Actually the chinese just don't like using stuff developed by other countries period. Look at SS7. There are no royalties for IPv6 or IPv4. There's pretty much zero reason to develop your own IP protocol except NIH.

Winning Eleven 7 is a work of soccer video game genius for sure. There are definitely some areas where FIFA represents. Some of the penalty shooting stuff is a little better. But man, I can't get enough of WE7.

How is it cheating to use a save feature that the game developer put in the game? Unlimited saves or save points like Sly Cooper (unlimited but only at certain places, the thing takes a snapshot whenever you're near it) are the way of the future. Crap like the monstrosity that is the oddworld series is dead. I refuse to play a game which supports try and die. If I have to run through the whole fucking level and redo everything every time I die that game can kiss my ass (you hear that oddworld).

I disagree, project managers, producers and/or program managers are crucial to managing a large scale development project. The reason you have crap that isn't what the customers wanted is because of shitty communication. The bugginess is because of shit testing and development practices. Definitely developments fault. And the budgetary woes are a process issue.

I think the quotes from Gibson show a surprising lack of understanding of the depth of the IP. All the stuff they want - foolproof delivery and ad-hoc networks are there. They're just not at the IP level. Basically they're either going with the telephone model of 1 wire - 1 phone or they're going packet switched with reliable transport on top.
Here's a classic example. David Perry hyped the shit out of himself and his bullshit Messiah technology. At least Rubins made some games that are good. Perry has made dogshit like the Matrix. Additionally he's made a living off of treating his people like shit. The stars in games are the games themselves. The developers are like the bazillion grips, 2nd assistant ADs and random other people that are listed in the credits. If you're a producer or publisher who wants a game you look at that list and ring those people. Everyone else should just buy the game and show their love with their cold hard cash (especially if the developer gives out royalties).
