Which is exactly how windows does it. This even seems to work with memory-intesive games that manage thier own swap, like Diablo 2

Here's a buissness model for you. Create corporation. Register on all the job sites as a high tech company with lots of job openings. Compile huge email list from all the resumes, then sell list to spammers. It's like free money!
I;m not 100% familiar with the entymology of "regulated", but an educated guess based on my knowledge of history would equate it with well-trained, not well-equipped. Meaning, to me, that requring things like gun training courses for gun owners is not only withing the rights of congress, but in fact it's obligation.
His point is, if you want linux games, don't buy windows ones. He's not advocating that everyone stop buying windows games, he's just saying this is something that needs to happen if you want linux ports to be a viable alternative.
I'd submit that a publiclly traded company, or, indeed, any buisness entity, has and should have a lower expectation of privacy than a private individual. That said, I can't really see any reason for a document retention policy other than to cover up potential wrongdoing - altho I do agree that, given enough "enemy" lawyers, they'll find SOMETHING to nail you for, no matter what.
I seem to recall, from an interview when the suit was first announced, that for technical reasons you CAN'T make a modchip that allows playing of imports without, as a side effect, allow playing of copyed games. It would not suprise me to learn that Sony designed the PS2 copy protection this way intentionally.
Actually, as I read the decision, while what you say is the technical fact, you would be in violation of the license agreement to play them in a different region, because you're no long covered by your license. Selling them after you've moved would be a violation, too. So much for first sale doctrine.
Thats the most moronic argument in favor of draconian anti-piracy legislation there is. I'm losing Potentiall Money right now by not being able to buy my DVDs from overseas where they're cheaper. Those guys in England are losing Potential Money because they can't sell thier product. Potential Money is NOT REAL MONEY. The government has no buisness artificially augmenting a very successfull industry, which is exactly what they're doing. If a company can't compete within the normal limits of fair use, then perhaps that company should just fail.
Yeah, just try and get your refund, though. Go ahead, I dare you. In any case, PS2 games have no such license printed on them, and, although I'll have to double check this, I don't believe the PS2 does either. Another point Re: EULAs - while it's true that you don't neccesarily have to sign to agree to a license, you DO have to agree - if you aren't presented with opporunity to rejet it, then you aren't bound by it. This is why stuff like EULAs on web sites aren't binding, unless they design the site in such a way that you can't enter the site without agreeing to the EULA.
Regardless, it's not (or shouldn't be) my responsibility to be anally overprotective of my CDs, if I'd rather just back them up and then not worry about it. Circumstances beyond my control, and all that. And, of course, the children issue.
I'll pick a nit for you - it's states that kill minors, not the Fed. CA, however, is one of those states, and recently passed a bill where seeking the death penalty is at the option of the prosecutor, not the the judge.
While we're on the topic of unfairness, how about disnfranchising felons? IMO, if I can't vote, I shouldn't be paying taxes.
Your friends are pulling your leg, it's kansas where it grows wild. However, it IS so common that pot considered primo stuff in southern california gets thrown away (by the garbage bag) there. There's a fair amount of usage in Mendocino, the town (not city), but theres little or no cultivation. All the real cultivation is done in Humboldt, mainly on the state parks. Small scale growing is done on GP land, usually in smaller outlying areas like Albion and Comptche.
Depends on where you live. Here in CT, retails stores have to offer 8-10 an hour just to get people in the door. In Northern CA, you have to be a manager to be making more than minumum wage.
I seem to recall that the "natives" the dutch actually gave the money to were a migratory tribe that was just there to fish, and didn't live there at all. The first American capitalists, selling stuff that didn't belong to them!
No, he's a self important prick. Mendocino has alot of them. I'm all excited because this is the first time I've seen one in anything as mainstream as Wired and slashdot, though.
Some nitpicks - willits it's several hours drive from Mendo (it's not even in 95460, it's in 95490), and I'd be suprised if anyone actually living within Mendocino broadcasts (rural area, remember. Lots of people get mail in Mendo that don't live there). Sattelite reception is fine, but there's no cable, and only one (weak) broadcast televion station. No AM radio to speak of. There is FM radio, but the only one based in Mendo is the student station mentioned in the article. There's no police station (Mendocino isn't incorporated, there is no "city"), and, to my knowledge, all the fire house has is scanners. They've been VERY effective in shutting off celular, there's no cell service in most of the county, and every time there's a bid to put one up, it rapidly gets shot down.
bulk rate is vastly cheaper than first class. It's possible that the profit margin is higher, but I can't really imagine that it is - there's not that much additional overhead on first class mail thats not there with bulk rate.
She actually is just a kook, because she uses a computer regularly. In fact, she had one in her home for years, without any problems. She'd never figure out how to use her computer without a mouse anyway.
I know Christy, and I'll promise that it's in her friggen head. She's also really unlikely to get it together enough to ever file a lawsuit, but she did take medical leave over it.
People in mendo are really easily swayed by hysterical rantings, especially if they're involved with conspiracies and anti-"The Man". Much the way/. is about Microsoft. Crackpot theories are a pretty big market there.

The free market would work if there was one. In alot of places (most?) there isn't.
My hardware router can even lie and pretend to have the same MAC address as the cable modem.

Why can't we? In what concrete way is it different? Go ahead and give me a list so that I may strike it down point by point.
