I'm not trying to be redundant to the "This can't be true", but at least I read the article;-) They didn't mention any numbers, and I don't even trust their math.
There's about 190,000 Registered Linux users, and most people (including the creator of counter.li) understand that it's 10-20% of the number of actual users. I'd really like to see how many desktop systems there are, and perhaps the percentage of Mac users.
The 7500, impressive as it is in benchmarks is actually the same chip as the radeon "classic", only faster. The radeon 8500 on the other hand is completely different, and 2d doesn't even work with the old drivers.
With the Radeon 7500 (the one with the technical stuff to smash a geforce 3), nvidia will likely see a loss in it's sales to linux users. The Radeon 7500 is actually a radeon 64mb ddr that goes a lot faster. The radeon 8500 on the other hand is another generation, too bad it's not supported yet.
To be frank, if it weren't for the heat that nvidia cards produce, I'd probably get one. I just can't afford to have my server go down because a GPU overheated and pumped the case tempurature to 120 degrees. I don't want a video card that has a fan for something other than cosmetics.
People like watching little movies on their pda's, with the complexity of a format like divx, 206mhz seems about right. When we have 2ghz, and 3ghz in dual desktops, 206mhz sound good for a pda.
And we thought they were the bad guys!!

$149 for a peizoelectric fan... how is this going to work better than a 1800's style fan? I can't see how such a thing would work at all, unless you had stacked peltiers.
ATI has the tech to KILL nvidia, right now they're just holding back, cuz they don't want to flood the market with video cards.
IBM is making the processors for the PS3, and probably for a future nintendo, as was seen earlier on slashdot. Microsoft doesn't have the guts to work with high-end hardware, Sony, and Nintendo are experienced.
More on ATI: Sure nvidia has bought 3dfx, but ATI has proven with their radeon 7500 (which is just a fast radeon 64mb) that their core has a lot of room to grow, soon ATI will be using the high-end firegl stuff they acquired when they bought that workstation company.
I run linux 2.4 on my 486 notebook, it worked fine when the machine had 8mb of ram, in fact, there's a slight speed increase from 2.2.19. Kernel bloat may be becoming a problem in source size, etc, but it's not bad enough that you can't use linux 2.4.16 on your 486/386 with 8mb of ram. You may on the other hand have to compile your own kernel, instead of using the one redhat compiled with every driver and it's brother. Don't fall back on versions because some of the new versions are bloated, just use a less bloated distro, say Slackware.
First, when the largest technical site has over half the people not knowing whats going on, (and me a former super-gamer), there's no way this will make espn. Maybe a real game like UT

6000 years would have placed it before the Universal flood, unless this city is fosilized, it would be rediculous to say that it's 6000 years old, and, not to troll, but 4500 years is too early for Egypt also considering geneologies, The people falling away from God to have such a rediculous reason for building the structures, etc.
Egypt was blessed by God because they obeyed him for a large amount of time after the tower of Babel. Before the end of the world, Egypt will return to God and be very prosperous (Isaiah 20).
This is a VERY interesting find, and perhaps with more evidence it will get the "Native" Americans to shut up about us cheating them (Stupid anti-seminole mascots).
This will be the second time Apple will be the first to release something after someone else does! Way to got Apple. Oh wait, maybe it's the third:-)
1. iMac was not the first monitor integrated computer.
2. OS X was a little late to bring UNIX to the common person, they stuck with M$ junk, and nearly a year after it's release, it's still less popular than FreeBSD.
Yes, Boot over nfs does exactly that. Etherboot doesn't. The machines I was testing for such use were token ring so etherboot wouldn't work. KDE and X? KDE defintaly uses X, if you can run X, you can run kde (if you have 2.5gb ram:-). SVGALIB apps work, but the stability wasn't that great, back in the linux 2.4.0-test11 days:-)
No, to prove existance is much more simple than to prove non-existance. I am aware of God because of His love to me, and because He sent His Son to die for the sins of the world. Historians agree, there is more evidence that Jesus Christ lived than Julius Caesar, and Caesar lived.
I've been somewhat in disagreement with the "google trolls" in the past, but this askslashdot is rediculous, you could even use a lame search engine. There's support for a talking linux console for blind, and let's face it, a GUI isn't the best way to go for blind people.
What Is Speakup?
As mentioned previously, Speakup is a screen reader for the Linux
operating system. One of the things which makes Speakup different from
more traditional screen readers is that it is patched into the kernel. To
explain what this means, Speakup is an integral part of the operating
system. This means that when you turn on your computer and Linux starts,
Speakup also starts, meaning you can hear all boot-up messages, and
resolve any problems related to the computer not reaching the login prompt. In addition, when you shutdown your system you will receive speech
feedback right until the message "Power down" is given, indicating you
should turn off your computer.
The official Speakup home page is at linux-speakup.org
Deaf people? give me a break, scince when did computers need hearing? Sound is cool, but not at all nessesary.
As many of us know, this is a RISC R5000 (modified) processor. This is the same kind of chip you'd get in a 02 likely. Indy's don't get 294mhz. The potential for digital video editing is probably pretty good, because as I recall, the PS2 has a 32mb video ram, they're probably using opengl for the video (considering it's a R5000), and it's a fast video chip to do all those games.
What I'm wondering, is why hasn't Sony released the source code to their modified Linux kernel? Linux is definatly GPL, XFree86 is GPL, at least a lot of the code, and plenty more apps. Isn't porting considered big enough a change that it requires a source release?
...For Optical processors, when we wont need any transistors. I really don't think that a 0.15 micron will be anything competetive in 7 years. If they already have the micron figured out, you'd think they'd be manufacturing them? why not release it?
I Think the common opinion is that Kids will mistreat the computers. I know that many many will treasure them, but others like the PHD's will break them. So, make them pay $50 for the notebook origionally, so they have a sense of responsibilty, and your break rate will go down. Make it a deposite, so when they leave the grade, they get their money back.

Apperently you must had been dealing with different cards. My brother pulls on the network cable, the network stays up. I use a alpha kernel, the network stays up. The only time the network goes down is when the cable gets pulled out, then it's easy to get it back up. I'm using IBM 16/4 cards. Why do I see 17ms wait times with Ethernet? I get between 1.8 and 2 on my token ring network, but my friend's ethernet network is about 15-17ms, 15 * 1000, you get 15 seconds wait!
