There are many places that are instant kill for games where players level to gain power. If I'm playing WOW, and I find myself in an area that I shouldn't be in for 20 more levels, I will die when attacked. It's not the games fault, it's my fault for going where I shouldn't have gone. Likewise, if a much higher level player of the opposite faction, they may be able to kill my lower level character with one hit. Now, there are areas that they cannot attack me unless I attack first, but in others, I'm open game. Generally, hanging out to kill the character again and again is a dick move. The quote 'If you kill me one more time I will come and kill you for real and I am not kidding." makes it sound like he was doing something along those lines.
Otherwise, fighting and killing aren't bad, unless the game is retarded, which is how the other comments make COH sound...
The LAN party isn't just about playing the game, it's also about getting together with friends and having fun. Thus, the party aspect to the gaming. It's about being able to see your friends reaction when you frag them, or when they realize that you changed their desktop to goatse.
Hell, I met my last girlfriend at a LAN party, we just about made out on my friends couch. Speaking of which, it's also about telling your friend how hot his sister is every time she walks by.
Wait, I thought that all the OS was supposed to do was be an OS, and that by adding anything extra, Microsoft was being a monopoly. But now, if they don't add everything that you would ever want to use on a computer, it's not a complete OS?
You still have to solve puzzles in god mode.
You still have to navigate any jumps or pitfalls in god mode.
You are still playing a game, you just can't die.
You aren't playing, someone else is. The same is true if you are watching the computer play chess with its self. You are no more involved with the game than if you are involved with The Rock as he was fighting aliens in the movie adaption of Doom. The only difference is that if you are in the same room with someone who is playing, you can talk to them.
And even there, you are watching a game being played where the outcome is not certain. Like sporting events, games can be fun to watch. This is mainly due to the nature of some games, and due to the uncertainty of the outcome. You don't know who will win. With this feature however, the game plays itself with the express intent to win all on its own. This makes it nolonger a game.
The difference between godmode and what Nintendo is doing, is that with cheat codes, you are still playing the game. You aren't just watching a movie. Sure, maybe with the cheat you don't run out of ammo or can't die, but you are still playing. It's still a game. Once you cut out player control, it stops being a game.
So these exist in much the same way that Cthulhu Lego sets exist. They aren't in the actual catalog, but if you get enough pieces and put them together, you can make it.
If that's the case, then it probably shouldn't go on the periodic table. Or at least just not be appended to the end of the table. Perhaps a subset could be added for man made elements.
The article states that they have made four atoms of this stuff. Can you find it anywhere else? Is it something that we would only find in the hearts of stars or deep in clouds of dark matter? And if it only lasts for a few milliseconds, what can we do with it?
But he is now setting his sights higher. "We tried the same experiment to get to element 120. We've not seen it yet, but we believe the element exists and, with a long enough beam time, it could be produced," he said.
Exists where? "Exists" and "we can make" are two different things.
most people are going to play it like it's free, as in, not paying for anything. You'll still have a minority that will help to boost the sales by paying a whole lot more than they should for in game items. Likewise, I have never played a free MMO that didn't have someone running around the home city just shouting out advertisements.
Remembering back to my years in school, I can agree, it's not the money you pay them, it's the effective ness of the teachers, and there were many teachers who were only there because they were too old to fire, and of course, were way over paid due to their time teaching at the school...
These are fourth and fifth graders however. They don't tend to think about growing up, other than fireman or princess, and even then, it's not a realistic "how do I become this" it's a, "Wow, these guys are cool, can we get a fire poll, can we dad, canwecanwecanwe!!!!". However, if you promise them cash, something tangible that they can see right then, of course they are going to see that as an instant reward, and try to achieve that.
I would love it if the first aliens that visit us is a war like species that travels in giant oversized smoke belching space craft fueled by burning tires.
Well, in R&D, you have to produce a product. If you don't produce something, they the cancel it and move on. If you are just doing research at a university, you can possibly drag it out a bit longer. The business is about results, and if the ROI doesn't look good, your project gets canned. A university or thinktank is still interested in the ROI, but not as much, if you can show some merit, and still get funding from investors or grants, then you will probably be able to continue.
Someone get the Sword of a Thousand Truths!

Especially since the shared connection to battlenet for multiple people will never be as good as a connection on a LAN

Well, we better hope it happens during the day when the stars aren't out.
I hope this doesn't mess up his home too much
Wait, so this element can be used to protest scientology?
Thegamium
well, they need to make something for the Miss Universe contest of the year 3000's tiara...

it's a hole in the floor, every time I play, I find it, it's always in the same spot.

I really hate people some times. You got one phone for free, so you feel that you need another? Get a damn job and buy one.

"Don't probe me bro"
Trade in books? You'd think that authors and publishers would be pissed as hell about public libraries!
