster was shut down? The RIAA's argument is that every electronic copy is a lost sale but that's clearly ridiculous. If I hear a song on the radio I like I'll look for other songs by the same group; if I still like the group I'll buy their CD.
Those electronic copies are selling CDs. While I agree that some people only listen to e-copies and never buy a CD and I believe that's wrong, the RIAA seems to miss the point that e-copies are building sales, not reducing them.
Spybot S&D seems to know most of the spy stuff out there, and you can also lock your IE preferences (like your home page) and changes to your host file (to prevent the hijacking). Works for me, anyway.
Holy smokes, this is the second Thief reference I've seen in two days here on/.; is there a new version coming out for Christmas?? Thief is far and away my favourite FPSneaker.
A nice idea posting the text, but I believe you'll find that the Globe and Mail extremely difficult to/. It loaded successfully every time but once for me two years ago today, and the news that day was even more interesting than Linux vs. Windows.
An excellent questions here in Canada. At Christmas a relative mailed a card to me with the correct address but mistakenly put my parent's postal code on the envelope. My parents received the card intended for me. Same province, different city so obviously they didn't look at the address.
...rubber fire hoses
Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded.

If they ever get around to offering a googol of bytes for your mailbox, then maybe someone will have a reason to sue!
opportunity to operate as insiders for the IPO

hmm, yet another missing poll option.
I know you are right, but if someone asks "Which filesystem do you use?" would you answer "X" or "XFS?

Looks like johnny_cobol has spent a little too much time with cobol and not enough with english
...and get me some Ernie Balls.
Does that mean you'll be attracted to Bert?
Is that like the old joke "what we lose on each sale we make up in volume"?
hmmm, I think it's mod 28
"Thanks to the pro-life/anti-abortion movement, this tactic is perfectly legal."
perfectly legal but I'm not interested in copying the tactics of those radicals (either pro-life or anti-abortion).
ah, yes, the Schoolhouse Rock series. 30th anniversary set available here
read this and -then- make fun of Marching Band.
"60 hours of rehearsal per minute of performance."
If every other house on the block is listed, then it's probably not too hard to figure out which one Ms. Bullock owns.

and this thread discusses how much Jake and Tobey look alike. I thought it was Tobey in October Sky until I looked it up.
Has anyone seen the four of them together?
I hadn't heard this. Do you have a link?
