I find it amazing how Chomsky can be considered a public policy expert on anything with no training in public policy an economics expert with no training in economics and a philosopher with not much background in philosophy. The supply of oil to an advanced country can be a matter of life and death in a cold winter so yes stability isnt just about corporations. Whats even more funny is his awful writing style, it makes pseudo-intellectual rubes think how brilliant he must be that they cant understand him.
Is if amazon, walmart and ebay decided to come up with a common tagging system for shopping searches.
This does not change how web page are displayed only how they are tagged for search engines. Having the top 3 search engines in the world come to a common agreement is not a bad thing. These three search engines have represented 95%+ of the search engine market for the last 5 years.
When 95% of the market decides on a common standard that is THE standard regardless of any hand waving by the "de jure" standards body
In most free markets cheap and good enough eventually overtakes state of the art. Apple fanboys need to realize not everyone shares their priorities and not everyone has $1000 for a laptop.
The Android version of Linux is so popular that Phone manufacturers prefer to pay microsoft to not have to use windows phone.
Microsoft does have an interesting strategy btw: Microsoft does not seem to want to kill linux anymore because they can make easier money just with licensing fees from companies with deep pockets.
It also says something that the phone makers would rather pay the $5-10 per phone than use windows phone 7.
So Google is not saying screw you to open source, its saying "This version shouldnt be inflicted on the open source community because it would do too much damage to our companys reputation." I bet Ubuntu is wishing they had done that with Ubuntu 11.04
If someone had planned the killing of 3000 innocent North Korean civlians, and also supported numerous terrorist acts around the globe and authorized the assassination of American politicians opposed to him and car bombing of americans and attacks on canadian schoolchildren and were hiding in the US and US government didnt do jack diddly about it for 5 years even though there was United Nations sanctions and an interpol warrant. If then the North Koreans came in and capped him without killing any Americans in the process, Id say that person got what they deserved.
Apple users dont want to admit for the price they are paying for their products they could easily be made in the US or at least any asian country with decent human rights (Korea, Taiwan, Japan) or even semi-decent human rights(thailand, malaysia, indonesia) , but apple pockets the profits instead of paying their employees a living wage. Walmart in china treats their employees better.
Even if none of these planets have intelligent life, its still worth taking a look. A habitable world in another star system say 20 years travel away is hardly too far to "know what happened". A world in another star system that can support human life is a "game changer".
Would you rather have them down here carving up the earth, or up there making money in space. Space is big...really big so big that even greedy corporations cant use it up for a very long long long time.
DVD upscaling on blu-ray players over HDMI works amazingly well, so I have no incentive to buy blu-ray discs of movies I already own. I own a blu-ray player bought to replace a broken dvd player and one blu-ray disc.
The problem is not that the US is fascistic the problem is right now the US is too "small d" democratic. Everyone wants a say in every damn thing even if they have no idea what they are talking about. They also want no cuts in any money THEY get from the government, while cutting everyone elses money and no tax increases for their group while not cutting any real spending. Everyone wants to cut "wasteful" spending but noone wants to define what wasteful is except for a few token programs.
Imagine an emergency generator 4 times more efficient than current models...
Yes the military would be very much interested in generators that only require 1/4 as much fuel especially considering the cost transporting fuel to combat areas as would hospitals, the red cross, FEMA.
Actually that metaphor doesnt quite work. Ideologically, GPL is like community toolbox where people can borrow tools but also have to contribute tools and let people know what tools they were using. BSD is like making a toolbox filling it with tools and putting a sign on it "help yourself".
1) When I see a wmv player released for linux and android 2) Internet Explorer for Linux (dont laugh) 3) A fully functional silverlight plug-in for linux that lets me play netflix 4) Windows update being browser neutral 5) Opensourcing DirectX
Its free, it does not require the emails to be any particular format because its installed as a virtual printer.

User plug-ins...buttons where users wanted them....themes..
So if youre on a long drive you can pull in the autopilot car only lane, set course and speed to 70ish turn on the mp3 player and catch some zzz's.
As long as its done in a neutral manner based on whats being sent as opposed to whos sending it.

Imagine mysql database GPU accelerated...
GPU accelerated routers, gpu acceleration of anti-virus software.
The use of gpus to accelerate search engines.

Yep some of them make almost as much as beginning schoolteachers. :)

The McDonalds in Chengdu China has 24 hour delivery.
I saw the McDonalds delivery phone number prominently displayed in McDonalds in Thailand.
KFC also delivers in Asian countries.

Most people with pre-paid phones need voice and text messaging...not data plans.

It was "capture the baby" ;-)
They use plastic baggies filled with ice and pour the coke from the bottle right into it.
That way they can get the deposit right back.
You may have a quarterback that wants to call his own plays.
When a QB sees how a defense is falling into a preprogrammed arrangement he can call an audible.
