I considered doing this for a while (washing in the evening). Unfortunately I found out that the only reason I drink coffee is because of the taste. The thing that really wakes me up and gets me going in the morning is a cold shower.
But it means the world if you ever get a software audit. The IT people where I work are paranoid on this case and the follow licenses to a T since it means a huge fine for the company (and the behind of the IT head).
Twice is 24 hours... and now they added autoupdate to the client. Seems like they expect even more "hostilities".
I really like Trillian (yes, I use Windows). In only 8 megs of RAM i get all the functionality of 4 im's plus irc. ICQ alone is, like, 12 megs. Add to that the lack of ads and functions I never use (gaming, voice chat, etc) and it is the ideal im client, at least for me.
If I could, I'd stick to one im platform, but most of my coworkers use AIM and my friends ICQ and all those who use XP (for whatever reason), use MSN messenger.
Luckily I overcame my gaming hangups some time ago.
What I mean by this is, I'm no longer ashamed to admit that at my ripe old age (28) I still play games. Online games, rpg games, text adventure games... heck, I was thinking of gettimg me one of them consoles, or a gameboy so I have something to do during tedious meetings.
Yup... no longer trying to look innocent when browsing thru the gaming section of my local hw/sw store (you know... the way I did when I was 13 and stole furtive glances at the adult magazine stand).
Uh? The younger generation is growing computer/internet literate and is not surprising to see a 10 years old child tinker with his settings. Of course, as a parent you might have to define the boundaries of where can he go and what can he do with his computer, but don't rely on his ingnorance for protection.
I guess you can get addicted to almost anything if your are compulsive enough.
I read sometime ago (can't remember the source) of a man who held up a convenience store (details are hazy) to pay for his addiction to Pepsi. He would drink up to 70 cans a day.
Myself I don't know how true this is, as this was a long time ago and quite frankly I doubt someone could drink 70 cans of anything in one day (plus, the liver/kidneys of that poor man would be in ruins, not to mention that pepsi tastes like hell imho).
Certainly not twice as slow. Xwindows, however, is a pain in the axe if you are forced to use the standard vga/svga server. In comparison, almost any "el-cheapo" video adapters have optimized drivers for windows (any windows).
Not twice as slow, but the screen refresh performance makes you feel like so.
Who's the bigger asshole? The one who exploits flaws in products or the one that releases products without checking for flaws that could be exploited?
I have the feeling that no matter how much they check, something will (almost) always slip by. When the technology is complicated enough, the product will always be released with bugs, sometimes exploitable. I don't think it would be appropiate to label the developers as bigger assholes than the exploiters.
Lots of technologies (software and otherwise) that are acknowledged by the public in general as the leaders on their field have had flaws at one time or another. The important thing is that they are acknowledged and corrected before the damage becomes too great.
Subscription should be the answer. Adult sites operators (read: pornographers) have known this for some time now. And I'm sure they are doing fine since there are so many.
If you have content worth paying for, charge for it. But for those who are browsing just to shoot the breeze, it is a losing proposition.
Say, you are following links and suddenly stumble on the web page of Little Jimmy's doggy (wich consists on just a picture of the mutt and the name typed below). Was it worth a penny?
Keenspot (web comics site) has an alernative subscription service without ads.
Not all great plots were used 400 hundreds years ago but I get your point (think fight club, usual suspects, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon and most of the film noir genre... ack, long term memory failing... need rum...)
Yes, Matrix is valuable as the first of its kind. But it wasnt much of a movie except for its visuals/wire fu. I saw it once in theaters, then again in cable. But I wouldnt go out of my way to see it again.
Oh yes... and think "The Good, the Bad and Ugly". Damn great movie (imho).
You can only come up with so many tech support/microsoft-sucks jokes and not become repetitive. I read this comic every day. Sometimes I laugh out loud and sometimes I am left thinking "... uh?"
Illiad has tried a couple of new approaches that detract from the usual themes (eg the Miranda/AJ thing) but sometimes he fails to follow on them.
I'll be ordering my copy of the book as soon as Amazon has it available (ordering directly from the author can be a problem when you live overseas).
No wait... that was the delete command for Atari DOS 2.5.
Those were the days... thank gods for emulators. Sometimes nostalgia hit me pretty bad (then I remember writing school papers on AtariWriter and nostalgia goes to hell...)

That bloody Bonzy buddy is as annoying as the paperclip...

You gotta lov... crap! somebody beat me to it...

It doesn't sound that silly if you consider its pr0n we are talking about.

Let go of Xwindows and its a whole other world.

I remember the day I found out that Avatar was NOT the name of the char in the Ultima games.
English is not my first language, mind you.
Actually you got me thinking about Lemmings... ah, those were the days...

Uh? Isn't Holland == The Netherlands??? If it isn't then I've been living a lie...
Why would they? They are probably getting paid to do so... And even if they refuse to host it any longer, you'll probably find someone who will.
Then we'd have to call it a Meowulf cluster, shouldn't we?
Why are you guys groaning???
It doesn't? Weird. Morpheus runs fine on Win2k Pro. Isn't winxp supposed to be a re-hash of Win2k?
Well.. acording to my trusty FAR SIDE book we had to evolve because we lost a coin toss with monkeys.
So they aren't exactly totally gone as just smaller and more feathered.
Did birds really evolve from dinosaurs? Yes, I did watch Jurassic Park but I didn't think it qualified as a hard fact.
Didn't that movie also state that dinosaurs were warm blooded (what was the term? Poichiloterm or somesuch).
Hear, hear! I wholeheartedly agree with you. Go rent Chinese Connection or Feathered Snake (or somesuch) if you want to see a real kung fu movie.
