If I actually need a job by the time I'm in my 50s, I'll have screwed up royally somewhere. Compound interest and dollar cost averaging are your friends. You really can take responsibility for your own life.
This attitude assumes that you are totally unaffected by the outside world. Can you guarantee that you won't get laidoff just as you near retirement? God luck finding a job with age discrimination to fill in that last decade.
Most people have money in 401Ks/IRAs and that is in stock funds (just like we've been told we should). This is fine unless you are ready to retire and the market tanks right then. Now compound interest isn't your friend anymore, hell it doesn't even return your calls. You don't have time to wait for things to recover, you need the money NOW.
Total self-reliance is a myth, we depend on outside support more than we care to admit.
According to Samsung's press release they give an example of a 32 inch screen. The numbers they give show only a 10% reduction in weight and a 20% reduction in depth, not bad but not enough to justify dumping your current CRT if it is running well.
Here is some info I found on it. Note the reference to "aspiration pneumonia" (breathed in the infection) and "penecillin G". He shouldn't assume it came from his brushing though, he could've breathed it in from soil dust or countless other sources. Usually though it requires something like a wound to infect the body.
What if I found the commercials to be offensive? Who wins, the "What about the children?" crowd or the "Copyrights need to be extended another 500 years" crowd?
He eliminated crime and terrorism? I hope someone told the criminals and the terrorists. It is like saying "I've eliminated bad feelings and thoughts."
Seeing that there was crime on the front page of today's paper I'd have to disagree. What an arrogant jackass.
Plus algae blooms can cause "dead zones" as their decomposing masses comsume the dissolved oxygen in water (this is happening off the coast of Louisiana). They don't settle the instant they die.
Not all of us "greens" are against nuke power. I'll take a few acres of possible contamination from properly stored waste vs the entire earth's atmosphere being trashed.
I wish I remember that level of detail. All I remember about the setup was that we had large (certainly not your physics demo-sized) scintillation counters. Somehow we were measuring the voltage coming off of them and passing it to an oscilliscope. We also looked at the curve of a beta emitter which I thought was impressive since it looked exactly like the books said it would.
If this sounds too vague then I'm sorry, it was many years ago!
The article says it has found the source of cosmic ray but only talks about gamma rays. Maybe I'm mistaken but isn't cosmic rays a catch-all for a variety of extraterrestrial radiation from photons to particles? They made no mention of high-energy particles, only gamma rays. However it did say they detected Cherenkov radiation which comes from high-energy particles passing through a medium. I'm a bit confused, what exactly did they detect, particles or gamma rays?
As part of an experimental physics course in college, one of the things we had to do was set up a cosmic ray detector. We used photomultiplier tubes to detect and roughly measure the spectrum of the cosmic rays. What made it especially impressive was the fact that we had 20+ floors of concrete over our heads when we did it and that the spectrum was totally flat.
I had an astrophysics prof in college from India who said in class, I kid you not, "It is very warm in here. It puts you to sleep. Maybe that is why the cooler northern countries have been historically more advanced industrially." Dunno if there is any truth to that but it certainly woke me up.
It's ok, the Republicans have always stood for smaller government, balanced budgets and less spending...right?
Sorry, I must've been dreaming.
Seriously, just wait until interest rates go up and they try to borrow more $ to pay off the current massive debt.

Actually at those temps it would be fozen solid.
The hardest part might be convincing the NSF to let you go to the South Pole research station just so you can run around naked.
I wonder if they go barefoot too?
Looks like I can't die yet.
If lying makes the brain work harder then Dub'ya must be giving himself a migraine.
Now we'll finally have a vehicle suitable for tracking spice miners on Arrakis.
But with SLI you'll be able to use two boards to reach the fps you were promised to reach with your single board!
See, it works out in the end.
SLI power consumption can be significant!
Thats why I always use the office laser printer to write my ransom notes.

Please be quiet, I'm trying to read about the latest breakthrough in cold fusion.

Just like Superman has Kryptonite, its Archilles heel is SPAM

Why stop there? I'm setting up a website with some pornstars and references to the following:
..etc
Subaru
REI
Nintendo
Sony
Dell
Bank of America Loan Dept.
Of course it could backfire and I'd end up instead getting an apology letter from a pornstar with an offer for free...you know.
How long will it be before "www.slut-teens.com" puts up some lawyer bait on their site to get some of that sweet sweet free publicity?
Well we know that Nintendo's legal assistants had at least one hand on their keyboards so they could type the threat letter.
If I had a job that required me scanning porn sites for trademark violations I'd probably take much shorter lunches.
