Very funny, but as an aside, people choosing VHS over Betamax did make sense (at least at the time). Sony would not licence the Betamax technology to any other company. JVC on the otherhand freely licensed VHS to anyone who wanted to make a player/recorder. We all know from our economics class that high supply against low demand generally results in a lower price. So consumers gobbled up the VHS players, and BetaMax players were left to those who would spend the money for the better quality. Intel learned that lesson and worked with AMD to put Cyrix out of business. Sony didn't learn it's own lesson, and MiniDiscs enjoyed little marketshare over a regular CD player.

When I was a young lad in college (all of 10 years ago), I had to learn Fortran for one of my Chem Eng classes. We were learning Fortran77, mostly cause my profressor didn't think we would need it in the future, and didn't want us to be concerned with some of the new structures in more current versions.

The Aero's also had to learn it (I know cause I taught it to them, since their prof sucked). So what sectors of industry are people working in with Fortran? Is it still just the Chemical and Aeronautical fields, are other places (where a different language might be more beneficial, say) still using it, cause no one wanted to convert systems?

Especially when sharing the database with many users. I'd suggest SQL Server, with a vb frontend or even an Access frontend with the SQL Server tables linked into Access.

Unfortunately the question was pertaining to open source, probably because the owner of the data, doesn't want to drop a chunk of change on a major database. Yes Access comes with Windows, but the performance issue is too big.

As I recall the major TV networks is not part of the basic package, and has been a required provision of the cable company since time long gone.

MTV not being lumped in as a standalone is because Viacom offers Showtime, MTV, VH1, and Nickleodeon together to the cable companies, so the companies, in turn, must offer it to subscribers. The Discovery channels would probably do the same with Discovery, TLC, and Animal Planet.

I wouldn't be surprised about the rental of a cable box though...
