...we'll know that the government there is honest. Or is that an oxymoron?
If you knew anything about Louisiana politics you'd know that it was an oxymoron, to say the least. Practically every Louisiana government has been corrupt in one way or another. Hell, the police department in New Orleans (for instance) had a corruption rate of over 90% a few years ago.
I'm still trying to figure out why my brother has chosen to live there...
Those of us who have enough experience with gentoo to learn not to trust portage will probably have to worry. Emerge -up offers a "menu" of what's to be updated...
Not quite. If it were a menu, you could select which packages you wanted to update with a few keystrokes and go from there. As it is, you'd have to inject any packages you did not want.
No, it was cell block 1138 that they were transferring Chewie from. It was not Luke's ID. Can't remember what Luke's ID was (I don't remember that they ever mentioned it). Anyway, it was Luke who responded to the call of "TK421"...
Is there any way to disable aRts getting installed? One of the reasons I got a hardware mixing soundcard was so I wouldn't have to worry about using programs like aRtsd or esd. It seems that even though I have "-arts" in my USE variable, aRts still gets installed by the KDE apps I like to use.
From what I understand, pop3s only encrypts between the client and the mail server; it does not do end-to-end encryption between clients. This is useful if the network you're using is prone to be sniffed out, but not really much more secure than that.
My computers need to run for *years* without "upgrades". The rapid changes are a huge turnoff to me in my business.
No one is forcing you to upgrade. With Microsoft, you can run for a few years, and then you must upgrade. With Linux (or any other free OS), you never have to upgrade if you so desire. The freedom is that the choice is entirely yours. With Microsoft, you unfortunately do not have that luxury.
I think this is more of a misunderstanding of what AI is than a true failure in the field.
I agree. Most people have a gross misconception of what AI is, or what it can become. One must remember that machine intelligence and human intelligence are totally different, and look nothing like each other.
I love the fact that Oppenheim never really responds to this. Since he didn't (or at least it wasn't shown in the article) I think the RIAA is truly on its way to being extinct.
But what about automated responses, like order confirmations from say Amazon? Those systems will never send a response to a challenge, no matter what. And not every user is smart enough to add such systems to their whitlelist manually.
I think whitlelists are a poor solution to the spam problem.
I don't think it's enforcible. If you make giving credits a requirement to use such-and-such a license, a developer will just create a new license without that restriction.
And, you'd have balkanization on how it should be implemented. Boot messages? Splash screens? If users get annoyed with these, they'd want to turn them off, and someone would find a way to do so. If a user wants to know who wrote a piece of free software, many times this is not difficult to obtain.
I guess I just see it as being unenforcible and unnecessary.
...different Firebird windows do still run in a single thread.
Threads and processes are different. There could be multiple threads within the Firebird process (I don't know, I'm assuming that it is multi-threaded). If something crashes a thread, that thread dies, not necessarily the whole process.
Just seemed to me you were mixing apples and oranges.
I thought it went further back than this. Edison devised light bulbs that would burn out after so long, so he could have a constant revenue stream. The original light bulbs are still functional, even after over a century.
Nicotine itself isn't carcinogenic, but it is a precursor for carcinogens in the body. Look here[PDF] for a little blurb on how your body forms carcinogens from nicotine (and other tobacco alkaloids).
I know that NVidia has a driver you can download that supports the GeForce3 and earlier. Don't think it's really open, but it worked for me on my GeForce3 Ti/200. I think there's a mini-HOWTO on setting it up for XFree86, can't find the link.

Not to be nitpicky, but still...

...downloading and properly installing spyware....
Is there a proper way to install spyware? Please, tell me, I'd like to know.
Most, if not all, of the Gentoo Documentation is released under the Creative Commons License.
Will they try to implant these in prison inmates? Or people with mental illness?
God I hope this a joke...
If you use OO.o's formula/equation editor, you can have overbars. I use that quite a bit, and for the most part I like the way it works.
And I thought you meant chump...

That's easy... blow up a Krispy Kreme truck...
The U.S. is bound by international treaty not to use Chemical or Biological weapons, ever, under any circumstances.
Yeah, and the U.S. is known for following international law.
Not only does it have Ogg Vorbis support, it has FLAC support too. I'm definitely considering this now...

What's wrong with the Hokie Pokey?
like asking for bloatware if you ask me. Like somebody once said, a tool should do one thing and do that one thing well.
I dunno, just my thought.

Yep, that's why I spend money on Gorditas, Mexican Pizzas, and Big Beef Burrito Supremes.
