Most of your answers seem to be non-answers. I want a definitive statement regarding MS's stance on linux as a competitor.
Bill:
MS is committed to providing straight answers to the community. I know lots of people here in the linux lab that are enthralled with developing technologies that can provide you the answers you need in a timely manner. I've never heard anyone around here ever say "competition," ever! MS is great. Next question.
To say that Windows was a "Pioneering" effort is like saying Columbus "Discovered" America, when there were already people living here.
Give me a break. Why do people insist on re-writing history?
What most people don't know (because of said flawed history) is that Columbus never made land fall on Continental North America in those "historic voyages". Now I'm not sure if your comment was ironic or insightful. or both.
It's basically a one button mouse that adapts to the multi-button OS. You can't click both at once? Sure, 99.99% of the time, not a big deal. But I know of at least a couple of games (yes on the mac even) that require multi-clicking. Zooming camera control in Black & White anyone?
What happens when I want to set my right click to Expose? Grab (left), drag, Expose (right), drop... Especially when there's really not all that many "buttons" there to begin with. I guess I'll stick with my logitech.
When on earth did "This object let me do it" become a standard of legality?!
Oh, are we playing "let's cite only examples that make my point"? Let me try! When was the last time you saw a ticket machine at the rail station have a sign granting you permission to put money in to receive a ticket to ride the train? (random asinine emphasis added for extra points) How on earth can anyone possibly think it is okay to use this machine when there is no posted permission?! And that pay phone? And that Automatic External Defibrillator? Criminals! Get away from those publicly accessible non-permission-granting machines!
Oh, wait. You said the WAP automatically granted you permission? Nevermind.
A HD DVD standard only offers the advantage of better picture.
Um... how about the fact that you can fit an entire season of a TV show on a single disc?
And now for some totally inaccurate off-the-cuff math...
1 Season of TV on DVD:
6 DVDs @ $3/disc to print/package/ship; MSRP $23; profit = $5.
or...
1 Blu-Ray Disc @ $8 to print/package/ship; MSRP $30; profit = $22.
Honestly, you know that consumers will expect the price inflation and think that $30 is still an awesome deal for a TV season. It makes sense for the manufacturers on a sheer numbers, and it makes sense for the consumers for convenience. And with the rate that they are necromancing all the old crap onto DVD, you'd think that they'd have content for years.
My girlfriend plays M:TG with me, holds a MEng in EECS (course 6), and owns more console games/systems than I do. Seriously. Who's the genius now?;)
And, by the way, I've always seen the manifesto as a lame cop-out for nerds who weren't smart enough to overcome social adversity. I would rather use my brains to win than to cry and make excuses in some lame manifesto.

Quartz Extreme will work on these iBooks. That needs a 16Mb or greater AGP graphics adaptor, which the iBooks and Mac minis have. You're thinking of Core Image/Core Video.
I'm thinking of Quartz 2D Extreme. Which, has yet to see itself enabled by default. Buggy, buggy.
"Most of this data is already being collected about you anyway," Eagle said. "If you carry around a cell phone, we can look at how often you are home on a specific week."
But without a program on their cell phone to record data, people cannot get at that information, since cell-phone providers claim it as proprietary.
"The only way that data can be accessed is if the government wants it to use it against me in a court of law," Eagle said.
And, since they just extended the "Patriot" Act another decade... Not having the user-accessible data leaves you at the mercy of a corrupt government. How are you supposed to counter claims against you when you, yourself do not have the data? Eagle raises a good point. We don't have the information. Enabling it for the end user may make it more widespread and available, but that also means more available to the user himself.
You get a phonebill with all your calls, right? And I'm sure most of you have called or investigated at least one of the numbers listed on the bill for whatever reason at some point in your usage history. I'm not saying you'll ever have to investigate your own whereabouts, but one day you might need to when the government comes accusing you of associating with "terrorists" because you share the same commuter train.
Final point: Just because you don't have access to the data, doesn't mean somebody else does. This is enabling technology; take your "Big Brother" FUD and shove it.
I don't care about ABI, I still want Intel.

Regardless of whether PPC will still be supported in the life of the machine, I still want and will wait for an intel mac laptop. With all the noise about compatibility and developer support nobody likes to mention the simple fact that an intel based mac laptop would run significantly longer/cooler and be a lot more powerful than the current crop of G4 based laptops. (167MHz system bus. Seriously! 167MHz?!) Hell, Apple doesn't even need to put in a lot of R&D to get the gain. The G4 in the laptop is so antiquated at this point that any new intel mac laptop (even an older pentium M) would kick the living crap out of a G4.
What's the average battery time for a powerbook last time I checked? Maybe 3.5 hours? How about a Pentium M centrino? >6 hours; for better performance no less! This is why I will not buy a PPC iBook.
Any idea if Leopard (10.5) will support PPC? Steve said it'll be the intel target OS right... And while the API is supposedly finalized, how much do you want to bet that when Leopard comes out in 2 years it'll have at least a few features not available in Tiger? If developers at that point target Leopard like ADC tells them to...
My dead what???
Damn you EA! DAAAAAAMMMMMN YOU!!!!!
Spock: Captain, it appears there's a penguin on the main viewer.
Kirk: What's... it... doing there?
Chekov: Standin'!
Bones: l can see that!
Scotty: 'ello! Well, it's just after twenty hundred hours, and time for the penguin on top of your main viewer to explode.
*KABOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM*
Bones: How did he know that was going to happen?
Spock: It was an inspired guess.
X) Can you give me a straight answer?

step 3)Get sued by MS
step 4)Profit!
Does anyone else think that that new ITMS Japan icon looks like the eyeball of Satan?

The user catalog is a perl database and we need to localize for how many countries? Then, today is a good day to die!
That is obviously beside the point. Gross.
