I have one of these Microsoft keyboards and it lets me change any button on the keyboard to any program I want. So if I press the button for my web browser it will launch Firefox and if I hit the mail button it will launch Thunderbird.
Users are not going to be smart enough to run Firefox and scan for spyware regularly. This stuff should be blocked at the proxy level. Doing it this way will allow for the spyware sites not to be able to communicate and therefor make it harder to install a lot of the spyware out there. If any spyware does get installed this will make it so it can't phone home and give away all your browsing habits. This can also save a considerable amount of bandwidth if done on a large scale.
Windows will always be insecure. I have tried its firewall and it feels very basic. If you want more protection you should buy a linksys router with a built in firewall that won't hinder your computers performance or bug you while you open your e-mail program. With a hardware solution you will not be as vulnerable as if you were using Windows but there are a few problems.
In the Summer 2004 issue of 2600 Magazine there is an article on lock picking with less common types of picks. They talk about how to pick a lock with a pen, bobbe pin, sciccors, and everyones favorite the paperclip.
The easiest way to speed up Windows would be to keep it free of spyware and viruses. Almost every computer I go on is crippled because it is so bogged down with needless crap. I run Windows as my main operating system and all it takes is a little effort to get it running up to spead once it is free of viruses and spyware.
In Windows XP you can get things running faster by right clicking on my computer going to properties and clicking on the advanced tab to go to performance settings. From here you can make things run for best appearance or best performance. There are a lot of things I have disabled such as the normal Windows XP start menu and almost every built in animation and fading technique built into Windows XP.
Another good way to speed things up is to move the cache for programs to a RAM-Drive. This will keep things running fast by using the RAM as opposed to the hard drive and it will delete everything without a trace if you are paranoid that the feds are after you. I wrote a RAM-Drive program a while ago but it only works on Windows 9x. If you want to download the program it is available at http://home.comcast.net/%7Esessions9/RAM-Drive.htm l or you can search for it on Planet Source Code.
I bought a dreamcast about a year ago to run my games. It makes a great emulator. I have tons of NES, SNES, and GB games on it. In fact I only have one actual dreamcast game. The Xbox can be modded to do this sort of thing also but when it is priced at 150 dollars and there is a 30 dollar alternative the dreamcast is a much better system for emulation purposes. I also have it set up to play VCDs as well as being able to use it as an MP3 player.
I am not thrilled about my expensive ATI card either.
As for the performance the X800-XT has all the pipelines enabled and it performs about the same as the 6800GT.
For some reason I don't see the price on the 6800 going down. ATI and Nvidia seem to have a monopoly on graphics cards at the current time. Neither of them are planning on releasing any new cards soon and therefore they can keep the prices high and force consumers to buy the expensive cards. The laws of supply and demand are not in favor of consumers since more people are getting Doom III and there is an increasing demand for new graphics card.
Didn't an ATI employee leak the demo for Doom III? If so then this could explain why the game runs so much better on Nvidia cards. If ATI wants to stay in the market for cards aimed at running Doom III then they need to start releases new drivers soon.
That is why you wear ANSI 87.1 rated goggles. They give you a full seal around your eyes and they can withstand a shot from point blank range even with a heavily upgraded gun.
Have you ever considered airsoft as an alternative? The guns are expensive but they should still be cheaper then getting realistic laser tag gear and a lot more fun. Airsoft uses air to launch small 6mm plastic BBs and they are designed to look like the real thing. Most guns that are sold in stores like Walmart are very cheaply made and not worth your money. I would recommend getting an AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) from Asia (airsoftshop.com, wgcshop.com) but if you prefer to buy from the US I would recommend combatdepot.com. Airsoft can be dangerous so if you play make sure you are wearing proper eye protection (at least ANSI 87.1). Also be sure to inform any neighbors you have as well as the police that you are having an airsoft game. You do not want the police comming to your house and opening fire on everyone they see.
I have always thought of book prices as fairly cheap. Technical manuals on the otherhand tend to be a little bit more expensive. If you don't mind reading a book that has already been read then I would recommend eBay. I don't see what people have against this, the books are half the price and as long as the words are still legible and there aren't any pages missing isn't that just as good?
How dangerous Mozilla can be. Everyone should be listening to Microsoft and use a secure browser such as Internet Explorer that isn't littered with security vulnerabilities.
I accidentily mistoke my primary hard drive for my secondary. I took the wrong hard drive out of the computer and reformated the one with the data I needed on it.
If you went from Sydney to Australia I would say it was a very short day.
He really should have gotten credit as that was a correct response.

Yes it does. At least on my D-Link router it comes enabled by default with a basic firewall but it can be configured to get more sophisticated.

Did anyone notice that installing SP2 on a pirated copy by default enables something called "Warez File Server" in the firewall settings.

How about price? Let me know when you can get a 3 Ghz system running with TV-Out for less then 30 bucks.

We really don't know how Doom III perfomrms on the low end cards as there have not been any benchmarks done on any of the lower end graphics cards.

Unfortunetly it is already to late for me. All I have left is the organs I need to live and my 6800 Ultra.
Maybe if you disable everything and run at 320X240 resolution
I heard that Id is going to make a Linux version so you won't have to boot into Windows all the time

I tried the same thing but I could only afford to do it in pennies.
I don't trust a site where it has over 70 user reviews from a game that isn't out yet.
