I seriously thought those cool ads they play were effective. They rotate them every few weeks, everyone laughs, but you actually see people in the audience take out their phone and check it. It always makes me think about my own. I guess the assholes wouldn't notice, but it can stop true accidents.
I would expect that every serious reader of/. who is competent in their field, is that way because of an early start. TRS-80, Apple II, Vic-20, C64, those Radio Shack x-in-1 electronics kits. All of these early experiences have made us what we are, and turned us into Linux Geeks and PERL hackers, RF Engineers and whatever else we do, as a collective group. What are we stirring up in the next generation when we provide something better then Windows? I just hope not another Bill Gates!
A good drink can Be anything, for sure. I like to Drink NesQuick. Is that your choice, too? It's much better then Ovaltine. Gives me A reason to post. It's not Christmas, but that's my Story.
Thank you.
We got the pulp copy of the article Monday, and everyone was running around trying to do the math, reading the budget and such. I was just about to post our results here, and I'm glad you had done so. The entire budget of the Treasury Department is only $10.8 billion a year, so it sort of makes a bit more sense.
If anyone is interested:
I just installed it on my Viewsonic V37 (Pocket PC 2003), which has only an SD slot for expansion. There is only one SD WiFi card. It's the Socket one, which is sold under the names Socket, Viewsonic and Sandisk. Same card, same driver.
In my office, that's paired up to my Linksys WAP11, connected to world through a cable modem.
Actually, that part doesn't matter, since it was an in office call.
The sound quality was fairly bad, but the processor usage was low. The lag was about 5 seconds. I could understand what was being said, but the words seemed stretched out. Much less quality then a PC to PC call, normally. I had echo cancellation on, but it didn't seem to work well, as I could hear a message bouncing back and forth. This was Pocket PC to regular PC that had already been using Skype.
If anyone has any ideas to try, or questions about it, let me know. I'll give it a shot.
I worked as a contract employee at one point, and after I was done, they decided to add the job as a permanent position. They contracted me back to train the new guy. What joy that was. Had to teach him PERL in about a week. I walked away with more cash in 3 months then he will in a year.
It used to be that everyone who dialed up their ISP, circa 1996/1997 (and some before) did. It was the norm. What happened to that? Now you're lucky if your ISP doesn't just send you to Yahoo!, like SBC does.
Anyone can get access to a POP3/SMTP provider for almost no cost, with pretty free limits. Why is webmail so popular? For $9.95 a month, you can use PHP Webhosting
They are reliable, fast, and they offer the most amazing webhosting plans as part of the package. Just try it, what can it hurt.
When USB was originally released, there were also multiple speeds of devices. Low speed devices, such as keyboards, and mice, and higher speed devices, like drives and cameras. Full Speed refers to the full available speed at that time, 12Mb/s, instead of the 1.5Mb/s.
We're becoming a big user of the Applied Data Systems "Bitsy Board" here at our place. It's a really handy StrongARM platform, and I'm glad to see it at the top. If you're working on a project, check it out:

It has a ton of I/O lines, lots of useful built in functions, and a good default configuration.
Hit by the burst of the dot com bubble, they've moved to slower servers to save money. They keep hinting at it, but are afraid to say it outloud. -Dosman!
I read the post, and the article he's speaking of. I wish I could recall where it was, or what story it was hooked to. The point of it was that at some school here in the US, these two high school aged kids decided to boycott the showing of Channel One, so they walked out. They were charged with truancy and went to juvenile hall for it. They were supposed to each serve 15 days for it, but I can't recall if they actually did the time.
It's partially their own fault, because I'm sure there is a more official way to be excused from the showing. Just walking out of any class room usually means big trouble.

"Ctl-Alt-F8" in XP? That's almost there. Just hit Windows-L which drops you to the desktop list, and then hit the name of the desktop you want to use. It's very quick.

No, look again. It's running 9x, and the email window is pasted into the shot. It has a start button but a Mac title bar in the program. (assuming it's the same Best Buy ad) Morons...

Actually, there was networked Simcity 2000, but it never really caught on. It's too bad, the idea of causing crime and pollution in other people's cities is exciting.

Won't this just give SCO and Microsoft more ammo in their battle against Linux?

Make it look like you took it with you to the US in the first place. Business travelers do carry their laptops with them, don't they?
