    I find it amazing how Chomsky can be considered a public policy expert on anything with no training in public policy an economics expert with no training in economics and a philosopher with not much background in philosophy. The supply of oil to an advanced country can be a matter of life and death in a cold winter
    so yes stability isnt just about corporations. Whats even more funny is his awful writing style, it makes pseudo-intellectual rubes think how brilliant he must be that they cant understand him.

    Is if amazon, walmart and ebay decided to come up with a common tagging system for shopping searches.

    This does not change how web page are displayed only how they are tagged for search engines.
    Having the top 3 search engines in the world come to a common agreement is not a bad thing.
    These three search engines have represented 95%+ of the search engine market for the last 5 years.

    When 95% of the market decides on a common standard that is THE standard regardless of any hand waving
    by the "de jure" standards body

    The Android version of Linux is so popular that Phone manufacturers prefer to pay microsoft to not have to use windows phone.

    Microsoft does have an interesting strategy btw: Microsoft does not seem to want to kill linux anymore because they can make
    easier money just with licensing fees from companies with deep pockets.

    It also says something that the phone makers would rather pay the $5-10 per phone than use windows phone 7.

    Apple users dont want to admit for the price they are paying for their products they could easily be made in the US or at least
    any asian country with decent human rights (Korea, Taiwan, Japan) or even semi-decent human rights(thailand, malaysia, indonesia) , but
    apple pockets the profits instead of paying their employees a living wage. Walmart in china treats their employees better.

    Even if none of these planets have intelligent life, its still worth taking a look. A habitable world in another star system say 20 years travel away is hardly too far to "know what happened". A world in another star system that can support human life is a "game changer".

    I saw the McDonalds delivery phone number prominently displayed in McDonalds in Thailand.

    KFC also delivers in Asian countries.

    DVD upscaling on blu-ray players over HDMI works amazingly well,
    so I have no incentive to buy blu-ray discs of movies I already own.
    I own a blu-ray player bought to replace a broken dvd player and one blu-ray disc.

    The problem is not that the US is fascistic the problem is right now the US is too "small d" democratic. Everyone wants a say in every damn thing even if they have no idea what they are talking about. They also want no cuts in any money THEY get from the government, while cutting everyone elses money and no tax increases for their group while not cutting any real spending. Everyone wants to cut "wasteful" spending but noone wants to define what wasteful is except for a few token programs.

    Yes the military would be very much interested in generators that only require 1/4 as much fuel especially
    considering the cost transporting fuel to combat areas as would hospitals, the red cross, FEMA.

    Actually that metaphor doesnt quite work. Ideologically, GPL is like community toolbox where people can borrow tools but also have to contribute tools and let people know what tools they were using. BSD is like making a toolbox filling it with tools and putting a sign on it "help yourself".
