RMS should have separated the guidelines and advantages of free software. One guideline for the end-users and the other for developers. Developers want access to the source to study it, modify it, and/or distribute it. End users just want the freedom of using it.
Don't give the end users something they do not understand (code), but make it easily discoverable for the intelligent users (programmers).
I believe this is like giving your restaurant clients a meal that is not fully cooked or lacking spices with the full recipe, but also priding yourself that your food is free.

IRIX is able to do just that, gracefully. If there's a company who contributes to Linux's acceptance in high-end computing, viva SGI!

The truth is I've had my hotmail address for about 5 years now. I haven't lost one single email from my box. I only have 2MB of storage but again that's a service they're offering. If you want more storage, you buy it. That's the deal everywhere. But on the other side, spam is a bitch in there.

I did mean "Linux distributions." There is Redhat's linux rpm that are specially built for the Redhat system. And there's the Mandrake kernels with the mdk abreviation.
Imagine you were grepping through the kernel code and you want to match the occurence of flavor or is it flavour? This becomes a problem somehow and needs to be addressed. Maybe they could compile a list of those kind of words and everytime it comes up, mention both words i.e There are many flavors/flavours of Linux distributions.
This happens a lot when a geek and non-geek creatures interact through speech. Rarely one of the two gets along with the other. It's just a fact. The geek type can be very annoyed by people who don't pick things quickly when explained to them. They expect the person on the other end of the line to be smart.
When you use your fat32 windows system for a very long time, some of the programs you use seem to write data randomly on the hard drive. Thus, it might write data at near the end of your hard disk or in the middle. Defragmenting your hard drive rearranges your "written data" so there's no gap between those multiple "writes" since you're running many program that write randomly. When you decide to install Linux(partition), you defrag so you get a chunk of the hard drive space that's not polluted with those "writes."
Those who go and buy Macs because they are easier to use (compared to Linux) and do not crash (compared to other operating systems(OS)) are rejects of the Slashdot community. True slashdot geeks don't go and buy a computer/OS because it is easy to use. They buy a computer because it is tweakable. Does the Slashdot community just go and buy preinstalled Linux systems? No, they play with the kernel(latest/funky patches), do all sort of things to the hardware, put Slackware(IMO) in that thing, force the bitch to spit up chewbacca . Don't you find it boring to just put a CD and let the installer tell you what you should do next? Boring. We're geeks; We try to understand why things go wrong or do not.
