We also raped the shit out of asia, but there are lots of asian countries that put even north america to shame...
Japan was a very backwards country only 150 years ago, but now they are one of the most important world powers. China and India are both making huge inroads as well. I actually find a lot of people who want to give charity to Africa are almost harboring an attitude of "we are better than these people, so we should give them a piece of the pie". There are leaders in Africa who deny the AIDS epidemic for god sake. They are destroying their own people.
yeah but if you are being investigated and they have enough evidence against you already, having your personal files encrypted is a big sign of guilt. Personally, unless you have something REALLY big to hide, it's not worth wasting all the cpu cycles on encryption. If you really are serious about encryption, then you want something like IBM's corporate laptops with hardware encryption.
Even then, unless you are in some sensitive field, you SHOULDN'T have anything to hide
As far as I know, my g5 is sold as a mac computer...
I am on many mac related mailing lists, and we always refer to windows based computers as PC, and macs as mac.... Wintel is not really appropriate, since AMD has a decent piece of the market
Not true, lots of non-savvy users use apple computers, and they are damn hard to mess up.. Generally apple users are much more wealthy than PC users, so attacking that platform with trojans to steal bank information and what-not would be a goldmine for criminals... But it just doesn't happen because the OS is more solid.
If apple has a monopoly on this kind of memory, or at least a large stake in it, then it means we won't see this kind of technology in competing audio players, ones that have many more useful features such as recording ability and OGG support. OGG is widely used for distributing music on bittorent based sites, and it's annoying to have to convert it to mp3 or aac...
Lets see.. A full PAGE of the article is devoted to getting very basic hardware to function (the NIC and sound card). I mean come on, I can run knoppix linux on my LAPTOP and I get a usable system with no configuration required (even wireless works). Windows is the same thing, you get a completely usable system once it's installed. OS X is the same (although it shouldn't count since apple has much less variation between models compared to the PC world). For hardcore UNIX needs, I don't see why anyone would use SOLARIS over their favorite BSD variation.
Plus KDE is the standard desktop environment used now, not GNOME. GNOME is pretty but barely functional, KDE comes close to the ease of use of the windows GUI.
audio/visual people are still a big market for the g4s... While the g5s are great systems, they are still quite expensive... In the world of audio recording/editing, expandability can be more important than speed... Having room for more than one hard disc, pci soundcards, and lots of ram can be more important than a small form factor (the slow HD on the mini is the real bottleneck for audio/visual work)... So there will always be a market for g4 power macs...
hmm babylon5... One of the best (and original) sci-fi shows ever... NOT ACTION BASED AT ALL (although it had some great action scenes that were ussually quite important to the story)
Battlestar Galactica... Based on an old show and completely different, and a great story and characters and good FX, also very character driven...
Sliders.... In my opinion, a VERY action based show. I mean they slide into a new dimention every episode... At least B5 and the new Battlestar series have some long story arcs going
Agreed, I got an ipod mini with a student discount so the price was VERY reasonable for the size/features/battery life of the device. Other small players pale in comparison.
Public remixes happen all the time. Trent is just one of the first big artists to partake in it. Lots of indie artists release their audio tracks so others can make remixes.
However most people use the standard and well-supported formats of.mid for sequences and wave or aiff files for the audio data so users of all systems can remix their work, and not just apple users who represent 2% of the world. Most really avid musicians use hardware samplers and sequencers anyway and not crash prone computers to make their work.
I have no spyware or viruses on either of my windows systems. I use my system for hobbyist/semi-pro video editing and I am glad I did not buy a g5 because they can only hold 2 internal hard drives. I have 4 250 gig drives in my p4 system and I built it myself with optimum fan placement and have no problems.
Linux is not an option because they have no professional audio visual programs.
I have made some money filming and editing wedding videos and if I had bought an expensive apple system I'd still be paying it off now instead of making a profit from my work. It just doesn't make business sense for me.
It's too bad trent reznor hasn't released an album in 5 years and needs to stoop to being an ad boy for apple products. I remember when he was a talented rock star who could live solely off the momentum of his music. His new album sounds quite weak.
Anything that justifies RFID technology is bad news in my opinion... As much as I would like portable, lightwieght music on chips the evil applications of RFID technology still scare me
This is a windows-centric opinion... Windows needs 512mb to actually get work done, but OS X runs fine with 256mb. Apple designs computers that work fine out of the box with a stock configuration. I have an imac with 256mb and it runs much faster than most PC systems I have used with 512mb ram.
It's like saying a 3ghz P4 is faster than a 2ghz g5, which isn't true. The number is higher but a higher number isn't always faster.
If BSD had been released under GPL, Apple would have never used it and their operating system would have probably would not have been as solid as a result.
OS X is the most popular UNIX based OS EVER, it is a huge achievement for that platform. The GPL licence would have prevented this OS from being made at all.

Wait until you see what a program hard wired to 800 x 600 looks like on your 23 inch dell lcd...
Still the program was quite revolutionary back in the day...

well why did they even make a version for my g5 If it's illegal to run it on non-PCs.

or if you run a mac you can be as stupid as you want and not have any problems
Don't worry I think tigerdirect will do a better job of bringing down your aapl stock tha Spitzer.
It would be a shame if apple copied MIcrosoft's style and UI design, once again.
As a sign of kazakh hospitality, the crew were each given one donkey and a jar of insecticide.
Actually I'm quite happy, I make a good living using windows based computers...
I'm going to go outside now and wash my boxter s.
When I think of future problems that will happen to hardware, Hardware DRM comes to mind.

it's not open-source when the song is released using a proprietary format that only works on 2% of computers worldwide...
Not as bad as OS X, each upgrade to OS X 10 like 10.1, 10.2, 10.3 requires you to repurchase the entire OS, which is over a gig!
Anything that justifies RFID technology is bad news in my opinion... As much as I would like portable, lightwieght music on chips the evil applications of RFID technology still scare me

Well not exactly, my centrino notebook has a 75 watt power supply, for the WHOLE SYSTEM.
A high ghz P4 can use 1.5 x that JUST FOR THE MICROPROCESSOR. The power management on the P4 is just to keep your electricity bill down...
