    If the supreme course declines to hear an appeal or it is not appealed , it does become binding caselaw within the first circuit
    and damn persuasive everywhere else.

    Wrong.

    The US government implemented in 1918 what the US and Canadian Railroads had already agreed to in 1883.
    It was the General Time Convention of 1883 that implemented the time zones , the government followed along 35 years later.

    Thats not a problem of technological vision (if you saw the were using finger slides just like they do with ipad today!)

    The pile of PADDs was a metaphor for a pile of books. Also with cheap easily replicated pads you might actually want each pad to be on a different document.

    Its not as crazy as it sounds. A version of powerpoint that would work with an android phone would be a fantastic application.
    Imagine a scaled down version of Microsoft publisher for android tablets. If I were in charge of Microsoft, I would
    create an entire division for Android mobile apps. Why do they even need windows phone, its reinventing the wheel.
    Microsoft Office is the moneymaker not windows itself. I cant imagine why Microsoft wouldnt create a version
    of Office for Android(with file compatibility with Windows).

    The only problem is that they would probably need a new ceo to figure that out.

    Android 2.2 and has Android market access.

    Its not state of the art and it has a resistive touch screen but it runs the apps I want and I can use it with
    my cheap prepaid sim card.

    If I were Apple id be FAR more worried about the increasingly "cheap and good enough" android phones
    than any crappy iphone knockoff.

    They have been researching digital cameras since the 1970s and have like 1000 patents relating to digital cameras.

    They literally the invented digital still camera and got a patent for it in 1978
    Their patents have been tested in court. However Kodak seems to have no problems licensing its patents. Kodak
    doesnt pursue frivolous or overly broad claims. Kodak actually invented most of the digital camera technology existing today
    and licenses it to everybody.

    Apple tried to claim a patent claim against kodak and got bitchslapped in May.

    The assumption of only 1 lifebearing planet in the universe of hundreds of billions of stars is pretty damn silly. Whether the drake equation is right or wrong, its pretty safe to say something is out there. cryptozoology seems like flaky science until they find something like the Okapi or the Giant Squid then its no longer cryptozoology its just zoology.

    Is tv worse than it was in the 80s? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. There were some great shows on in the 80s
    but there was lots and lots of crap on in the 80s. Manimal, Dynasty. If you go back and actually watch
    shows from the 1980s they are unintentionally hilarious. There are many shows from the 1980s that do not age well.

    The problem with cable video on demand is that price should have dropped continously but it hasnt. Its now cheaper
    to buy dvds than to watch VOD, and the internet has gotten to the point of where its cheap(or free) and good enough.
    While dropping porn demand is one problem for cable giants its just the symptom of the fact that their services(porn and otherwise)
    arent worth what they are charging.

    Cable tv customers want their service to be a big fat pipe, and the problem is most of what the customers get on their
    cable tv packages are not what they want to watch. The future of tv is Roku where people buy their own tv box and pick their own channels.

    Imagine "Lego Factory" a 3d printer designed to print low volume customized and/or specialized lego parts.

    Imagine creating your own set of 100 lego blocks with any color you can imagine.

    Of course if lego doesnt want to do that...someone else will...especially since the shape of the lego brick
    is no longer legally protected as a trademark.

    Constellation was a joke created primarily as space industry welfare and Obama was right to end it.

    Spacex has done more in 3 years in getting a new rocket system off the ground than NASA did in 10 years
    at 1/10 the cost. I have every reason to believe that the Falcon Heavy demo flight will launch next year and dragon
    capsule will be ready on time to supply the space station.

    Obama has done nothing but scrap unrealistic uberexpensive programs and focus on what is achieveable with what we actually
    have which is refreshing and can actually work.

    Microsoft is now a parasite not a predator when it comes to linux and android. The most successful parasites
    are the ones the host barely notices($5 per phone...grumble,grumble now here leave me alone). Apple on the other
    hand is trying to use its patents to exterminate its competitors.

    The author of the article clearly has no background in history and is just making stuff up.
    In London by 1736, the streets were lit all night long.
    Gas and oil lamps were common in homes by the time the electric light was introduced. Oil Lamps
    had been around for 1000s of years. Then you also had these things called candles.
    There was moral panic about the safety of the electric wires but that has nothing to do with the authors argument

    spoke about it correctly referenced the stuart and tudor eras when talking about history,
    talked about her book collection and has come out in favor of gay marriage.

    She may not be a geek in the slashdot tradition but shes geek-friendly and since there is not
    an overabundance of geek friendly smart hot girls I say cut her some slack.
