Generating buzz by his name alone. His motor and communication skills have deteriorated to such a degree that that it should have 'based on the thoughts of Steven Hawking, we think' on the title. It's sad and unfortunate, but his relevance has been non existent for the last 10+ years.

Actually he was just stupid enough to not have memorized how to get to the boat and took a wrong turn. Though you are correct, the containment fences all went down when they rebooted the system not from him. But that doesn't fit the storyline at hand. My son watches this movie about once a month.

2 Million. That's takes a lot of cycle time to debug and recompile and may shut down some minor systems. Like the T-Rex and Raptor containment fences, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  17. What's the point? on Why Intel Wants To Network Your Clothes Dryer · · Score: 1

Anything that I own that is worth running off hours, namely the washing machine, dryer, and dishwasher already has the ability to dial in the number of hours before it starts.

The only one I ever use is the dishwasher, and that's more because I don't want to listen to it while I'm up. I tend to do 2-4 loads of clothes at a time which makes it rather hard to schedule running at off peak hours. Your money is better spent on a higher spin cycle which reduces dry times. A lot of my clothes come out so that they can hang dry in about 10 minutes. Or a gas dryer.

Most people use the power they use because they want to use it then. Shall I only use the oven after midnite? All of this is a waste of money. Just another way to make money for GE, Intel, etc.

This has been over a month coming. The irony is that at least for Orion they are using some jobs stimulus money that was given to keep working. At least through June. So what was important enough for stimulus money one day goes on the chopping block the next. Makes sense. My understanding is there is some verbage attached to an Afghanistan funding bill (something guaranteed to pass) that addresses the termination fee coverage issue.

  22. Re:What commercial really means on SpaceX Eyeing June 4 Window For Falcon 9 Launch · · Score: 0

Certainly not true. ITAR is export controlled only. Typically DoD stuff. The model being looked into will be that of procurement only. The government will no longer have any ownership of the systems. Just like government cars and trucks that are bought for every day use are assembled in Mexico/Canada from parts from China or wherever GM/Ford builds them. Oh the contract winning company may be US based, but that's where it stops. There is no protection for the workers underneath. In this case, Commercial Space means Outsourced.

  23. What commercial really means on SpaceX Eyeing June 4 Window For Falcon 9 Launch · · Score: 0, Flamebait

Commercial companies are currently contracted for Constellation. LM is the primary. What this 'commercial push' really means is NASA will no longer be in the driving seat for requirements and the public will no longer own the design, drawings, etc. So what you say? Well, currently Constellation is an ITAR program, which makes it fall under export restrictions. This means no foreign nationals, no outsourced jobs. An American rocket built by Americans. Ask yourself this. How many programmers does Elon have at paypal who are foreign nationals. This is the future of American space flight. Something to really be proud of. Nice way to drive yet another industry out of the country.
