Program the software to recognize a beer bottle and a refrigerator, for example, and next time you're running on empty, you just need to wave a bottle in front of the laptop's camera and request a refill.
I'd hate to see some of the other modifications, such as fashoning the robot with a blow-up doll's wide-mouthed head.
Bech said the company was planning a service that he compared to Disneyland for its safe, wholesome environment - in contrast to the 'Coney Island' he said that the open Internet can sometimes become. 'Compare Coney Island to Disneyland,' he said. 'When you're at Disneyland, there's no trash, no violence and you never see security. That's what we have in mind.
Come on... this is a gaming network, not a theme park.
Kind of like a Microsoft OS, you never see security...
this site reported a rumor about a GTA-Miami add-on, where the city is built on a rough model of the actual city of Miami. (Similar to Midtown Madness) - Although these are just rumors... it would be a nice add on. Think of pthe possibilities.
I work for a webhosting company and have had to deal with concerned and confused customers who have recieved emails from the Domain Registry of America, a sister company of Verisign. (I believe.. correct me if I'm wrong. Nonetheless this is very shady business practices and caused me LOTS of hassle.
You forgot to mention Big Thinkers -- one of the best shows on TechTV, IMO. They feature a guest each day, usually a CEO of a large corp. or an inventor, etc and just chat with them. Really, really interesting stuff.
The quality of that capture process is horrid. The cool theater audio gets ruined. And getting a group of friends together to huddle around your screen is a 1-way ticket to the geek table.
Obviously you don't do much movie pirating.:) Most new releases can be found ripped from VHS or via a telicine machine, which ends up being at least VHS quality if not better. Once burned as VCD it can be played through most (new) standard DVD players. In return, you get a nice, VHS+ quality new release on your TV for all to see.
i don't know much about astronomy... but i don't know why it's such a big deal if there's water on another planet. An organism will only survive in it's surroundings, and on earth, it happens to be h2o. If life does exist on another planet it will only exist because it's been able to thrive on it's surroundings... whether it be water, gatoraid, etc.
So are we only looking for other organisms similar to those on the earth? I believe that life exists on all planets.. but we may just be looking for the wrong thing. Alien organisms are thriving on substances uknown to us. Just an idea..
text-e-books would be a great idea. I'm a skimmer and I've always dreamed of being able to CTRL-F and search for "war of 1812" rather than waste time skimming text to try and find what i need.
Giving something like that away with low-cost student computers would be a bad idea. A lot of the major universitys out there block access to ports that these p2p networks run on.. therefor distributing it with student computers would be either redundent or just a good way to get a lot of people pissed off.
I ran across this when trying to get a cgi-bin directory listing.
Unavailable Tripod Directory
Tripod does not allow the automatic listing of directory or subdirectory contents.
who'da thought Tripod would do something right..

Gotcha. I must have read this before anything about "Vice City" was mentioned, because they were only saying Miami. But heh, it makes sense.

wouldn't it be cheaper to pay someone to duplicate technologies in Napster rather than buying the name? There's gotta be other reasons behind this...
so.. the company that was (or still is?) suing Napster has now purchased it. I think it's safe to say that Napster is officially dead.

NOW you can get 4 dreamcasts for the price of 1 gamecube. Incredible!
a new way for my employer to cram me into an even _smaller_ space than I'm already in now.
after work cannibus parties happen all too often around here.
athies mean they dont believe in a higher being. i'd assume "none" means they dont have a religion. ie: confused, undecided
anyone else noticing a trend of recalls on laptop power supplies? Dell had one.. now compaq.
