So, I have 3 DEC Alpha 500a, an older shuttle (maybe 2 -3 years old), a dual p2 300, a dual p3 600 1u server, that I don't use. I dont think selling those on ebay would be worth it, shipping would be a real expense....living in Hawaii it'd have to be 2 day air, and have you lifted a alpha? I swear that thing make a better boat anchor then anything else! Oh and all those machines are working, so if you want one make an offer, but you pay shipping :)

I agree, I started to do jiu jitsu about 3 months ago, it is entertaining, and a great work out. And because of this I've started to exercise more on my own (running, lift weights). Starting a martial arts will give you motivation to keep going and get in shape, of course you have to find the right one for you.

  5. Thank you Slashdot on The History of Slashdot Part 4 - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow · · Score: 1

I never thought I would become a geek, in high school I could use a computer, had decent knowledge, but had no clue about coding and the such. Then I moved to Hawaii to get a business degree in 1998. Though, with having my own laptop I quickly learned about irc, mp3s, and *nix in mid to late 1999. This is also when I found out about slashdot from friends. I remember the days of trying to install linux and not having much luck, and then finally getting slackware successfully installed for the first time was a major accomplishment! This is about when I then realized I needed to change majors and I switched to Computer Science... I must thank slashdot for this, as it helped me realize my true calling in life, to be a geek! Slashdot helped the inner geek in me come out, so thank you again.

I am looking forward to January when I can start working again on a project I started and haven't had time to fully test and debug due to class and work.

  10. From a childs point of view on IT and Divorce? · · Score: 1

Well, this is from my point of view. My mom was a school teacher (no she isn't dead, yet, but retired) and my father worked in IT (till about 2 years ago when his division was out sourced) and I also have a brother who is a year older. Okay, so you have the back round information. My parents got divorced in 1986. I am not sure why, but do I think it was from the job my father held at the time? No. Has it affected me and my brother? Yes, I mean my parents divorced when i was 7 years old and I saw my father every other weekend (so about 5 days a month). Does it still affect me? Why yes, I am not close to either parent. I have not talked to my father is several months, I talk to my mom often but don't feel close. As for my brother, we talk and have started to become close, but me living 6000 miles away doesn't help this at all... Because of this, I don't see my father as a father, I see him more like a friend, growing up that is how it was too. I mean only seeing him 5 days a month it was like lets go have fun, he never had to punish us or do any of that normal parenting stuff.

Basically, divorce sucks, more for the kids then the parents! I could go into more personal stuff too, but I dont have the time and you don't want to hear it... divorce screws with kids heads, has done it to me!

Then as I wanted a new laptop and had the extended four year warrenty and it was coming to an end, I tried to fry the motherboard. I had the thing wrapped in blankets and running for a good three weeks. Also, have dropped it/kicked it off the bed several times. Sadly I still own this laptop and everything still works.
